The good thing is, A) HT Style heads are better material and final effect I think, B) we can probably expect it to be the same for any new body figure heads, which bodes well for how Clone Wars Obi-Wan and Indiana Jones will turn out. Too bad GTG won't get the same.

I think it varies on the human HT figures. Jack V1 was too dark, Swann was better, and Will came out fine. So I think its as much hit and miss as the way SS does it. These came out ok but I wouldn't expect this for Obi-Wan or Indy.

I do, I think the material lends itself to the 2 joint neck design. I'd be more surprised if Obi-Wan and Indy weren't just like this.

I think these guys looking like this has more to do with HT helping make the figures. Thats I assume partially anyways it say Hot Toys on the box. SS made the Obi-Wan figure and Indy figures without as much help from HT. I'd be surprised and honestly I hope they stay using the SS method. Obi-Wan would look quite odd among the other SW figures.

I finally took this guys out of their boxes last night,
they are amazing!!
In my opinion, this ARE SS figures of the year!!
The detail is amazing, the clothes, the accessories, everything is awesome.
Of course there's a few details here and there that everybody has mantioned, but overall, excellent work SS!!!

I hope this revitalizes the LOTR line and they bring us Merry and Pip next!!
And then bring on the baddies, Saruman, Ringwraith, Uruk Hai, etc!!

So... do we reckon that these are the only versions of Sam n Frodo that we will need? By that I mean with all the accessories these guys come with... it looks they're good to represent the characters for all three movies.

There are a number of variations that they could do (in the orc armor, a weathered version, etc.) but given how this line is going I would be shocked if these weren't the only the versions we're going to get.

Ya at this stage, buying extras and customizing them is your best bet. Far too many first versions to be done before hitting variants and in a line this slow, it'd be a major disservice to customers if they started variants before really expanding. It's not like a Luke every year in the Star Wars line because there are 10 other figures in the same year.

Good point, MaulFan. I feel that if SS had dedicated more resources to this line earlier, then the "double-dipping" with variations would be justified. I know I would love to get an "Aragorn" in his Black Gate outfit and a Faramir in Gondorian Armor but would prefer getting some novel characters first (Pip, Merry, Gimli, Saruman, etc...)

Here's hoping for several new LOTR figures displayed at SDCC!

Ya, as an Aragorn fan, I've love a Helms Deep version because it's a cool outfit and I'd like to see another stab at his portrait, sculpting but more important paint wise. However, I don't see that as highly likely, but you never know. An Aragorn variant that improves on the flaws of the first figure could a be a good call though because I think it'd help stimulate interest in the line again, yes the rest of the fellowship and some villains would do that too, but another Aragorn if done really well could enthuse people, plus his overally sales might do better than some others too.

I think they've always planned on making a 2nd Aragorn... especially since the first release was labeled "as Stryder".

Well I think its difficult to say now what SS's plans are with variants... I really hope they don't dip into that well for a while yet... There are too many figures we need (Ringwraith, Wormtongue, Saruman, not to mention the rest of the Fellowship) to get into variants yet.

Really getting Frodo has made me hungrier for more LOTR figs.

I'm sure it'll have the effect on everyone, big turnaround really. Faramir, while remedied by the master painters, still left a slight sour taste with his factory paint, coupled with the long delay for the hobbits and interest was slipping towards coma status for most people, but between having the core Hobbits finally and the level of their execution, the line's been hit with the paddles and has a strong heartbeat. Hopefully GTG can be rolled out a little faster but with the same quality and keep it going.

i really want a frodo and sam in orc armor like the GG mini busts. speaking of which, has anybody tried putting those helmets from the GG busts on these guys? someone could probably make a cool custom if those helmets fit.

I was able to mount his belt and scabbard properly on the right with the buckle in front without futzing with anything. I just opened the belt and slid it over his legs.
