Dammit people! Don't you realize that this is Marlon Wayans breakout role? Mark my words, Wayans + GI Joe = Oscar. You heard it here first.

But he already got a Golden Globe for White Chicks... I think an Oscar is reaching a little.

The trailer looked pretty cool, but no Cobra Commander. Is he even in this damn movie?

It's public knowledge that CC is in the movie...what insiders have said is that for the first movie, Destro will mostly be portrayed as the "face" of COBRA...with a big reveal of Cobra Commander as the true leader most likely during the climax.

It's one of those things where you know he is there, but they don't want to show him to give it away...much like Heath Ledger's Joker.

Are those Cobra Vipers doing flips and such? Sad. I am looking forward to the Snake-Eyes/Storm Shadow fights.

Destro does have his mask, he'll probably put it on some time in the movie or it will be shown.

Yeah, I'm not to sure what hamma was thinking with her last name. Food for thought, not only was Snake eyes cobra commanders "brother" in all but blood before he became cobra commander, Baroness also blamed Snake eyes for killing her father and brother. she was wrong, she simply found him holding a gun over the bodies, after dispatching their attackers. It was the whole reason for her joining Cobra.

Snake Eyes and Cobra Commander were never "brothers".

Cobra Commander's brother and Snake-Eyes' family (parents and sister) were killed in the same car accident. This was pre-GI Joe/pre-Cobra for the both.

CC (still before Cobra) would later try to get Firefly...and later Zartan to kill Snake Eyes (bitterness over the accident that killed his brother).

Devil's Due updated it a little further:

Devil's Due Publishing also introduced new elements into Snake-Eyes' past during their Snake-Eyes Declassified mini-series. These changes show more of the motivation of Cobra Commander's attempt to kill Snake-Eyes while training to become a ninja. Snake-Eyes was revealed to have had a prior encounter with Cobra Commander (prior to him becoming Cobra Commander). Cobra Commander befriended Snake-Eyes and sought to recruit him into a plot to murder a judge. The judge in question had wrongfully convicted Cobra Commander's older brother of arson and insurance fraud, resulting in the ruin of his brother's life and causing him to spiral downward into alcoholism and ultimately the drunken car accident that claimed both his life and the lives of Snake-Eyes' parents and twin sister. Snake-Eyes agreed to go along with Cobra Commander, but at the last minute refused to go along with the plan. Cobra Commander would kill the judge and swear revenge against Snake-Eyes, resulting in him hiring Firefly (who in turn subcontracted Zartan behind Cobra Commander's back to pull off the hit) to kill Snake-Eyes while he was training in the Arashikage Clan.

They've stated in Devil's Due GI Joe that "DeCobray" is very well a possible alias.

Just watched the TV spot - what a piece of ^^^^. From what I've seen I can't spot a single redeeming thing beyond the Baroness' outfit. I rank this with the Jean Claude Van Damme version of Street Fighter.

"brothers" not in the literal sense, but in a more close friend type sense. i read those devils due comics, and there is quite a bit more to it than what is said in that wiki post. they spend close to 6 months becoming very close friends, and operating in a robin hood type system, wherein the steal from the wealthy and over-privilege, and give back to those less fortunate. All this builds to Cobra commander and Him breaking into the judges home while the judge is there, and Snake eyes subsequent refusal to help the future commander kill the judge. Commander takes thsis as an "ultimate betrayal" of his truset, and his friendship with Snake eyes falls apart. Slowly this turns to hate, and the subsequent accidental contract killing of Hardmaster.

After this is revieled, Cobra conder starts to refer to Snake eyes as "old friend" and "brother". It was a neet twist, and I rather liked it.

Looks good, not great but good enough. I don't get why everyone is crucifying this movie based on pics and a 15 second teaser. What would make you guys happy? what would make this movie "serious" for you guys? Magic weather altering machines? Have Stormshadow find Excalibur to defeat the Joes? Have Cobra try to recreate dinosaurs in order to rule the world?

