Thanks for the good read. Has anyone here heard of GG doing statues of the LOTR characters?

Just the animated maquettes thus far.

Well here's to hoping that regular statues of the LOTR characters are made, kind of in the same scale as their Star Wars line... :duff

I hope one of the next "Ring Bearers" will be Frodo, so we could finally have an accurate face sculpt of him.

Check this video out if you wanna know more about GG's digital scanning technolgies:

At about 2:08 minutes in the video you see Karl Z Meyer showing a Frodo maquette.

Here's a blurred pic I took (it will look better in the video link above):

And this info is from an older thread here:

New "Ring Bearers" and animated resin collectibles.

Gentle Giant Studios is keeping the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy alive with new resin collectibles for 2006. While no photography was allowed at Toy Fair, GG did provide a glimpse at two new projects:

* RING BEARERS will star the likes of Aragorn (on display as a prototype), Frodo, Sam and Gimli as resin busts with a keepsake drawer imbedded in the base. Each approximately $50 piece will also include light and sound effects.

* LOTR ANIMATED MAQUETTES will combine the look of Lucas' "Clone Wars" with characters from Middle-earth. Each GG animated-style sculpture will be approved by New Line before release. Saruman (as an unpainted prototype) was the first on display and by golly, the look looks good. Each piece will retail for around $80 each.
I hope we are gonna see more of these soon.

I'm only going to do the busts from GG. The 12" and PF lines are enough for me.

I'm not sure how I feel about the "Light and Sound effects" they mentioned. I guess I'll have to see it first hand.

That was mentioned earlier this year, there was no mention of "light and sound effects" for the ones released so far, I too hope that it stays that way.

I hope frodo, sam & gimli are next those would be awesome

I'd like a little mixture of Fellowship and non-Fellowship characters. We all know that everyone from the Fellowship will be made at least once and some more than that. Give me some orcs, trolls, and elves.

I hope so too. I love the busts the way they are, I don't need extra bells and whistles that cheapen them.

I would like to collect this line but my main worry is that GG might offer some Con exclusive LOTR mini bust down the road and I might end up missing one or two busts!

I don't think its a might, I'm pretty positive that they will.

that's for sure unfortunately. I also want to buy those but 12" series of SS looks way too cool with that detailed dresses and accessories and I already have 3 exclusives on order. I am also buying the PF SS items and therefore still hesitant to buy.
I mean there will be so much LOTR items in my collection if I buy these busts also.

Still may be I will buy and if in the future I will get so much items, I may sell them I presume. ??

I think they will but hopefully it's some kind of variant when they choose to do this. Also hopefully it will be a SDCC one since I go to that one.

my worry would be a sdcc aragorn varient which is king elessar or a farmir varient where the normal one is ranger & the exclusive is armoured

Don't let the completist in you make the hobby a burden rather than a joy. I agree it would be annoying and dissappointing if they were to offer a key character as only an exclusive. But chances are they won't, it will be a variant of some sort. I guess either way, people will always be mad they didn't get one. There is always eBay if you want it bad enough. Just my .02
