Honestly after GBTVG, I really feel the way to go is Pixar like animation with a story set in the early 90's with younger versions of the guys, and them just doing the voice work.

Yeah, my excitement would be seriously muted without Murray's involvement. But really, I don't expect this to be very good if/when it happens anyway. Not that it matters much. The original is always gonna be one of my all-time favorite films, no matter what.
That's how I deal with all the ____ty Muppets products produced over the last 20 years.Worse comes to worst, we can just pretend this one doesn't exist.
Hard to believe it’s nearly two years since I told you how frustrated DAN AYKROYD phoned old pal/“Ghostbusters” co-star BILL MURRAY – who kept blocking the long-awaited remake with snarky script complaints – and snapped: “Stop acting like a jerk!”
NEW SCOOP: Murray just made like a jerk encore…and now it’s OVER! To recap: Aykroyd, Murray, SIGOURNEY WEAVER and HAROLD RAMIS had all agreed to rebirth “Ghostbusters III” – but Murray, who’s got script approval, kept refusing to take producers’ phone calls after they’d send rewrites.
Then, after they sent him the latest reworked screenplay weeks ago, Murray fired back his shocking answer – nailing the coffin shut forever – by sending Dan and Harold a box containing the new script SHREDDED into confetti, along with this nasty note: “No one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts!”
Insiders say furious Dan and Harold vow that Bill’s off their “who ya gonna call” list forever – and they’ll make the movie WITHOUT him!
Murray was willing to run around and play Ghostbuster with the cast of Zombieland for a few scenes. That must have really p-ssed off Aykroyd and Ramis.
https://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=33126"If we can get the script to Ghostbusters 3 right, then it would definitely have Moranis as a major component. None of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant."
Even more intriguingly, Aykroyd hinted that Bill Murray may not return as Peter Venkman, and that the character could be played by a different actor, a la Jack Ryan.
"The script must be perfect. We cannot release a film that is any less than that. We have more work to do."
Vague, granted, but there you go. As for the internet rumour that Murray recently shredded a Ghostbusters 3 script and sent it back with a note that said, "No-one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts", Aykroyd denied it with vigour.
"Bill Murray is not capable of such behaviour. This is simply something that would not be in his nature. We have a deep, private personal relationship that transcends business. We communicate frequently and his position on the involvement in Ghostbusters 3 has been made clear and I respect that. But Bill has too much positive estimation of my writing skills to shred the work."
