Yeah when affluent folks get peeved.....I haven’t heard a one of them talk about the declaration of war also a result of unfiltered comments....their too offended by being told they should be fired.... we got our priorities straight [emoji106]

Well technically we were already at war with North Korea. Obviously Trump’s comments are only inflaming tensions, but I think he wants that. I’ve been saying since day one that one of the few things that can help Trump’s ratings are a war. It really helped G.W. Bush. That being said, I didn’t expect Trump to be this overt in creating international conflict.

Its not about creating war, this isnt some fake nuclear weapons crisis, or a revenge mission undertaken by a former presidents son that felt his dad was disrespected by a foreign leader after the gulf war. North Korea is a cancer to the world; the world would be a better place if there were dealt with now. Turning a blind shoulder doesn’t make the problem go away, war maybe the only solution at this point. Nobody wants war, but sometimes it has to happen especially when a country is being run the way North Korea has been for the last 60 years. World war 2 is a pretty good example of how inaction (doing nothing) can result in more losses and devastation then action, America wanted nothing to do with anymore "foreign Wars" after WW1. FDR knew how bad Hitler was and that something had to be done to stop him, but his arms were tied behind his back with public opinion. He had no public support to enter the war until Japan Invaded us; it can be argued that had we entered the war earlier in the mid 30s a lot of the devastation of World War 2 could have been prevented. Instead we waited, pretending like nothing was happening, that the affairs of Europe don't effect us here in the safety of the USA, and thereby allowed Germany to wipe out half of Europe under the guise that is wasn’t our war to fight. Our country was so scared to pick a side during that war that we wouldn’t even allow holocaust survivors to defect to our country or provide them sanctuary in fear that it would bring us into the fight. I wonder how many lives could have been saved had we acted when we should have, we shouldn’t make the same mistake twice, leaving N. Korea alone and hoping they will become better on their own is definitely not the answer either. When a country threatens world peace, we have to act now, why wait until they are ready to attack without provocation.

So what do you suggest the U.S. do? And why do you think they have not?

Finally Carmelo, gonzo, good riddance. Maybe we can wins some games this year

I dunno....I think OKC, Cle and he Rockets should be a hot mess of fun this year....I think Bos, LAL, 76ers and Wolves should just be fun....I don’t hold out hope for anyone else and knowing the ending will be a bore still has more to offer than last year

Ridiculous. How has diplomacy worked for America so far? Bill Clinton ended up turning them into a nuclear power by playing Neville Chamberlain. NK has pulled this crap forever and they usually get concessions from America. Not anymore.

Agreed, but this situation is extremely difficult. There's 28 million South Koreans in immediate striking distance. The only way a preemptive attack would work is to blanket North Korea with EMP's, but that still might not stop them. It's difficult either way. Wait for them to strike first and kill millions, or we strike first and they'll kill millions. Either way it ends badly and millions die. I'd love to have an inside guy sabotage and blow all of their bombs/facilities up, but this isn't the movies. FTR, Trump and Obama both said America could destroy NK.

There's also the school of thought that it's all a big bluff and I actually think most of it is. Through decades of this behavior NK has always gotten concessions. This time is different so it'll be hard for them to back down and save face, but they're a hardcore dictatorship, so it's not like their people will know the truth. The world will know the truth. There's no perfect solution as of yet.

Remove the crazy dictator from power, sniper shot to the head would work :) on a serious note it's not for me to decide nor is this really the place to discuss it. My previous post was in response to the above poster, and I got a bit carried away. I Shouldn't be perpetuating political discussions esp when it's obvious people just want to discuss the nba here

We've done nothing in the past because we didn't want to piss off China, it's the only reason North Korea still exists today otherwise they would have been wiped out during the Korean War...nowadays it's Russia that somewhat protects them diplomatically.. either way at some point they will have nobody protecting them and their time will come to a swift end.

Back to basketball, this is what happens to sports threads when athletes mix sports and politics, I really hope the NBA does not end up like the NFL

Agreed...I’d suspect the NBA follows suit. I’d prefer they express political views in the proper forum. If I want politics or agendas plenty of avenues to get my fill instead of at a sporting event. They provide entertainment and pretending they sway or impact my beliefs is ridiculous....

