What you're getting into is an issue of familiarity. I don't want to sound like a snob, but if you know what you're doing, viruses and crashes can be minimalized, and in regards to said crashes and hardware failures, consoles aren't exactly immune to such issues nowadays. And heck, digital distribution systems on consoles (PSN, XBL) make the news for being hacked far more often than their pc counterparts as of late (Steam, GoG, Amazon DD).

Me personally I don't want to to take the time to "know what I'm doing". I want to be able to put the disc in and play the game. Damn you Metal Gear on PS3! :rotfl

Lousy article. The author didn't even address the number one obstacle to PC gaming: piracy.

Until a solution to piracy is found, developers will continue to view consoles as being more lucrative. And until the status quo changes, PC gamers can continue to expect to have to play "dumbed down" console ports or in the alternative, wait 2 years for the PC version to arrive.

The article is clearly written as a result of all the positive hype surrounding BF3 and Skyrim.

Every Tom ____ or Harry on the street knows PC graphics/tech will always be superior to consoles.

:lecture Lol....stupid console installs. :(

Good points with the piracy. And yeah the computers will always have cutting edge graphics. There's video cards out there that cost more than a PS3 itself does.

I'm happy with the way things are now. There'll always be PC gaming, but I really don't see it being anything more than a niche market.

While you only paid $1200 for a gaming PC, that price is still way more than double of what it would cost for a new X-Box or PS3. Consoles remain the cheaper alternative, and are operational right out of the box. For PCs, there are just too many things to consider and so, so, so many things that can go wrong at any time. Viruses, blue screen errors, Windows crashes, hardware failures, etc. Personally, I'd just want to play my games, instead of always worrying that something might go wrong :lol.

PCs are good for RPGs like Skyrim and Dragon Age - those games were created for a keyboard in mind. But, for everything else, owning a gaming PC just doesn't seem worth the time, effort, or the money for that matter.

Windows 7 has kind of changed things. And believe me, I was just as skeptical getting back into PC's after so many years. But I was told that Windows 7 was more stable, and they where right, I hardly ever have any problems with my OS, or PC all together. I actually built my rig, and it doesn't take a major in Computer Science to do it. :lol All you need do is some research with google and on YouTube. And reading the instruction manuals for each component.

But yeah, everything is pretty straight forward as far as the build goes, and with these newer OS's, the install and driver issues are pretty much non existent, especially Windows 7. Windows Update takes care of pretty much all your drivers for you. It also tells you what software is bad for YOUR system. Because every one's system is not the same. You may have a components and drivers that are not compatible or that are unstable with combined with one another. And most people download drivers manually from the manufactures website. It's not really a good idea to use the disc because the drivers on that disc are most always not up to date.

But I do understand the whole thing with wanting to just plug in and play. It does make things a lot easier. :lol I guess I'm partly into it more because I really like to figure things out and put things together. It's fun! :)

Youre dreaming if you think people will stop buying consoles and switch to pc. Thats like saying arcades will take over consoles too

I like that there are consoles. Gives somewhere for all COD/Halo 12-year-olds to play. :lol

All that stuff is good and all but it will be outdated in 2months.

That why i never liked PC gaming. As soon as you got all specked out a new game releases and you have to upgrade to unlock its full potential.
The best games are console exclusive and its alot cheaper.
Also the controls suck unless it a FPS imo

This is not true. You must being holding back on spending the extra cash to make your rig future proof. My mother board in my rig can take 3 graphics cards, 24gb of triple channel RAM and a 6 core processor, which I only have a quad core, 8gb duo channel RAM and one 560 Ti. Most games barley use 2 cores, one decent graphics card and no more than 6gb of ram as of now, and that's being able to play all games on ultra high settings. Some of you would think this is overkill considering you're playing on medium settings set by the consoles capabilities. So yeah, I think I'm set for at least a couple of years before all I would need do is a add another graphics card in SLI mode and I'll be fine. These newer motherboards, if you plan ahead and you spend the money can set you up for quite some time.

Most of my components have more than a 3 year manufactures warranty, with some of my components have extended warranties that i purchased. And lets not forget that they are all quality parts. You get what you pay for.

Also, remember price performance. As newer tech comes out older tech comes down in price. My graphics card was retailed at $299 when it first came out, in two years when I decide to add one or more cards to my rig, it will be far far less.

As far as the controls go, to each his own.

I think next gen consoles will be completely different from what people are expecting. There is talk of being able to play xbox 360 games on the PC, as well as the announcement of a Connect device coming to the PC as well. There is even talk of one major console manufacturer bowing out of the console war entirely.

i bought a new laptop just to play the old republic since my old one was really old and it was time to upgrade anyway. these are the specs

Memory Type: DDR3
Memory Slots (Total): 4
Total Memory Size: 6GB
Memory Slots (Available): 2
Maximum Memory Supported: 16GB
Memory Configuration: 4GB + 2GB
Processor Class: Core i7
Processor Brand: Intel
Processor Type: Quad-Core
Processor Speed: 2.2GHz
Operating Systems: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
Capacity: 750GB
Hard Drive Speed: 5400 RPM
Graphics Description: Dedicated Graphics
GPU/VPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6650M
Video Memory: 2GB VRAM

but honestly if the old republic was somehow available on the console i would not have gotten this laptop.

Consoles will never give you hardware with the specs to play a game like TOR the way it's supposed to be played. And then there's the whole keyboard and mouse issue.. Now, they could very well get into cloud gaming in the next gen. Could be intersting.

I would like to see more details on that software sales #. I have a feeling they include the monthly fee included to play a game. Since those fees go to the software maker they could be considered software sales where Xbox live wouldnt either PSN plus.

You look at sales of Battlefield for sales through Oct 29th
Xbox 360: 2.2 million
PlayStation 3: 1.5 million
PC: 500,000

Thats a lot of money to be made up for the PC.

Why buy a ____ty computer + console when you can use that same cash to buy an awesome computer?

And for the Xbox people here, you wouldn't have to pay those bull____ Live fees and deal with annoying ____ing brats online (there are brats online everywhere, but it's ridiculous on Live). Only thing that makes me nerd rage more is Apple.

Even if it gets outdated, it's still more powerful than consoles which remain static for years. You can still play the latest games.

And no, a gaming computer that can outperform consoles does not cost over a $1000. Like proven time and time again, you can spend just under $700 for one.

Yup and PCs give 30+ year olds who play warcraft and Star Wars:OR a place where they can ignore their lives/wives/ and kids. :lol:lol:lol You know... those losers.

I'll stick with Xbox thanks.

...and how many hours have you put into Skyrim? :lol

I'd like to try out like COD4 on the PC just to see if I could even adapt to the mouse/keyboard controls. I'll have to see if my older laptop could handle it.

It's actually easier with the Keyboard and mouse IMO. It's weird at first but you get use to it. I find that my aim is far more precise with the mouse.

I remember playing Fallout 3 on the Xbox 360 with the controller and then switching over to the PC, holy hell was it easier to play and the ingame combat with the keyboard and mouse was superbly better.

Oh, that and I didn't have that constant jerk in the graphics anymore. God I hate lag. :lol

The only thing consoles are good for are 3rd person games in my opinion (Resident Evil, Uncharted, GTA, RDR, Mass Effect) except for 3rd person click games (like Diablo).
