Cobra Commander turned out to be a manipulative and increasingly frightening Bad Ass, Zartan is in like Flynn, and Destro is pissed and ready to take revenge. What more could you ask for? That the outfits match the toys that were released back in the 80's? That the movie had the same dialogue as the comics written years ago and probably outdated by today's standards?

:lol :lol :lol at the dialogue part. What could possibly be any worse than what was in this movie already? "You almost got killed. You have a right to be concerned."

But to answer your questions: NO. I would simply have settled for a movie with a decent script, solid performances, and a good director. 3 strikes and out on this one.

But, hey, to hell with any sense of artistic merit at all! It has lots of action and FX all over the place and is selling toys to today's kids who have little to no imagination on their own. So I guess that makes it a success? :huh

Despite reading "Its great!" or "It wasn't as bad as I thought!" or even "Its alright..."

I still can't bring myself to see this. With District 9 coming out on Friday I won't have to worry too much.

:lecture :lecture :lecture

Although I trust no sane person would ever even bother to compare the two films in any way.

Also, you know what the best special/makeup effect in the film is? That they made Sienna Miller look like she has nice, full breasts.

Seriously, I don't know if the credit should go to wardrobe (for wonderbra type applications), the prop guys (for prosthetics) or the FX guys (no way they're digital :lol) but good on ya, whoever pulled that off. :clap

I think I may see this (D-9) on opening night. I thought it opened before this Friday, but I guess it only opens Thursday (8/13), and I don't know if that means midnight Friday morning. I will definitely see District 9 by this weekend though. GI Joe will suffer in any ticket sales for those shared show times, no doubt. D-9 just looks fricking awesome. it's weird how the tone of that movie (from the previews) seems to have a feel of today's social/political aura. The tension is tangible, and that's just in the previews. Can't wait.

While this has probably already been posted, I figure I'd post it again.

GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra earned an estimated $100 million worldwide despite negative buzz and reviews and surpassed studio expectations domestically, earning $56.2 million stateside. This mean one thing - a sequel is already in development.

Paramount Picture’s vice chairman, Rob Moore, confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that a sequel “will soon go into development.”

According to the report, all of the movie’s lead actors are “contractually obligated to return for another film,” though director Stephen Sommers is not.

As for the District 9 thing, the previews really have me psyched and with Inglorious Basterds cming out the week after I'm sure GI Joe will be but a memory. At least for me.

Saw G.I. Joe Sunday night. Overall thought it was great. Wasn't keen on the Baroness switching sides and I'd prefer if they had kept Snake Eyes silence due to his heroism and not a vow of silence.

My wife thought it was good and she has no prior knowledge of G.I. Joe.

My wife saw it with me also, and she said it sucked, again had nothing to do with Joe history and everything to do with piss poor acting and dialogue.

Vow of silence???? So he doesnt speak by choice and not because of injury? Lame. . . .
well, they couldnt make him a vietnam survivor now could they, he would then be 60 ish years old now so some things HAD to change if they made it in near present day timeframe...

You're right, you can only get injured like that in Vietnam.

have you not been reading some of the posts in this thread???

I've been trying not to. :lol

To me, changing the fundamental nature of the character is more of an offense than modifying when the events of a character's backstory happened to keep it modern.

i agree...but i'm not a super Joe historian/fan. and yes, they should've left it as he was unable to speak due to an injury not by choice.
As a Star Wars fan, I find this remark offensive. No one, no one is worse than we are at ^^^^^ing and moaning. ;)
i know right?? nobody can take that trophy from us.
