With Buffy, Angel, PotA etc there was no commercial light at the end of tunnel. Not so with LOTR. We still have two films that are going to be HUGE so the promise of momentum for the line in future is there-unlike those other lines... so yeah, this time I really believe "On Hold" means nothing more than that.. on hold.

X-Files 2 didn't stir up anything new  We'll see, if it comes back great, but I'm going to start accepting Gandalf as the end and live with that and if i'm surprised later on, awesome.

I still don't understand how "The Hobbit" could revitalize this line.

IF SS were to obtain the license for that film, why would it automatically mean that we would be getting more "Lord of the Rings" figures? Different license and different characters, for the most part. We could get some characters that are in all of the films (Elrond, Aragorn, Gollum, Saruman, Gandalf...) but there would be a whole new set of characters from just The Hobbit to work with.

I hope you weren't comparing Xfiles to The Hobbit... Please tell me you were joking....

:horror

It'll be tough, if they put too much into LOTR product, people will be asking where's the Hobbit merchandise. Best move would be to develop a lot of new LOTR stuff between now and just before the release of the Hobbit, unleash it while Tolkien's on folks minds, then be ready to put out film based product after the release. Once the movie's out, could be trouble mixing product from the older films with the new one, especially if the new one is filled with lots of cool things to base products on.

Although now LOTR is on hold and POTA is getting the PF treatment :duh

Oh well, Gandalf has left the building and will be here on 11/4, and that same day the Samaritan is coming as well :rock :rock :rock

It'll be a $500 worth of collectibles day :lol :google

While I agree it'd make sense for the time off to develop the more complex figures, to put everything on hold for that, to me, is stupid. If on hold really is for development, it's a dumb move, collectors will be lost in the wait period. Continue standard human figures during the time, at the pace it's been going, 2 figures a year, there's enough non-complex LOTR figures can be made in that time to keep the line running while the complex stuff is in development.
