But it's also more of a arty film. Where Max is a full on popcorn flick. Movies like that normally don't even get the nod. Getting this Oscar nod can only be surpassed by a win. Breaking the mold of the stereotypical Oscar film. Which to me.. The Revenant is.

That's what the MTV Movie Awards are for :lol

103M first weekend ... so it was popular ... ;)

Still shouldn't have won or swept the Awards

****ing cancer!

Bummer about Alan Rickman... great actor and he was perfect as Snape.

So this is where the grown ups talk about Star Wars on this site. Don't know why I wasted my time in the Movies/TV section. furystorm, damn, 11 times. The rewatchability of this movie is unreal. I literally saw it a sixth time last night and am ready for another go.

Yeah, I've really enjoyed seeing it so many times. I feel like I've got at least a 7th viewing in me.

I noticed 3PO's gold arm at the end around the third or fourth viewing. :yess:

He makes a comment somewhere in the movie about needing to get his gold arm back. Maybe when R2 wakes up?

C'mon Waller, what's with the holding out on me :huh I had not noticed that :lol

Was his arm still red during the final map sequence as well, or was it only in his final scene that it changed?

Yes, he makes the comment, but I wouldn't have thought he'd do it immediately! I mean, there must have been a reason he wasn't using the gold arm (ie, it needed repairs). It kinda seems like a stupid thing to even put in the plot! Why even have the red arm?!?!?!? It literally serves no purpose! Other than to make collector's buy a new action figure...

Alan Rickman gone at 69. What a week.
So sad... He was a great actor! Besides Die Hard, Galaxy Quest is one of my faves... I could go either way on Harry Putter. Not a huge fan. They were just OK... I quit after part 5, which bored me...

Wasn't that BB-8 who asked about his arm after saying hello to Han?
Clearly you don't speak droid. BB-8 was asking C-3PO about his sexual orientation...

I'm sure I told you guys this in Chicago?!
Not to me!

5 Oscar noms for Star Wars:

Editing
Original Score (John Williams)
Sound Mixing
Sound Editing
Visual Effects
I normally would say it would win Score, but... tough competition. I will say... Visual Effects and Sound Mixing will be its only wins. It will get 2 of the 5...

I'm torn on score because that Hateful Eight score is so good.
Yep, this! :lecture Morricone and Williams are both old... So that's a tough choice for voters...

Most of them are against Mad Max, which is a superb film too in my opinion. So conflicted!! I'm glad I'm not a voter. :lol :lol
Mad Max isn't gonna which much. Maybe 2 at most. But I think I'll go with George Miller for director. It should win that one...

I think either way, those of us that love both films (which I believe is the majority of the cantina) will be happy at the end of the day during Oscar night. :)
Why, is there a group orgy planned? I hope someone remembers to invite some chicks this time... :monkey1 Glad I skipped the sausage fest...

I hope so.

I would love to see Mad Max steal the best picture and director away !

Finally a POPULAR movie would win ! Can you imagine ? :panic:
Not. Gonna. Happen. No way in HELL that Mad Max wins Best Picture...

I have no desire to see The Revenant whatsoever. The Revenant is Irrelevant to me. I only saw 3 of the 8 Best Picture nominees this year. I plan to see a few more, if I can...

I can't believe Rickman is gone. That one is really sad. **** Cancer.

This has to be Leo's best chance at an Oscar. If he doesn't get it here it isn't going to happen :lol

C'mon Waller, what's with the holding out on me :huh I had not noticed that :lol

Maybe I didn't notice it until seeing it twice in one day. Not sure. But it seemed so random that it changed for the last shot. :lol

You're dead to me!

Why did I invite you to Harry Potter land with me, kenben?!?!?!?!?

No, just something good like Lost In Translation.

I *adore* Lost in Translation. In a perfect world FOTR would have won Best Picture in 2001 and then Lost in Translation would have gotten it in 2003.

Regarding these current awards I'm glad George Miller and Fury Road are getting kudos but I really think Ex Machina and TFA should have gotten Best Picture nominations over FR. I haven't seen The Revenant but my gut tells me it will probably win.

Hopefully Ex Mac gets Visual Effects and Screenplay and TFA wins for Score and Editing.

1.

2. I havn't learned BB-8 yet.

3. I'm worried Mad Max will take all the tech awards and Star Wars ends up going 0 for 5 :(

4. There's only one sensible solution, then. A tie :lecture

5. I've only seen Bridge Of Spies, Mad Max and The Martian. Seeing The Revenant soon and probably won't see the others until i get them on blu-ray.

Can i come?

I would have been cool with that. Now i wanna watch Lost In Translation again :lol

The Hateful Eight should have been nominated and not Bridge Of Spies. And i haven't seen it yet but i think maybe Carol should have been nominated as well. My monies on The Revenant as well. Why up the nominations list to 10 if you only select 8 or 9? Pick that extra film or two :lol

Still need to see Ex Machina. It's in my unwatched pile.

No way in HELL that Mad Max wins Best Picture...

It will be VERY unlikely for Fury Road to win Best Picture considering it didn't get a nomination for Best Screenplay as well. That's almost unheard of. In fact the last Best Picture nominee to NOT get a screenplay nomination (whether it be Original or Adapted) was Titanic 19 years ago. Sure Titanic did indeed win but still.

I really hope that TFA wins something just so that it can be forever known as "The Academy Award winning Star Wars The Force Awakens." :)
