Let's put it this way. I think this movie will suck more than the girls at Vivid Video but watching the spot with my friends who are admittingly less fanboy than I they all loved it. Although the only character they could recognize is The Baroness. When I told them Christopher Eccleston was Destro, the response I got was "Where is his silver head?" :lol

The action will appeal to mass audiences but once they realize what its supposed to be unless they actually put some of that source back in it'll be question marks all over again.

Yeah, but she'll be covered in stupid black armor and getting hit on by Marlon Wayans the whole time.

You like hot red heads? Just throw in the BEASTMASTER dvd. :lol

Yeah but the dream is broken when you see her now. Don't get me wrong she is still a good looking woman. Just not the same. :lol

I'll see it too (out of morbid curiosity, as much as anything)... but I'm buying the ticket to see something else.

I must be misunderstanding this post. Are you openly stating that you intend to go theater-hopping?:horror

:D

I'm not expecting a great movie. But I sure as @@$#% wasn't expecting crap, let alone this which is arguably worse than the TNT Hulk Hogan movies. And having expectations on par with Transformers isn't unreasonable since not only Hasbro was involved in every step of the journey, but apparently Larry Hama as well. All I'm expecting is that a movie which calls itself G.I. Joe and is being marketed, again, almost exclusively to the hardcore Joe fans (why bring in Hama if it's not?!), to be a little more faithful to it's roots and not blatantly and admittedly rip off other properties such as Iron Man. Apparently, to you, that's too much to ask? :huh

Then I guess the person to be pissed at would be Larry Hama. I do get your point, believe me this franchise is near and dear to my heart. I just know the director and I'm familiar with his product so I have lower than low expectations. I myself would rather see a movie about the origins of Snake Eyes. No, I don't expect Stephen Sommers to be faithful to GI Joe's roots. Did he respect the mummy's roots or Van Helsing's. Garbage in, garbage out. You don't understand that I am agreeing with all who say its a pile of ****. I'm saying how could you expect more? The only choice left is whether or not to see it.

:D
Absolutely.

And it wouldn't be the first time, either.

A couple of years ago I made a promise to myself that I will never give my money to movies like this directly. I can't even remember what movie it was (95% of "big" movies have been such drek for so long now) but I actually remember walking out of some "fun, Summer popcorn flick" and literally feeling like an ^^^^^^^ for contributing a penny to its box office. Because, afterall, that's how/why these damn things get made the the way they do in the first place. Hollywood has no balls. But neither does Joe Sixpack. They want to watch the same recycled crap over and over.

I probably won't buy a ticket for TRANSFORMERS, either... but I'll see it, too.

Its really pretty foolish to think that a movie based on an 80's cartoon could actually be "good" in the first place. Comics at least have a lot of history and backstory to pull from, but something like this seems a lot harder to do a good job of translating into live action. And as always; the changes made piss off the original fans and the uninitiated have no idea why they would want to see a GI-Joe (insert other interchangeable bad idea flicks) in the first place.

These seem to do best when the strike right in the middle at people who are mildly interested and don't really care if the movie is a turd.

See, that's where you and others (obviously the filmmakers) have gotten some of us wrong. We didn't want a live action JOE RAH film based on the campy cartoons (or the cruddy Devil's Due comics) at all. We wanted something more in common with the original Marvel Comics written by Larry Hama, which were 10x better than the cartoon. You know, something with solid characters, grit, tense plot-lines and actual military stuff.

In other words, something like the upcoming G.I. JOE: RESOLUTE animated project... which will be immeasurably closer to what we wanted.

Trust me, Hama's original JOE comics were actually much more "real world" than this latest POS Stephen Sommers crap-sandwich.

James Cameron would have been awesome. The movie would have killer action and humorous parts that would actually be funny.

Watched the trailer last night a couple of times and paused a few frames, NOTHING I saw reminded me of GI Joe. The Baroness and Snake Eyes were a bit closer to their roots, but not close enough. The super suit somersaults in the streets to avoid missiles was f&%#n' stupid looking. I guess everyone in GI Joe is now a freakin' master martial artist like Snake Eyes?
They couldn't even make the Cobra Troops look anything remotely like their classic depictions, at least put them in blue colored BDUs.

Then I guess the person to be pissed at would be Larry Hama.
Nope. Ya can't blame him.
This was a report from the last GI Joe Convention with Hama as guest speaker:
11:48- Hama did rip the movie guys about directions they wanted to go, and they listened to him when they could.
I think he's being a bit discreet with his feelings about the movie.

The Eiffel Tower and the slow-mo lineup walking towards the camera in the trailer reminded me of Team America. I guess the irony of the movie was lost on the writers and director. :lol

Showing Baroness with a major wonderbra on first thing in the teaser just shows you this film has nothing else and will suck.

I mean that is nice at all, but I can go to the mall and see that.

Meh. To be honest, I think the trailer looked kinda cool. I think if they had renamed it BPIBC (Beautiful People In Black Clothes) it might be getting more buzz.

True, I'm really thinking more of other 80's cartoons that didn't have much follow-up. But you are right, if they had followed other stuff the movies could have been good.

the worst part is i think hasbro has plans to try to turn this into a movie franchise....

I do not see that happening. not without a serious retcon.

What are the odds we get a film entrance into the SSC 1/6 universe? It wouldn't be part of the standard line but do you think that SSC even planned to do one or two offerings maybe in PF form even?

I'd buy a christopher eccelson destro, but that's all.

ok, i might get a storm shadow as well.. Been a sucker for ninjas lately.

I think Michael Bay did a well enough job, *and* it was actually evident from the first trailer. TF2 looks to be even better. But when you get down to it GI Joe is a team of super badasses who fight a legion of high tech terrorists. Forget there were toys and just use the classic 80's/90's template of Predator, Top Gun, Aliens, The Rock, True Lies, and so on of over-the-top action, charismatic actors, and classic one-liners. That's really all you need. Well that and a director who doesn't create a cinematic disaster every time he gets behind a camera.

Still not digging the mouth on Snake Eyes

There's a first! :rotfl

(insert Team America theme):

"G.I. Joe...%&@# NO!"

Exactly. Don't take a generic action flick full of blatant Hollywood ripoff, label it as a franchise a majority of us grew up on, then market it to us and expect us to be happy with the bastardized results... Seriously though, the trailer is nothing more spectacular than what the WB would do for a lame-assed Justice League TV show spin off of Smallville.
