I just did the numbers on doing a run of loose AFA Ewoks and it would actually be cheaper to just buy them carded. That baffles me.

AFA auctions can be had cheaper than AFA Buy It Nows for the most part.

AFA grading is $25 or more a figure, so you have to factor that into the price.

From researching the submission process I know the grading isn't cheap. And I even checked the completed auctions and it's usually still cheaper to go the carded route. Honestly it's fine by me as I'd choose a beater card over an acrylic case any day of the week.
