Good to know we can have two Superman movies in production but we can’t have Henry’s Man Of Steel 2 be one of them.

Not one thing I’m excited for on that slate. It’s kind of freeing actually. My era of comic book movies is over.

Personally I am very excited. Superman, Supergirl and the Brave and the Bold sounds awesome. Hope they will turn out great. I see so much negativity here which is understandable but if those movies are very good than things gonna be fine.

I can't belive this the best they can do. Where is the build up were are aw going . They hinted about thanos in the first thor movie by showing the infinity gauntlet. And we understood all these movies were setting up a team up . I am not interested in waiting for solo movies to establish new versions of current characters .

Who here really wants to see another solo superman or batman movie we want a team build up movie . Give us brainiac or new gods build up something.

How is supergirl helping build out a cinematic universe , or even the authority they are just variations of sucide squad anti hero stuff.

And greennlantern with its vast library of stories to adapt is relegated to a tv show.

What is this nonsense

It's not a question of if they are good movies rather it's another reboot of the same characters we have seeing for the past 20 to 30 years . What are these movies building towards

We don't know, and to Marvel's credit, we didn't really know what they were building towards at the start either. There was a lot of speculation and skepticism. We didn't know that Avengers would actually happen, and that Loki would be its main villain, and we didn't know Thanos was going to be in the post-credit scene to build out another 10 years towards Endgame.

Right now, all we have are vague concepts and ideas for certain stories and characters we know they want to include.

My viewpoint is that these all have great potential within them.

If the writing is good, and they can maintain the production values of the DCEU films we've seen so far, I can see many of these working out.

I can see Gunn's logic with some of this. For example, in Man Of Steel, I absolutely loved the sections in the beginning on Krypton. I felt a movie about Krypton would have been a better film in some ways ( and I really liked MOS) Waller and Paradise Lost is Gunn's version of if someone took Luke Cage, removed Luke Cage, and just made a series about Cottonmouth and his sister, both present day and in the past. I can understand the direction of Lanterns. The rules of that IP, in terms of world building, is hard for audiences to unpack. Just like The Eternals. It's hard to gauge the limits of their powers, and when that happens, someone looks overpowered. If they appear overpowered, then there's no conflict since there's no risk.

If the viewers/audience has fun and a good time, to me, that's plenty.

Peacemaker had some serious moments. But you could see the cast was actually having fun together.

I'll give Gunn a chance here, in my book, he's earned it.

Happy to see a Swamp Thing film in the works. Love the original movies and what the recent TV show tried, but they aren't really good adaptions of the book. Needs some straight up horror.

Creature Commandos? Wow. Thought I would never see them in live action form. I even have Weird War Tales #93

Not one thing mentioned on that list sounded even remotely interesting.

There have been so many Supermans on TV and elsewhere that the thought of ANOTHER reboot with ANOTHER actor just sounds boring and pointless.

Why Zazzo and his new hires aren't trying to build on SOME of the things that are still thought of fondly and still enjoyed by fans is just baffling.
Cavill was ready for Superman to go in a new, more optimistic direction. Yes, Wonder Woman 1984 was awful, but it (thankfully) didn't diminish Gal Godot's radiance as the Amazon. Audiences enjoyed Jason Mamoa's take on the Aquaman enough to make it a huge grosser for the studio. Ben Affleck barely got a chance to really bring Batman home. But wait...let's just throw them all out and get that new, unfamiliar cast in there telling yet ANOTHER version of the same stories.

These choices that Gunn and Safran are making are going to gut any interest in the new Aquaman movie or the Flash movie (and it's freaky sideshow). And throwing away audience goodwill and familiarity earned through the streaming of the current and past crop of DCEU movies is just odd when it could be considered that building on what is already there would be less expensive and less time consuming for the studio than starting AGAIN from the ground up at a time that Marvel is busy self destructing with it's agenda-driven drivel that is only adding to the growing audience indifference to this genre.

Said it before...I'm not getting the adulation for Gunn. He directed a trilogy of movies for Marvel that was quirky and fun for the moment it appeared. His take on Suicide Squad was unwatchable and he strikes me as another member of that creatively dead group that includes Bad Robot, Secret Hideout and the rest of these soulless, false "artists" that inspire endless clickbait claptrap and leave franchises behind like vulture capitalists gutting companies for all they're worth until they are just dead husks.

