Is his costume really that much more complex than Sidious/Palpatine, though? And that was TWO highly-detailed figures that came with as many (or more) accessories for only $30 more total. That's part of why I can't figure out GTG's pricepoint.

The costume appears to be more complex yes (going by the high res anyways). It took TWO figures though for them to come with as many items as GTG does. Individually they do not so......

I'm afraid I'll be cancelling Gandalf too. With Indy, Clone Obi and GI Joe all hitting in the 3rd QTR, a $90 Buck seems the least painful cut to make. Hate to do it, but these new prices are forcing me to run lean and mean.

OK, I went back like 6 pages and saw nothing mentioned so I'll just share this and if it's old oh well.

The 2/19 Q&A is up and states Gandalf is on a Buck and that for now, they will continue to use the Buck

when appropriate (there are many factors that influence the decision of which body to use, including manufacturing and logistical reasons)

I don't care about the new body, and I don't care about the amount of accessories the 12" figures come with. What does bug me, is that when I ordered a LotR figure in the past, It already cost me $100 after shipping and taxes. Now, it will be closer to $160 PER FIGURE. Way to break the balls of an completist that unfortunately lives across the Ocean.
If I would live in the US, I'd probably laugh at the new price tag, just as you. At least, until I would realize that that is pretty selfish.
I dare not ask how much the Australians now have pay for getting a Sideshow 12" figure delivered to their home. Let's not forget that thousands of international collectors support the US economy by buying from Sideshow in direct. There is rarely a cheaper alternative for us. Not if you want the exclusive versions anyway. If Sideshow says they appreciate the business the international collectors give them, they must meen it.

Well perhaps further updates regarding the bodies will give insight into the choice of which body.

My guess is, based on the Q&A, that most of Gandalf's cost is in accessories and tailoring, so to keep the overall down they opted for the Buck. It's quite possible this may be a $120 figure with Prometheus.

To me outfits like Aragorn's and Boromir's were more intricate and the accessories were comparable. I'm gonna have to see some different pics of Gandalf that prove his costume warrants the price.

I have to agree on this. I was real close to cancelling Gandalf, but knew I would regret it if I did. If Sideshow continues the line past the fellowship, and the price point goes higher, I will have to get away from this line. Look at the Hot Toys military line with cloth boots, different tactical vests and pouches (these assault vest with body armor, are truly 1/6th scale works of art), very intricate military weapons with moveable parts and removable magazines. Add their superb head sculpts and poseable bodies. They are only a little more than Sideshows new price points. Sorry, I just don't get it.

Sorry, but I will never, EVER pay $90 for a figure on a Buck body.

I feel the exact same way. I won't go beyond $60 for any SW figure on a buck either, just not worth it to me.

Well, I know I'll enjoy having Balin's journal, even if I'm the only one. This figure is too beautiful and too intricate to miss out on, especially with such an important exclusive. I'm loving every part of this figure! I'm surprised so few others do just because of the price.
