Lol, I think people are seriously overestimating how much interest is out there in Mad Max as a character. The original films didn't even crack $40 mil worldwide back in the day. So it's kind of a miracle that Fury Road managed to make as much as it did. And I'd say a big part of that was due to the buzz surrounding Furiosa and what an unexpected surprise she was in the film.
I think it's a miracle FR got made AT ALL.

Where dafuq is Khev!!!!!

I has a sad lol
Saw it tonight. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. Well I adored every moment Anya-Taylor Joy was on screen, that's for sure.

Not sure what I think about the
human tree at the end
and that first hour did take a while to get going but the good by FAR outweighed the bad. Nothing will ever be as tight and perfect as The Road Warrior of course and this new post-Fury Road take on the franchise obviously has less realism (Hemsworth's hundreds of motorcycle flunkies somehow having enough gas in the first act) and more CGI but if I let the first trilogy be its own thing and FR/Furiosa being something different I think they really are quite amazing.

This almost felt like a novel adaptation as opposed to a bombastic action film.

Opening to Thunderdome is super cringe.

Max hit in the head by a flying plane wheel and not even hurt one bit. :slap

Then airplane dad jumps out of a moving plane and lands perfectly in the car seat! :slap

Then the silly looney toons skit of putting a ton of weapons on the table before entering Barter Town. :slap

Yup, Furiosa is indeed better cgi and all.
Miller didn't direct any of that goofy stuff but the third act that he did direct was awesome.

Just fyi Furiosa was NOT as good as Dune 2 and JW4 in the thunderous sound department.

Her final car sounded good but thatcwas about it and even that didn’t match the Dune 2 and JW4 sonic powerhouse cinema experience.

Don’t get me wrong it was good but I was hoping for great especially with it being a movie with tons of vehicles.
Furiosa revving her car engine in front of Hemsworth at the end was almost painful in Dolby Atmos, lol.

And apparently it's quite literally impossible to make Anya-Taylor Joy ugly. God knows they tried with this film, and they failed. She is absolutely mesmerizing. Black paint, shaved head, blood, mud, it doesn't matter. Absolutely mesmerizing.

Dune 2 was my most anticipated film this year but I definitely think it was eclipsed by Furiosa.

As I live and breathe... back from the Wasteland...

I literally want to watch Furiosa again right now but even with Dune 2 beckoning me for free on HBO Max I'm all "2 hours and 45 minutes of Chani being mad and then a weak, bloodless finale. Ehhhhhh..."

lol
I was definitely just referring to box office results.

I fully agree as much as I enjoyed Dune 2 the anti-climatic battle and frowned Chani definitely brings down the entire movie lasting experience.

I really have no desire to revist Dune 2 I mean sure the sound design was one of the best ever even surpassing JW4 but a movie is more than just great sound.

Yet here I sit completely ready and actually excited for round 2 of Furiosa!

Certainly the cgi bugged me quite a bit and my initial feeling was that Hemsworth was “too pretty” to be a villain but the performances and their combined world building odyssey completely captivated me i’m seriously looking forward to revisting it this coming weekend.

Going back to Dune 2 would you believe that Beyond Thunderdome has a much nastier desert than Dune 2!

The desert in Thunderdome looked brutal.

People forget that beyond the ROTJ Ewok stuff from Beyond Thunderdome that a child gets swallowed by the desert in a close up no less and that Max literally punches a girl hard enough to knock her clean out and that’s after shooting 2 bullets near her head!

Thunderdome has some darkness brewing right underneath all that Ewok gooeyness lol

Khev has come to redeem the thread... and the movie. I'm going this weekend and can't wait.
I was going to go over the weekend with my daughter & son-in-law but then we all got caught up doing other things and it didn't happen. Poor box office isn't going to dissuade me from seeing this, but it does mean I can't wait too long as it'll now be gone from theaters sooner rather than later. I hope to see it either tomorrow or Friday. Khev's review seems to confirm that positive AV Club review that I posted @2 weeks ago. No doubt I'll be mesmerized by AT-J as well; IMO she's simply the best actress of her generation.

Hemsworth's crew having gasoline makes sense if a) this part is earlier in the timeline than Road Warrior or if b) he's getting gas from GasTown.

There were no less than three major action sequences in Furiosa more exciting and satisfying than the final battle of Dune. The first War Rig chase that Furiosa stowed away on and the Bullet Town battles were stupendous! Furiosa and Dementus *talking* at the end was more compelling than the Paul/Feyd-Rautha knife fight!

Furiosa's love interest guy was a surprise and a bit of a scene stealer himself, and he was more competent than FR Max, lol.

I thought he was iffy in the beginning, maybe too "Jack Sparrow-ish" but after his first attack on the Gas Town convoy and subsequent plan that followed I thought he was a great villain from that point on. Immorten Joe was surprisingly interesting in this film and I liked his initial "Thulsa Doom" style display of power.

Yep Thunderdome was a way harder PG-13 than Dune 2 and its finale absolutely blew Dune's away.

On the one hand I like when a film like this bombs because:

1. It means the series can be done and end on a high note

and

2. I'll probably be watching it on 4K very soon, lol.

But on the other hand if you want to see it in a premium auditorium then you need to go NOW.