Here's hoping Zazzo doesn't spend too much of WB's fading capital on these uninspired offerings or he may find himself sharing lunch with Chapek at the kiddy's table.

I thought everyone wanted the Superman movie? I mean idk we don’t know what could be in it. But hopefully it’s good. Honestly I don’t know what to expect. I’m not excited nor am I mad. I just want DC to go in a good direction and succeed. Add new characters properly and not crap on them like they’ve doing

Looking at this crappy presentation compared to what marvel produces is pathetic. At this point it should be a clear thought out story arch with a series of movies that culminate in a big payoff , ie big bad. None of these are building towards that . And having 2 batman or superman/women is the worst idea. How well did she hulk work out for you. And that tom king story is a horrible intro why not do that one with dark side and batman superman or something. So we have this super girl in some planet away doing her own thing. Again what is this building towards. The GL are reduced to cops what hell I would be so happy with the animated movies at least. And we can go from there .

I dont want to wait 10 years to reach the same point. In addition in look at the source material by using Damian wayne as a robin we are losing out on stories connected to dick grayson and jason todd I would love to see a bane broken bat azazel story and death in the family but all that is lost.

I just dont see were this is going were is swap thing in the greater storyline. Where are going much like shazam and black Adam stand a lone stories that only service themselves and not the greater over arching story

Well wait a minute now, that sounds like you're advocating for exactly what they tried to do in the first place with the Snyderverse - skipping the solo movies (apart from Man of Steel) and jumping straight to the teamups all so they could catch up to Marvel in a short timeframe. People hated it. It didn't work out. It's why we're here at some sort of reboot attempt.

Am I misunderstanding you?

There's a small subset of developers/producers where a built in established audience will follow them.

Ryan Murphy is completely bankable. He's a cash cow for FX. He's extremely reliable. He has a stable of actors and crew that like to work with him and they produce reliable baseline shows and product. Shonda Rhimes is another. Taylor Sheridan. Dick Wolf for Law And Order. Joss Whedon. James Cameron. George Lucas. Oprah Winfrey. Tucker Carlson. Rachel Maddow. Simon Cowell. Howard Stern. Joe Rogan.

The critical reasons that Zack Snyder got hired in the first place are many of the SAME reasons that James Gunn is getting hired to replace him.

I'm not saying Gunn will have the impact of a Ryan Murphy across multiple shows/themes or get the momentum that Sheridan has gotten in the past few years. But David Zaslav wants to find out.

Ryan Murphy wasn't locked in with Glee, he was locked during Nip/Tuck. Someone saw a guy on the rise and locked him early before he blew up. I can see the same here with Gunn. They don't want present day Kevin Feige. They want their version of Feige just before Iron Man 1 came out.

Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. X-Men got Jennifer Lawrence on the way up. Then she resented the role, the makeup and kept mailing it in. The end result was lackluster. But the principle behind the decision makes good business sense.

The difference being Gunn is much further along than Ryan Murphy in a relative sense, from a potential standpoint, and inside a bigger stakes situation.

This isn't just the DCEU, this is all of WB as a whole. When CNN Plus tanked, this was all somewhat predictable. There was going to be some heavy bloodletting, fair or not. The DCEU was not going to spared from taking some hits as well in that carnage. A massive exodus happened across the board. Of course there were going to be some casualties.

There's a saying my uncle taught me as kid. This was right after he told me to never wear a fanny pack for any reason.

He said - "Bad timing is the ultimate enemy of what's seen as fair"

Quality of the snyderverse was debatable no doubt, but the casting was on point in my opinion. This half measure of tossing some actors and keeping Gunn's best buds and wife seems pretty lame and not in service of this "fresh start" we're supposed to be having.

Never mind that this is all supposedly being cast as getting young actors that can carry the franchise blah blah.

Maybe it's just too little too late for me to care, but I'm not sure I'm on board for this DC attempts it's MCU starting fresh.

Pretty damn underwhelming slate. I wonder what the production value will be given how broke WBD is.

