What you're getting into is an issue of familiarity. I don't want to sound like a snob, but if you know what you're doing, viruses and crashes can be minimalized, and in regards to said crashes and hardware failures, consoles aren't exactly immune to such issues nowadays. And heck, digital distribution systems on consoles (PSN, XBL) make the news for being hacked far more often than their pc counterparts as of late (Steam, GoG, Amazon DD).
Me personally I don't want to to take the time to "know what I'm doing". I want to be able to put the disc in and play the game. Damn you Metal Gear on PS3!
