For me, I like going on opening day because that is usually when the die-hard fans will be there and SOMETIMES that "nerd energy" makes the experience even better... Not always, but sometimes...

Ahhh yes, like the Klingon "sword fight" I once witnessed at the opening of Star Trek 5, which got out of hand and turned into a fist fight and arrests were made ....yes, I will be there now that i think of it.

I think a lot of us would see it if Hasbro starts releasing the TV show on DVD and includes a free movie ticket. :lol

While I don't mind the applause, shouts at cool moments, etc, my recent experiences with opening night, TDK, Iron Man, The Punisher, Rambo, etc., are usually full of seat-kickers, yappers, texters, screamers, popcorn smackers and usually smells of the horrifically notorious hot dog burp! It's a shame I find myself more often than not, threatening physical violence just to enjoy a movie I paid half of it's DVD price to enjoy. I'm beginning to think the 10pm show Sunday night on opening weekend is really the best time to ENJOY a movie.

RHINO no longer has the DVD rights to the cartoon. That's why it stopped with Season 2, Volume 1.

Someone else may have already picked up the rights (can't recall for sure) but they may start all over anyway. :(

Well that blows big donkey dong. I remember laughing at my friend for him having to continuously buy different versions of the same DBZ DVDs because Funimation couldn't make up it's damn mind about anything. Looks like Karma's returning the favor. :( :lol

For me..it is the cheap matinee on a weekday. Fewer people and I can concentrate on the movie and get better seats. And if the movie sucks, I can at least take comfort in the knowledge that I did not pay full price for it.

Just looking at yr Avatar mate, and wondering whether the same thoughts yr having about the Joe movie were going through yr head during the build up to the TF effort?
:monkey3

Cheers,
Doug

I was worried at a time, very worried in fact, until I saw the trailer. It snowballed into "This is pretty damn win!" from there.

This movie, though...Yeah, I gave up hope already when Lorenzo "Bat nipples" BiNoventura announced that he would be producing this movie.

Looks like GI JOE is back to being "A REAL AMERICAN HERO" Apparently HASBRO is having changes made!

Message to G.I Joe Fans

Hasbro’s G.I. Joe Team wanted to take this opportunity to clarify some of the facts regarding the G.I. Joe live-action movie that we are developing with Paramount Pictures.

First and foremost, we are not changing what the G.I. Joe brand is about. The name “G.I. Joe” will always be synonymous with bravery and heroism.

The G.I. Joe brand has enjoyed a successful 43-year history, spanning two key generations. The first was the line of 12-inch “realistic military” figures that were popular with kids in the 1960s and 1970s.

The second generation, was created in 1982, and is based on a cast of fictional heroes and villains that make up the “G.I. Joe vs. Cobra” fantasy. The premise of this fantasy is the story of the G.I. Joe team, led by Duke, and their “fight for freedom wherever there is trouble” against the evil Cobra Commander and his Cobra force. This storyline was an instant hit with kids in the early 1980s, spawning a highly popular 3-3/4-inch action figure line, comic book collection and animated series.

This movie will be a modern telling of the “G.I. Joe vs. Cobra” storyline and its compelling characters that Hasbro created 25 years ago. The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the “Pit” as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established.

G.I. Joe is a very important property to Hasbro and we thank all of our fans for their enthusiasm. Without all of you, the brand would not be where it is today.

Not a spin, they decided early on to have it a multi-cultural team that is based out of the Pit in the US. I think they dropped the "operating out of Brussels" thing VERY early on.

EDIT: .....*Facepalm*

Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) tells EW that he did not insist that Sienna Miller's breasts be enhanced for his forthcoming action movie G.I. Joe. A widely circulated news story quotes the British actress (pictured, in G.I. Joe) as saying that, in the film, she wears, "a tight black leather outfit. And much bigger boobs.... They gave me these things that looked like chicken fillets. The director said, 'I'm gonna be honest, I like girls with big boobs,' and I don't have them so we made them bigger.... At least he's honest. But I was mildly offended." Sommers says he was aware of the story –- we suppose you could say he kept abreast of the situation -– but claims it is untrue. "Everybody here laughed because they know I would NEVER say that to an actress," says the filmmaker. "I guess the costume department gave her a tight fitting bra, but no one gave her rubber breasts or whatever. It is 100 percent Sienna Miller."

Sommers adds that G.I. Joe, which also stars Dennis Quaid and features a cameo from his Mummy star Brendan Fraser, was partly inspired by the Sean Connery-era James Bond movies. "I always loved the old Bonds," he says. "It's funny now how Bond wants to be Bourne. I loved Quantum of Solace, but it was like, man, this is a completely different movie to the Bonds I grew up with. In a very contemporary way, G.I. Joe is inspired by the memory of the kind of movies I saw when I was younger. I remember being in the theater for Thunderball and the big underwater battle at the end of that movie just blew my socks off. In G.I. Joe, there's an underwater battle under the polar icecap that's Thunderball times 10!"

Good news in a movie that seems surrounded by bad news :lol.

The newest issue of ToyFare has an interview with Ed Verreaux who confirms some good news about Snake Eyes:

"He doesn't talk at all, doesn't say a word throughout the whole movie. It's all gesture."

Glad to hear about that at least. Unfortunately the movie's based around Duke and Ripcord joining the Joe team...so much for continuity. :lol

What do you mean by that?... They were later additions to the team in the 1980's comic version.

The pit is in the middle of the middle eastern desert, Bazooka's jersey is actually hanging in the locker room (wasn't he turned down due to weight?!) and there are a few more things like the Joes having power suits ("it was this balance between Iron Man & RocoCop" - direct reference from the interview) - gay. Additionally, with Marlon playing Ripcord and him being a main focus of the story tells me he has a lot of screen time. Can you tell me when the last time he carried a good movie was?

This movie sounds better all the time, I wonder if they'll hire a duet of Bjork and Sting to sing the theme song!

Yes, I'm not talking about that. Your reference is to Duke and Ripcord joining the team and in part at least that follows the 80's comic as they were not original members.

What stands out most from the TOYFARE article is the answer Ed Verreaux (production designer) gives to the all important question Were you familiar with the Joe mythology?

Very little. What I usually do is, I'll go to my local comic book store and say, "Give me everything you have on this subject." I also went online. There are a lot of G.I.Joe sites. It's really, really popular.

:banghead Glad it's not people making decisions who actually grew up playing with the toys, reading the comic books, watching the Saturday morning cartoon-- Glad it's decision makers who researched over a weekend.

It's Michael Bay all over again as he knew nothing about Transformers before being offered the movie--- and yes, I liked his version but it wasn't the nostalgic live-action movie that I've wanted since '84 and my favourite character (check my sig) looked (and still does) like a robotic chicken.

It will be interesting to see what it opens against and what beats it.