Too bad that the consensus here seems to be negativity, but given WB's track record I suppose that's understandable. Personally, I think James Gunn is one of the most consistently solid creators of live action comic properties, going back to Super. He's a genuine comic fan, he's got good instincts, clearly has writing chops, understands how to balance humor with real drama and emotion, and also understands the breadth of comic stories from fun and off the wall to gritty and dark. Could all this turn out to be a disaster? Sure. But I'm way more optimistic for the DC universe now than I have been since Snyder came on board. I'm not bothered by taking on properties out of left field, either, because at the end of the day the storytelling is what matters.

Selfishly, my one hope from all the specific announcements is that we get to see Ted Kord Beetle in the Booster Gold show.

I dont think the issue was skipping the solo movies everybody know who is batman is they just did not like the movies tone in particular with the choices batman made and how superman was portrayed.

I personally felt the movie was off was missing some pieces and that was validated in the ultimate cut were the movie flower better.

What I wanted was a man of steel 2 which followed thr death and return of superman with the 4 imposter supermen culminating in a dooms day show down. BVS was fine I did not particularly like the choices batman made the willingness to kill granted he did not carry a gun like punisher but his car and jet had bullets but I can see what they where trying to do how can he agree to kill superman if he never kills.

To me the bottom line is am I entertained. And how that starts is adapting a good story . I hated the formula of the mcu has it made them a bit predictable from it to their credit they most adapted the most notable story arches for these characters from the comics. I simply wanted the same for dc. If I had more patience I would say yeah sure milk these franchises give us 3 movies each for each of them 6 or seven main characters followed by 4 team up movies .

But I am well past that point they still dont have a real plan to build towards something. DC has some of the best characters but they are left in the dust for constant reboots of superman and batman.

What wrong with a new gods movie Orion and dark side high father mister miracle. Green lantern is to big of a character to be relegated to and hbo max tv show it deserves the big screen. Supergirl well were is that going what is the point of that . The worst is the authority which not really a dc property but was part of image comic that totally feels out of place .

If he really wanted to impress me we could have done a live version of the cartoon justice league light in tone great stories easily adaptable to the big screen

Nearly every single comment on James gunns Instagram post regarding his new “plan” is negative. It’s quite hilarious to see. Everyone says to bring back Cavill. That’s literally all most people want, but stupid WB can’t even get that right. It’s pathetic. At this point I hope it all crashes and burns. This is exactly what happens when you alienate your fan base.

I think it going to bomb not only because the movie is going to be compared against the previous but it will be compared against itself 2 versions of superman one male and one female two versions of batman .

It skipped this whole batman superman reboot and went completely with another set of characters he could have avoided this and then circle back to these two characters it would have fine

I get what he is trying to do make a movie version of superman man of tomorrow the animated movie . Where the tone of the movie is this wholesome country nieve young man and batman could be like the other animated movie where he and robin take on death stroke. It a has little humor and something new with robin .

But the previous versions of these characters are still present in the audiences mind and most people enjoyed there portray just not necessarily the story. So it and upward climb plus they are competing against other versions of themselves its setup to fail.

Could have had new gods movie big space opera with competing royal familes big scale implications. Or green lantern war or anything and then come back to batman superman since enough time would have passed . Superman is due to come out in 2025 too soon.

I’m really tired of Gunn footing the bill for Cavill’s ousting. I love Cavill, but he was 0 for 2 on Superman appearances. First being that his “audition” for the new DCU was three drab appearances in Snyder’s Randian Superman fan fic where NONE of his natural charisma was highlighted and where his Superman was a perpetually uncertain and doubting emo sad sack.

Second was a cameo, a handshake, and the assurances of his manager and The Rock in a mediocre (at best) Black Adam vanity project that MIGHT have been a banger had it come out in 2003, but, amidst the plethora of Marvel and DC projects to come out since (and all the respective advancements thereof), was a sorely lacking, disjointed and utterly pathetic attempt at franchise building. To paraphrase the great Stevie Ray Vaughan, Cavill was “stranded. Caught in the crossfire.”

Does it suck? Absolutely. Do I GENUINELY like him and hope he gets another shot in some Crisis movie or any project they can find a place for him? YES! But should Gunn be facing all this backlash while Snyder and Dwayne sit on their haunches lapping it up? Absolutely not.
