Do those hurt your feelings? Those comments are everywhere. if you want those to stop, this board would probably be dead 20 hours of the day.

Honestly nash, no, it does not hurt my feelings, but I don't understand the need for people to almost be intentionally insulting with their comments. I have been guilty of it in the past myself and am trying to get out of it. Like I said people know artists post here so why not try to be constructive with the issues people have? Some don't like the piece and there is nothing wrong with honesty, but some of this is a little over the top.

Be honest, if the artist was standing in front of you would you be totally insulting about it or try to be constructive about what's wrong in your opinion? If the artist was your friend maybe you would be insulting about it, but if you didn't know the guy ( or gal ) I doubt you would toally trash it w/o mercey to his face would you?

I understand your point, but come on....most of those are one liners that people throw out after seeing the initial pictures of the piece. that's how this stuff goes down all the time, am i wrong?

I dont think anyone is saying Mr artist you suck big time, this piece looks horrible. Taking what someone says about a piece and comparing that same thing to the artist as a person is totally off the mark imo. Why are you thinking of it as getting personal with the artist when someone says some stupid comment? Also, I dont think you can make the comparison of an online forum to actually speaking to someone. I think many times when people are typing, they are already handicapped in how they come across to the rest of the population. It's only common sense that actually conversing with that same person would yield a different result due to the subtle expressions and changes in tone of voice. Another thing as is the case with me at least, people may be lazy to type out a lengthy post using every politically correct term about how they dislike the item so they go straight for the kill.

Heck AH even admitted that is why he doesnt post much anymore, aside from being busy.

I agree with you on one thing though, many people here do have the "im going to bash this and try to be funny" syndrome.

You make valid points nash. I just have felt like this board has gotten overly negative in the last couple of months. Maybe it's due to the increase of the number of members so the % of negative posts to total board members isn't higher, but the overall number of neg posts are due to more members.

Either way, I think everyone ( hello, me too ) could be a little more tactful when voicing displeasure with a piece.

I could be wrong, but I think it is just in our nature to want to argue our points to the death. Josh would agree. :p

If I meet Mat Falls and comicon I am going to ask him politely why he felt the need to make the Frodo PF sculpt suck so hard.:monkey5:monkey5:monkey5

Not really. I actually think the sculpt is probably pretty good. It is just those poor Chinese factory workers ^^^^ing up the sculpt with their painting skills.

And yes, I still say there is a way to voice displeasure w/o being a tool.

This is how you do it. This piece sucks and I will not be buying it. If you have a problem with that just remember:

First the LOTR PF's. Then they messed up the Stealth Iron Man's. Now they are onto stealing their own peoples property and ruining the honor of the Olympic games. What's next?!? :lol

Maybe Teemu knows.:monkey3

I grow tired of saying this so it will be the last time (not really, I'm just paraphrasing Governer Tarkin)...

DON'T MAKE ME COME DOWN THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!:emperor

I agree. We tend to want to hammer our point home. I know I do. Its in my nature when I feel passionate about something.

Here....

IMO many of these cross the line. We all know artists read and post in this forum. I think they would find much of this insulting.

Well I guess it depends on what one think's constitutes "over the top" criticism, 'cause while there have certainly been some neg. comments I personally don't think more than a couple of them crossed any line, including the line you strangely forgot to quote about being a "complete tool".

Howver, the insulting comments go over the top. If you can't see that then you need a reality check.
I am critical if I don't like a piece, but I don't feel the need to be insulting towards the artists or tell people who do like a piece to "open their eyes and look again".

No Kit you just call other board members complete tools............ Take your own advice and stop contributing to the very thing you are complaining about yourself! I've said it before on here, WHO KNEW COLLECTING COULD SOOOOOOO SERIOUS!! And there was me thinking this was fun.....:angelsmil

This place can be fun. However, in almost every single thread people are ^^^^^ing and arguing about something. I agree that things should be fun. I also agree that people should have their right to an opinion. I do think though that the way some people present their opinions can be a little crazy. I think some people myself included come here to relax and discuss stuff. When I go into threads and people are constantly going back and forth arguing it gets old and ceases to become fun. Hence why I don't go into the SW threads much anymore. :lol I think that is all he was venting about.

Isn't that inevitable in a public forum where freedom of speech is a right as are opinions? I may slag a piece off because I don't like it but I like to think I do it jokingly or in a funny way because I am in no way slagging the artist themselves but when they do a statue that I think is dodgy IN MY OPINION I have every right to say so and they as an artist should accept that not everyone is going to love every move they make. I criticize or slag a piece not an artist and if the artist in question chooses to take that personally thats their business not mine, like I said these guys know their work is up for scrutiny and rightly so, so if you can't take the criticism then don't make statues!!! Evidently though, its not the artists on this forum that have the problem with "negative criticism"

I think it comes down to more people needing to learn how to say something. Not that people can't say something negative but say it constructively. If you think the sculpt is bad say why instead of just saying it looks like a dude or accusing SS of bait and switch as some have. Take a little time to think about what you post I think is the message Kit is trying to get across.

I think you are taking it personal. It is not that people think something is dodgy. That is fine to think that. Personally I don't think that this statue is all the great. I would say that the sculpt looks off and doesn't look like the character in the movie. Now if I say oh that is crap and what a piece of ^^^^. Where is the good in that if I am not saying why I don't like something? It is almost like a wasted post in a DISCUSSION forum. Again, I think the frustration comes into play when in just about every thread you have some people that will come in with their one liners and nothing to contribute as to why they don't like something. Again you are right and we are all free to say what we want. To me though it is bad form to come to a DISCUSSION forum and not discuss anything.
