So Karamazov what's the final recipe?
Not final, but right now I'm still going with what I listed on the first page, exchanging the elbow pads I already picked up for Mando's, and with the dyed uniforms of course. I'm happy with the heads, suits, proton packs/traps, and boots I've got. I may eventually get around to trying to repaint the belt, but it sounds like a pain getting around those little studs. Considering moving those tubes over from the Matty suits, as it would be screen inaccurate without them. But, I don't know. I may just leave them off. Belt accessories are the things I haven't really figured out yet.

I need some Evilface decals of course. Just picked up some stands from Toy Anxiety yesterday.

Because of the tubes I'm wondering If I just stick with the Mattel suits. Is there any consensus on water treatment or weathering for them?

Not sure, but you will probably want to try something. In their default state those things are pretty ill-fitting and cheap looking on TT bodies IMO.

The chest pockets are my #1 gripe on the Mattel uniforms. They're just ugly, imo.

If you're even remotely familiar with a needle and thread the tubes are pie to re-attach. They're just stitched on like a button.

Yeah, I saw that they should be pretty simple to apply. I'll probably end up doing it.

Karamazov what's the dyeing ratio? 5 cups water 1 teaspoon dye?
I would think so, but it's hard to say. Through my two rounds of dyeing, I actually used about 5 cups of water and 1/3-1/2 a teaspoon of dye each time (with a dash of salt). So, I'm not sure how the dyeing math works for a single go to get my results.

Not to sound like an expert, but I've dyed X-amount of things over the years, and to be honest there's no real science to it in terms of what ratio equals what shade. There are so many variables that go into it concerning water temperature, the dye itself, the overall quality of the tap water in general, etc. In the end its all eyeball.

But this should help: (there's tips in there incase you dye too dark)

Some great tips there Mando. I was posting in an attempt to assist others with their efforts, but it is true that there are variables I may not be accounting for. The first round I heated up water in the microwave for instance, second round I just used really hot water right out of the faucet (which was actually hotter). And the proportions of dye I used weren't exact. Still, I would say 3/4-1 full teaspoon per 5 cups would be my formula if I were to do it again.

I rinsed my suits just under the tap for a few seconds, and dried them in the clothes dryer.

Soooo here's the choice I'm facing. $30 a piece for knock off TT's, or $50 a piece for legit TT's. I will be using the Mattel gloves so the difference in hands matters not. I'm thinking the name brand and stands make the legit TT's a better deal. I just hate to feed the beast...

If you wait they will be 20.00 again and the new ones are pretty good I have 2 of them and they are pretty close to the real thing now you could get all 4 for 80.00 or 2 for 100.00 to me it's worth saving the money but its all preference

Slp, do you have a link to one of the newer KOs? I have a couple of the first gen ones left, and would like to try out the newer ones. The first gen ones aren't great, but you can improve them by tightening up some screws.

I think they are listed at 29.99 now it says new version on the pic they usually start them at 19.99 and progressively go up til they hit 50.00 then they go back down and by they I mean headplay a d new ones are much better the color is better and the pegs are compatible with hot toys don't get me wrong they are not as good as the real thing but for 20.00 they are great the only downside is they don't come with a stand but I personally like the ones with the name plate any way just use the money you save to get one sorry for the long message kinda drunk and typing with my phone and sorry in no condition to try and post a link just search narrow shoulder body should come up

Guys can't recommend the Kumik bodies highly enough. They are a little pale in colour, but well made, tight and at $20-24 a steal. They also match all HT hand, foot pegs and neck adapters.

Also if anyone is chasing flight suits. Monkey Depot has them for $9.99, free shipping. I picked up 4 last night.

i wanted to share my custom venkman...
-its a snyderman head on a narrow shoulder, i removed part of the ankle cause i thought he was too tall, and his pants were too short.
-mattel proton pack and gloves, and belt accessories
-soldier story web belt
-soldier story jumpsuit with patches from one sixth king, and tube from mattel suit
-german falshimjiggerwhatever boots

just waiting on mando's elbow pads, but until then i worked out someplace holders using the knee pads i linked to earlier in the thread

and of course getting the head painted, but saving the best for last...:wink1:

Thats coming along great! :clap

I need to take back my earlier statement, as not all of the tubes sew on like buttons. Egon's does, and I'd Ray's does as well since he was first, but Winston's hose is attached via a plug glued into the hose port from the other side of the pants. Haven't taken it off yet. Just wanted to update though, as its not as easy as the sewn-on hose.

Alternatively, for those not using the suits you don't have to get all four indivual Ghostbusters. With the exception of Ray's goggles (which Rocco's sculpt has), and Egon's PKE Meter all the gear is the same. Pete and Winston come w/ "exclusive" items but they're forgettable to say the least. That might bring the overall cost down for some.

This is looking amazing. I ordered e snyderman sculpt. Actually I'm using Spenser's egon, zendemore and Rocco's ray and snydermans Peter. Although I got full sets from each. I may paint them all up and mix and match accordingly.

My one gripe is with the pant leg length. Did you dye the jumpsuit and machine dry it? Maybe that's why it's short? What body are you using?

I realized that my jumpsuits were still too brownish for my liking, after looking at some scenes on my Blu Ray. Their suits do appear to be different colors in different scenes. Even within scenes--during Venkman's first run-in with Peck it looks brown, then more gray, then more brown again. But usually, and particularly during the scenes at the Hotel Sedgewick and the showdown with Gozer (the most important scenes where they wear the suits IMO) they look pretty grayish. Even if this isn't the "true" color of the fresh suits, it is what they appeared to be on the screen, and that's what I really want on the shelf. So, another round!

Unfortunately, the dye didn't apply itself uniformly to all the suits for some reason this time around. So, some look dirty in a few places. But I don't really mind that. After all, the suits were pretty dirty and slimed looking most of the time they appeared on screen. I might be done with these now, but I've thought that before. . .

Looking good! To Wake, the Soldier Story jumpsuit is a bit shorter on Venkman than I would like, but if you watch the scene right after they defeat Mr. Stay Puft, his pant legs are up a bit high off the ground, which is pretty close to the way these jumpsuits look on him.
