re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

I just don't understand how to find a job now. I've been unemployed twice in my years. First time was before the internet was huge and you had to walk in the location. Second time was when the internet was just hitting and everyone used Monster.com. Now it's just willy nilly with some people having their own sites, some use LinkedIn, some want walk-ins. Just confusing.

You need to use it all.

Monster, career builder, craigs list, LinkedIn.

I did one recently that wanted a pre-interview video sent with the resume in order to be considered.

Work with a head hunter for your industry.

You need to exhaust all avenues these days and use all resources. Don't count on any one.

Check with VASith. He's currently in the process.

I've always gotten mine by dropping off an application for the job, and then popping in a week or so later to ask if they've had a chance to review it. Showed I was interested in the job, as well as it usually resulted in an interview on the spot. Meaning if they hadn't look at my application yet, they would go grab it, and then pull me in and interview my as they reviewed it. Got me a job both times I did that. Granted, one was just at a grocery store (my first job) but still.

Thanks for that. Anyone else on LinkedIn?

Say what? Was this for porn? :wink1:

I don't think I'd do a video for an interview. That is just strange.

The approach has changed.

You need to be all over.

Your local papers online as well.

Post on craigs list saying you are looking for a position.

Really find a headhunter for your industry and go through them. They will fight for the better wages for you as their percentage will be better and they have done most of the footwork covering all these areas for you to keep their finger on the pulse.

Shropt

Send resumes to companies you want to work for even if they don't have ads posted. That's how I found my potential new job. Well, new job..pretty much decided to take it.

Windmill?

Oh yeah. Let me do a test video and I'll PM it to you all. :p

Thanks guys. Seems like a good opportunity with same hours and a bit more money. One more interview tomorrow but I've pretty much made up my mind.

You are actually my inspiration. You are the first person in a while I've heard to look for a job and not only find something but have a choice. Congrats!

Congrats Eric ! I am very happy it turned around for you so quickly !

Just watched Wrath of Khan. How come there are no decent Trek figures? I have to admit that I like even the crappy Trek movies. Kirk, Bones and Spock singing Row, Row, Row Your Boat? Yeah, it got me.

Nanjin is currentlhy offereing some very nice high end 1/6 figures... I have the Spock and aside from the price I couldn't be happier with him. Bones is out now and Kirk is coming soon. But they're $200+ each so you're paying HT prices.

I remember i was going to get the set originally but when it was time, I had to put the funds elsewhere.

Do you not feel they are quality?