Look this movie isn't meant to be a "saving private Ryan" or a "band of brothers" it's a popcorn movie based on TOYS. Quit your whining and go back and play with your 3/4 Joes on your living room carpet.

Those'd be massive. What blow up dolls did you play with as a kid?:lol:rotfl:lol

You know what I meant hahahahah:rotfl

True. :lol

But, take this from someone who grew up reading the comics (#1 through to #70+ before it started to go in the direction of things that you stated-- and they were just one toy commercial after another), what we've been presented with is nothing like what I enjoyed and therefor as I don't recognize it as G.I.Joe I'm going to have to point out what I don't like in this "re-imagining" from admitted non-fans of the 80's comic.

I'd be happy with the way it looks, my problem is not that, i don't even mind that they've taken some liberties with some of the characters, My concern is that they've SO DRAMATICALLY re-invented the characters history, completely throwing out such huge chunks. This can be good or bad, it's just that the histories they're writing sound kinda... poor. I don't mind the nanomachine super terrorist plot. or making the Joe team a global initive, as opposed to an American team. It's just.... It' so very different from what we know.

I've got alot of hope that I'll be wrong, and it will work, but I also suspect i'll be let down. My opinion is not based on the costume designs, I know hollywood is all over the black leather and body-armor stchict. that's fine. the action looks fun as well. It's got potential, but I'm not sure it will live up to it. some things in the GIjoe mythos that should not be changed.

Baroness is an eastern European.
James Destro is a Scottish nobleman, and an international arms dealer.
Snake Eyes is mostly unable to speak, he has however, on some occasions said the name of the woman hi is madly in love with Scarlet.
Scarlet and Snake eyes love each other, and have a relationship.
Baroness and Destro Love each other.
Cobra Comander is mildly insane
Roadblock is a Gourmet Chef
Snake eyes and stormshadow are both members of the same Ninja clan, however snake eyes was adopted into it.
Storm shadow's loyalty to cobra is based SOLY upon finding out who it was that assassanated the Hard Master. He regaurds snake eyes as his spiritual brother, regardless of finding themselves on opposite sides from each other.

the list goes on, but those are just a few off of the top of my head. If you've never read the comics, i strongly encourage you to track down some torrents, download them and read them. they were much much better than the cartoon ( and i still love the cartooon) but the stories in the comics hold up much better over time.

GI Joe was a toy line I played with as a kid. I enjoyed it for what it was and spent plenty of time setting up elaborate missions for the Joes to undertake. I also read some of the earlier comics and watched the cartoon. I'm by no means a hardcore fan and as of today I own no Joe items, though I know plenty about the early mythos (Hard/Soft Master, CC's attempted assassination at the hands of his son, etc.). Regardless it still holds a place in the pillar of my childhood playtime before Nintendo came along and changed everything.

That being said, regardless of my affinity or nostalgia for those days, the movie still looks like a steaming pile. Even if it weren't called GI Joe I would still think it looks like ^^^^. I'll watch it on video or cable, but won't pay to see it in the theater. I'll even look at it with a critical eye because I love film, but my initial impression still stands and I doubt it'll change. (Marlon Wayans - seriously?)

preview looks good....can't wait to see a Premium Format for these characters...

Still going to see and enjoy it for what it is...mindless entertainment. Anyone who goes to see GI Joe expecting Citizen Kane is a pretentious ****** in serious need of a comeuppance. All these fanboys really need to get a life and realize that GI Joe is made for kids, not 30 year old losers debating the artistic merits of a movie based on a toy line.

Not asking for Citizen Kane, just a movie that respects 25 years of established characterization.

Trailer looks kind of cool - love Eccleston and Quaid. Looks no worse than Transformers anyway.

That's what I thought... it reminded me of how I felt when I saw the Transformers ad the first time. I was expecting it to totally suck.. but it looked pretty decent. And I once I did see TF, I thought it was an ok movie that was fun to go and see...

So seeing that preview really made me rethink my early bashing of this movie, they might not totally butcher it afterall. It won't be what I wanted it to be, but it still looks good enough to go and try to enjoy.
