re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

We had pogs in the 90s, but I don't really miss them.

i had some star wars pogs..........:lecture

no idea where they are now............damn.............they are probably worth there weight in.........um......um.........um........pogs.............:yess:

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Oh yeah man, I think just about everything had a card series in the 80's. And by that time everyone knew cards could be valuable so they're are a ton of them and all virtually worthless :lol

But I remember cards from Alf, California Raisins, Robocop, '89 Batman, The Iraq War, etc. etc. etc. :lol

:horror

I must have been too busy collecting baseball cards. All the fun I missed. :(

I miss trading cards from the 80s. Nothing beats opening those wax packs and chewing on that sheet of "gum" while looking over the checklist to see if you got some new cards. :rock

:rock

We always bought our cards from a cigar shop, so we ended up with smokey flavored gum. :yess::lol

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

:lol :lol I can still remember the taste (or lack) of that ****ty gum, and how itwould shatter when bit it. Not to mention how it tended to damage the card it was underneath :lol

I remember getting excited when I would get a checklist. :lol

Yeah, checklists were cool... gave you a nice way to work through the set :lol Another one I remember really liking when I was a kid was the Jaws 3D set. The cards came with cheap-o red and blue 3D glasses and each card had a 3D picture on it... very cool stuff to a kid in the 80's :rock :rock :rock

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

I thought checklists were cool, but I don't know why. I knew I had no control over which cards I'd get in a pack, so I never had any ambitions of getting them all.

I was much more into sticker books. Especially the gold/silver foil edged ones. Awesome opening a pack of cards and getting one of those. I wonder if I ever completed one. I recall having higher hopes on that count.

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Special cards were always a pain... although sometimes they had a pattern of how they were packed in.

I remember a DC line with special holographic cards. If you were able to open the pack the top 4 packs always had a holographic card then a few more random ones also did. So you were always able to get 4 guaranteed if you happened to see the boxes first.

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

For some reason, it was easy to find those stickers. I never feared not being able to get them.

I think I may be recollecting wrong. Did baseball stickers come in their own packs, or were they card pack-ins?

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Not sure about that... I don't recall getting stickers in packs of Topps or Fleer Baseball cards back in the day. But when it came to movies it seemed like there was usually some kind of secondary item either stickers, or some kind of bonus cards.

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Fleer seemed to give away stickers for a couple of the baseball sets. Loved getting my Cards and Cubs stickers! :lol

I think Topps stuck to gum and Donruss had the puzzles, which were freaking awesome, btw! Still have my Stan the Man puzzle!

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Summer of 1983, Topps baseball stickers were the only thing as important to me than Return of the Jedi. Never bothered with any kind of card after that.

I wonder if I can find that old sticker book. The idea that it might no longer exist is making me sad.

I'm gonna have to dig out my Marvel characters sticker book. I completed the first one, part of the second, and I think I have the third edition without a single sticker in it. Not the same as you guys' cards and stickers, but I enjoyed collecting those Marvel character stickers.

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Strangely I never collected the SW card sets... I think largely due to me being a bit too young (born in '78). Although both my brother and mother collected them and I think had full sets... or close to it.

You are correct...I should have clarified my post. I meant in the card packs. :(

They still make the books and stickers, if you can believe that! Bought a couple of books and stickers for my nephews last year!

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Batty collected them in high school. Cause he's old. Really old.

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

He was collecting back when they had "negro leagues" :lol

And he was okay with it, since not only is he old... but crazy racists :lecture

:lol:lol:lol

I liked these pop-up figures from Leaf/Donruss. I don't think they lasted long, however.
After looking at ebay, it doesn't look like they're worth the paper they're printed on, either. :lol

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Man hardly any cards from that period and after are... I think like the first couple series of Garbage Pail Kids command a high price, but the rest are pretty worthless.

I bought sealed box of "Dinosaurs Attack" (an awesome set btw) and paid more for shipping than the box of cards :lol

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."
