The Vader body is most likely - being too tall for Vader, he's just right (height-wise) for Chewie. I might be concerned that it's too bulky since Mayhew was a spindly fellow, but Vader is on the armor body which is much thinner than the normal one. So if the hair doesn't poof too much, it could look okay on a Vader body.

A new body is probably imperative. Vader's might have the bulk

Two much bulk actually, Vader's pretty broad in the upper body, Chewie almost looked like a tree trunk if he stands up with arms at the sides and legs straight, there's really no varaiton to his body shape at all.

There seems to be a distinct lack of knowledge of the production management process around here. If they approach it right and proceed with any diligence Sideshow can absolutely pull off a great furry 1:6 Chewbacca in mass quantities.

The world isn't flat, guys.

The world may not be flat, but there's been a history of having problems with getting the factories to turn things out just right. It'd be great if they try fur and get the factory to turn out one at the quality it should be at, but you can't blame people for being concerned that something might go wrong with the production figure, especially with fake fur and this much of it.

Funny.....Furry Chewie...that is what I call my.....nevermind.

I'm assuming that a sculpted fur means that its things they already know how to do and can do now which means that the PF is sooner than later while in wanted to do fur for the 1/6 it is giving a reason why we might have to wait a bit for it to come.

I thought putting fur on a figure might be achievable, doing a Wookie that actually look like Chewie will be a challenge.

The Hasbro attempt at furring up an armature worked pretty well with the Wampa. I have him standing with my Sideshow figures and he doesn't look out of place. The sculpted face, hands and feet, along with the matted down fur on the head were all well executed. The trouble with their armature Chewie was that he didn't receive the same level of care.

With their experience and superior quality, Sideshow can surely make this work, by furring up a fully jointed skeleton.

At the moment I'm making do with Hasbro's 20004 OTC moulded Chewbacca.

Yessss, sculpted fur Chewie PF for me!!! and sooner than expected as I think it's now in the works if they have choosen the format... maybe 2011 for the PF then or sooner? I know Sideshow can't make all the key characters soon or maybe people will loose interest... but anyway with the live action tv serie coming i think the interest on Star Wars will never stop.. well OT people will maybe stop collecting after all the main Pfs will be made but I think it's not a problem... If something is cool it will sell for sure!!!

This is exciting news. I'm a little skeptical about the sculpted fur PF though. I guess I'll have to wait and see how it looks in the end.

Woo hoo, 1:6 Chewie in 2014!

Nice to know they're tinkering with things (hopefully talking to Hot Toys) but I don't have much hope we'll see this anytime in the next couple of years.

I've been hoping for a sculpted fur Chewbacca PF, personally. I think that Sideshow will nail the sculpt, the paint application shouldn't be an issue and the bandolier/pouch will give it the mixed media requirement. I think a fur Chewie would look out of place with the other PFs and their sculpted hair. Plus, if it's sculpted it's $300, if it's fur it's at least $450 and probably doesn't look as good.

Just my opinion.

Good points. I'm just concerned that it may not look good being fully sculpted.

I think they will use the Vader as a base body. SSC isn't beyond the concept of the economy of scale, so they will likely re-use some parts as opposed to sculpting an entirely new body.

As far as proto work compared to production product, there will likely be some minor and possibly major problems that will be pointed out and undoubtedly there will be those who will defend any issue whether major or minor. :monkey3

A year ago I'd probably say recycling of Vader's body for Chewie would be highly likely, but with the Gammorrean Guard and Hammerhead figures in development, I now feel confident in Sideshow going with the appropriate path for the figure, if Vader's body doesn't allow them to properly capture Chewie, I don't see them using it just because they already have it, plus with all the R&D research in fake fur vs. sculpted, it makes more sense to figure a new body just for him, and like Vader, you could get at least 2 Chewbacca figures, the differences are pretty subtle in Chewie, but done right, an ANH Chewie and a ROTJ Chewie would look fairly different and you could provide different weapons. I'd rather just one Chewie with all weapons and alternate heads but I don't see that happening.

Why not look at the Attakus and Gentle Giant one... they look great!!! and a real fur chewie would be much of a challenge to mass produce eve if in a limited edition... I was one of the supporters for the real fur Chewie... but I'm sure Sideshow will do a better job with the sculpted one... It will be awesome for sure!!! can't wait to place him next to han luke leia and obi... and with the droids coming soon it will be a great A New Hope Display... just fantastic! :chew

It seems anything SW works fine for SSC now, so remember they can use the fur technology on all the other wookies from ROTS and for Ewoks.

Yup, GG's Chewbacca pieces really capture that unique style of his fur, I really think making a fake fur mass produced figure with that texture would be a challenge, and I don't see a point in making a Chewie with fake fur unless you can do that that, generic fur may have the plus of being fur, but if the figure passingly resembles Chewie what good is that. There have been a lot of fur customs of Chewbacca, and I applaud the skill and effort that goes into them, but most have a smooth, straight fur to them instead of Chewie's curly, shaggy look.

GG's faces on Chewie might not be dead on to him, but the body proportions and fur sculpts really capture him I think.

I would be good with a Wookie army. Ewoks...not so much.

We need Mallatobuck, Attichitcuk, Lumpawarrump and Kallabow

See the sculpted fur Chewie there looks pretty good but I don't know if I like it enough to buy one. But hey I've got plenty of other things to spend money on so if it makes others happy its great.

I definitely think a furred Chewie that looks good is possible. I can see the stuff HT used for the POTA figs looking good on Chewie.

Wow, that IS awesome news! FUR chewie all the way.
Make it work SS, take this round tuit, GIT-R-DUN!!!!!
