All I know is that while the Maquette and PF of GG are great, I for one will never knock the original SS/Weta piece...It was one of the first LOTR pieces I ever owned and still looks great in my book today!...

hi does anyone know what is the significance of the exclusive staff with the crystal? what is the back story around this crystal? why would the same staff have crystal in ex version, but not in the regular version? thanks

Gandalf placed the crystal in his staff in Moria, where it served as a light.

A lot of people compare this piece unfavorably to the PF (which admittedly does look like the definitive Gandalf collectable) because of the dramatic pose. I love it, though, as it always reminds me of Gandalf calling down lightning while confronting the Nazgul at Weathertop a few days before Aragorn and the hobbits camped at the same spot (this is from the book, not the films).

If you are talking about the films, Gandalf uses 2 staffs in the first film. The Non exclusive staff is the staff he starts out with in the Fellowship film. Saruman takes it from him, and the Exclusive staff is the one he uses for the rest of the film. That's the staff he places the crystal in to light their way through Moria. Honestly, i never knew Gandalf used 2 different staffs in the film til Sideshow released their 12 inch figure of him with 2 staffs.

Ahh yes thanks guys, remembered now. Wow sideshow is pretty detailed around those things, i completely forgot he did that in moria to illuminate.

This piece was the biggest surprise to me, i just got it. Looking at the photos it was just average - something to have to complete the fellowship. But it is amazing in person, i was pretty stunned. The amount of detail on gandalf's face, the bag hanging down, the shoes, the cloak and love the pose with glamdring out ex staff in front, also excellent paint app.

I prefer this much more than the mixed media PF. It is just so intricate and less static. People always say this, but in this case photos really doesnt do this justice, all you see is a mostly monocolored grey statue in the pictures, all the details are lost. The other statues in the series are also excellent but i didnt have such a big surprise because i already expect them to be top notch, but this one was a very nice unexpected wow.

With the exception of arwen i can honestly say this line has been phenomenal so far. May have to end up getting arwen anyway just for completeness sake /sigh I am trying to resist as long as i can.

Yup, the Gandalf statue is pretty damn cool. Once you see it in person I think people understand why I've spoken so highly of it.

I did remember the Moria part very well but I had no idea he used 2 staffs and I've seen the movie many times.... :slap

Just goes to show....

Now you have a great reason to watch the LOTR movie again (should you need one). :lol :lol :lol

:duff
Bill

Been meaning to do that! pick a sunday, kick everyone out of the place, and watch all 3 movies in 1 setting! But with the 2 hobbit movies coming out, this will have to wait until they are on bluray then i will watch all 5 in 1 setting!

I never rewatch a movie, so it's a big deal! (to me :panic: )

I love this statue. i didn't like the way they had the hat pushed back on his head when i first saw the pictures. But in hand, it works very well and lets you see his face. I still wish the exclusive had been a hatless head. The one thing i don't like about the statue is the way the exclusive staff doesn't touch the ground. It hovers about a quater inch above the rock which always looks weird to me.

I just received this statue from an awesome boardmember and I am blown away. This is my first one, and despite looking at the specifications, I didn't expect him to be so huge! I can't wait for Gimli to arrive for a better display!

congrats.

this is my favorite statue out of all the 1/5 so far! gimli is my least favorite (not counting arwen). guess i am weird like that.

Talking about favorites, mine is Legolas followed by Arwen. Haven't seen Gimli in real, still on the hunt.
