Sooooooooo I was offered a huge promotion today. My boss quit, and he selected me as his replacement. I think I'm gonna turn it down... I don't think the raise will be worth it. I didn't get an exact figure, but he told me that when he was promoted (from the same position I'm currently at) he got an 8% increase to take the manager role. That's too low, IMO. I'd be working a LOT harder. Plus I'm about to get 2-3% anyway from our annual raise. I suppose I should listen to the offer, but I just think I'd regret taking it... But either way, I'm gonna be working harder for a while, since we'll be short-staffed. We already were, and this will just make it worse...

Negotiate! Don't take the promotion in lieu of the raise. They want you? Tell them you want both. The COL bump should be yours with the promotion on top. Strike now!