The guy trashing on Californians is a hypocrite, you want people to give trump a chance yet you just used a stereotype to define a whole state of people from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and beliefs. This type of thought process is why people are protesting, stop using stereotypes to define groups of individuals that reside in the same geographical region, or who are of the same race, religion or creed. I just don’t get how any intellectual person could say that everyone who resides in California are clones of one another, forget free will and thought, forget about everything we know about genetics, DNA and the like- they are all the same... Is that how you really believe the world to be, that if one dog bites their owner, all dogs that live in that state or are of that breed are going to bite their owners thus they should all be put down and eradicated. Saying all Californians are bad people is no different than saying all white people are bad or all black people are bad, or that our current president is a fascist racist retard. Only siths deal in absolutes, the world isn't just black and white there are often morally grey areas-the solution usually lies in these grey areas between two extreme points of view. Trump is a rapidly becoming a toxic president, he says things on record that no other president in the history of our country would dare to say or get involved in. He is different than the normal politician which is his greatest strength, but it is also rapidly becoming his greatest weakness, he does not know when to just shut up and take the highroad. He is like Kevin Durant, he can’t enjoy the fact he just won the championship, he just can’t take the high road, he has to respond to everything, thereby giving the opponents he hates so much power in acknowledgement. If he just ignored half this ****, it would disappear but he cannot. He is like the bully at school that cannot let bygones be bygones when he feels some little freshman disrespected him because he had the audacity to walk down the same hallway as him.

For the record i dont agree with players protesting the flag or national anthems at games, its the wrong forum for such protests, not only that but they are protesting the wrong way. The flag is a symbol of unity and it honors those that faught to defend it along with all the liberties we are afforded living in this great country. It should be used as a symbol to bring us together as a people but instead its being targeted as a symbol to tear us apart and for that the players are dead wrong. They can have their football ill keep my flag, the red white and blue are colors i will always be proud of, cant say the same for the red white and gold team that spawned my nfl fandom

well said.

I don't see Cle as a hot mess this year. If they can add Wade off the bench, and get a healthy Isiah, would you say this is the best team Lebron has ever had on paper? And they should have a top 3 pick next year. It shouldn't be enough to beat GS, but it leaves me hopeful it COULD happen if they improve their D.

OKC is the most intriguing for me because PG and Melo should make up for the loss of KD's offense while adding one of the best wing defenders in the league. If OKC can get into the top 3 in the West, I can't see any of those 3 guys leaving either. I just wish the East was better because I look at Bos on paper, and they look pretty underwhelming to me when Kyrie holds the ball so much.

All of these offseason moves have made me very excited for the regular season next year, along with the young Kings that I'm hopeful for. I didn't think things would shake down like this one bit.

Sports are super important to Americans. So it’s actually the perfect venue to stage a protest and have your voice heard. Look at all of the conversation it has sparked.

It's not the perfect venue because Americans watch sports to escape the daily grind, to have fun, and to leave our worries at the door. This is a huge part of why so many don't want to hear or see it at games. There's a lot of people saying, "do it on your own time". The protests are the equivalent of when someone doesn't get convicted of a crime, so people rush into the streets and block traffic, pissing people off. They aren't converting anyone and will only make people oppose them more.

The conversation is two sides and no one is listening to the other, with each side telling the other to shut up. Nothing will change and people will be further divided. It's the epitome of slacktivism/virtue signaling, anyway.

Regardless if you guys ‘like’ it being used as a venue to be heard, it’s still the perfect venue to be heard. The point of a protest is to bring attention to a cause or issue and to reach as many people as possible.

Minority’s have been trying to have this ‘conversation’ forever to no avail. So now the nation is forced to talk about it instead of continuing to ignore it. Sports have always been used as a vehicle to push for social change. Especially for African Americans who represent a small percentage of the population but a majority of popular American athletics. It’s bigger than anyone’s desire to use sports to escape the daily grind.

As I mentioned conversations should always consider the intended audience......kids see this stuff and they don’t have the cognitive skills to understand.....depending their source of understanding something of good intent can be totally misguided. This is a grown up issue and should be set in that forum, it has nothing to do with like minds...as I said it’s lazy thinking.

Your attempts to set rules and limits around where and when a protest should take place tells me (like I said).. they picked a good venue to get your attention.

Guess this was lazy as well..

Anyways..

Not setting rules it’s being understanding and compassionate towards others versus setting a personal agenda....wife is a teacher in one of the larger districts in our state and we get the good fortune on working with kids from all walks of life. It’s very clear how confusing and “not towards the true purpose” these demonstrations messages are being delivered in homes creating confusion and anger in little minds. It’s a grown up problem so any form of demonstration when done lazily is wrong imo.
