I'd be happy with any of the 4. You win with any of them so its a tough choice really. I'd kind of like see Matt's take on it because people where kind of hard on the Strider piece.

There are sculpts I really like by Matt (Leia Boushh and ROTJ Luke to nake a few) but I am hoping for Trev, Oluf, or Tim on this one.

(note: the Aragorn sculpt is REALLY great, its just the paint apps that suffered. So maybe a Matt Gandalf would be interesting).

I forgot about people's reaction to Aragorn, which is sad as I still think he's one of Sideshow's best works. Having them all on the shelf together, I think Legolas is the one that could do with the most tweaking, mainly with the hair, which must have been a nightmare to try and translate to 1:6 form since it's not full and thick like everybody elses.

Now that's a damned fine guess as to the exclusive. But I think the Smaug firework is better suited to being a Merry or Pippin exclusive.

I agree with that (really I smell a Pippin/Merry two pack with the Smaug firework ex.) What could it be? This is one of the most baffleing exclusives I can remember in a while.

Legolas is my least fave released so far. Good figure but I'm not the biggest Legolas fan.

Six down, three to go! Never having completed the group with any of the SS/Weta pieces, I would really like the complete fellowship in one line--and it looks like (ironically) the first Sideshow LOTR line to do that will be the one that I dropped out of before it ever started.

:banghead

I don't think the fellowship in PF form will ever happen, and frankly the chance of getting all four hobbits in the LSB line seems pretty unlikely as well. So if you want a full set of all nine characters, this seems to be the line that's going to offer it. (Unless they give us something in a diorama...)

Can I just say how much I love this line? I mean, it's everything I've been hoping for--my favorite company making my favorite type of collectible in my favorite scale of my favorite characters from my favorite story at the best time of my life--could there be any greater joy in my collector's heart than this? To live to see such times--can there be any greater bliss for a collector? I think not! I mean, really, I get so excited I get short of breath and jumpy and bubbly, so much that I can barely even contain myself at the thought! Man, those hobbits, Gandalf . . . I can't express how happy I am right now! And then to see my collection now, and the happiness I get looking at it and posing them and marveling at Les' masterpiece and thinking of all the fun of getting the figures--I'm so happy!

Bless you, Sideshow!

I hear Cap. I was worried when the SSW line ended that my days of getting LOTR pieces was really coming to an end. Then SS announced they where going to be doing LOTR pieces and honestly its been happiness ever since.

Oh, that would be unfortunate, though maybe some people don't like reading wordy posts and all that. Though it's kind of sad. I hope I didn't do anything to offend anybody that you know about? I wish I could apologize to him or her, whomever it may be. Oh well, people are free to do as they like. I wouldn't get upset or angry because of it. I'm just happy to be getting the figures I like!

Going by Mat's take on Old Ben, he's probably the last one I'd want to take on Gandalf, he gets the forms, but his overall style is a bit too soft to me. With the older characters, fine lines can really add to the feeling of the age. Like Palpatine compared to Old Ben. Oluf nailed McDiarmid's look, but the overall sculpt feels too soft and doesn't convey his age so much, where Trev's Ben sculpt is so rigid you feel like it's an old man. Gandalf more than any of the Star Wars old timers is not only old looking, but his face almost has a wear and tear feel to it, coupled with his messy hair and you really sense he's been around the block, and that's an important character trait. I want a sculpt the doesn't just mimic McKellen, but captures the Gandalf character from the film.

Good point Sean. The sculpt should not just be an excellent portrait of the actor but it should really convey the ancientness* of the character. I think Trev's the man I would want... But we shall see. :google

*is "ancientness" a real word? :lol

I think Tim Miller could capture that worn look in the face too, I'm very impressed with the rawness of his T-1000 portrait for the Sideshow bust, very defined cheek bones and such, and the fine detailing in the hair like Trev and Andy do is there too.

That's why as great as Faramir's hair is done, I don't think it's appropriate for at least Gandalf's beard, his hair maybe, but it's almost too soft and elegant looking. Harsh to say but Gandalf's entire look has a feeling like he hasn't washed himself or his clothes in a hundred years :lol

I don't have issues with either sculpts you mentioned which is why I'm fine with either really. I just want a piece that kicks ass and looks good so whichever winner does it makes me a winner too. :)

After seeing Trevor's "Ben" Kenobi sculpt, I would lean towards hoping that he got to do Gandalf's sculpt. But honestly, I'm fine with whom ever got the nod from Sideshow.

I will confess that is a very valid point; Faramir was the only Man with clean hair, wasn't he now. :lol At least compared to the mud and grime so common to the Men of Gondor and Rohan. But I think Oluf would be exceptional, and I would almost prefer him to the others. Again, however, it's all a matter of preference and style, and frankly, I'm almost 100% positive I'm going to like the sculpt so much that I really won't even care who did it, because really, I don't. Sculpt is big for me, but not huge. MY big issue is costuming. That's where I get picky.

Well, for me, Gandalf the Grey is like Old Ben in the Star Wars line, so I'm a little more invested into how this one turns out. I've been happy with the whole line, it looks fantastic, but I have a certain mental impression of Gandalf's look and I'm just rooting for that vision to be fulfilled by this figure as my Ben vision was by that figure.
