I am not worried about the production. Sideshow has been pretty consistent this last year. (thank the gods).

This arrived today... unexpected, but definitely most welcome. Three more and the Fellowship will be complete. With any luck Gimli will be next announcement!

If there is going to be another LOTR 12-inch Figure Announcement soon, I bet it will be Gandalf the White! :maul

I will still buy Gandalf the White if they announce it but I certainly prefer to complete the Fellowship first. However, SS has its own unique way to surprise us!! :gun

If they announce Gandalf the White, I'm going to indulge me some serious naivete and take it as a sign that the line is destined to complete the Fellowship, and beyond.

when i watched the film clip SSC did(backstage pass) im sure the dude who was talking about Sam and Frodo,he talked about the NEW small bodies but hinted at what SSC were going to be making next in regards to LOTR-safe to say Merry and Pippin!!! BUT you could probably make a Gimli out of that,in which im sure the line would be open for Saruman and any other MAJOR character in the film. Why not just make small numbers for the fans rather than a HUGE amount that dont sell.Sounds like a plan....

The idea of making future releases in more limited numbers isn't bad at all! Then dedicated LOTR fans could continue to enjoy building their prized 12-inch collections, while the leftovers wouldn't end up sitting on shelves in Sideshow's warehouse for 6 months or whatever.

We definitely need some baddies, and Saruman would be a logical choice for the first non-hero figure. Maybe Saruman the White, not Gandalf, will be the next announcement!

I would like to think that releasing LOTR figures in smaller numbers (and probably at higher prices) would work. But you have to sell a certain number of figures in order to recoup the cost of designing and manufacturing them. And even if they could make a modest profit by doing this, you have to also consider the fact that they have limited capacity in terms of their sculptors' and costume designers' time, and in terms of factory production capacity. If they have to choose between making, say, a Star Wars figure that is guaranteed to sell thousands, and a LOTR figure that won't make as much money, there's a good change they'll take the more profitable option.

Do Inclusives. Make whats ordered. I think people would almost feel obligated to order them to keep the line going. Probably not financially doable though.

I think I could live live with higher prices (as long as quality remained high) if it would ensure the continuation of the line. Doing Inclusives could at least give Sideshow a fair indication of how many people are still into collecting the LOTR 12" line. Releasing some non-hero characters from the LOTR would probably give the line a healthy boost, and there's bound to be renewed interest (and increased sales) with the release of The HOBBIT and LOTR prequel(s).
:ring :ring :ring

In the meantime, bring on SARUMAN!!! :saruman

Like all LotR figures, Gandalf seems to be coming in the midst of a flood of Sideshow products. Unfortunately like Frodo and Sam before him, he got the axe. But hopefully like Frodo and Sam I will be able to pick up the exclusive version later on without difficulty. I really hate to do it, but these LotR figures have had a great track record for being easily available.

:monkey2

I was going to put myself back on the waitlist but will wait for him to be GC eligible when most likely he will go up on second chance.

Shouldn't some production pics from China be surfacing by now??

I know of someone here in the States who already has it! I can't disclose who it is, but I will share the good news of what he/she has said about it:

I got my 12" Gandalf the Grey. Looks like Sideshow is using some of Hot Toys head-making process, because these guys are NOT cast & painted like the previous SS heads. As for the figure... It's as much of a home run as their ol' Ben Kenobi. It looks STUNNING

:google Can't wait! :joy

So does this someone have some pics they can pass on to you so you can pass them on to us, or will all be revealed shortly?
