I really wish Gentle Giant hadn't done such a half-assed job on their "Classics" busts of the hobbits. I'm thinking they would be around the right size, but the likenesses are not great...

I don't recall Meatloaf ever playing a Hobbit?!?!

Let alone, Alicia Silverstone?! WTF?!

And no Pix. Those look more like vomit stains from someone after viewing these sculpts.

Are there differences in size between the stands for the human characters versus the hobbits? And am I correct in assuming that the ideal elven cloaks would be the ones that came with Aragorn and Legolas, size-wise?

All SS stands are the same in size. As for the elven cloaks, I think the longer one probably looks better than the hobbit version. Problem is that they are more difficult to locate loose. Whereas the hobbit ones are relatively easy to find and the hobbit one hangs on Gimli about the same as a longer one hangs on Legolas.

Hey, couldn't we use the McFarlane Lost Charlie figure's head as a basis for Pippen, up-size it a bit and swap over SSC's Frodo wig? Not sure what we could use for Merry, though.

Doesn't work that way I'm afraid for a variety of reasons. New sculpts are required.

All those GG sculpts are bad but Sam is by far the worst.

Just got the chain mail in today. Easy modification. When I can catch Pix online again, I'll give him the speil on how to fix it so that you can actually cut off the hands without it unraveling. Now all that's left is paint...

So the parts list is as follows: ToyBiz "soft" head and helm. Body is the modified DiD as are the clothes, harness and weapons. Soldier Story ODA Team Leader fat suit. The shoulder armor, gauntlets and boots belong to the ToyBiz rotocast Gimli. The chain mail Hauberk is from an IGNITE 1/6 Knight Hospitaller 2 and Sideshow Frodo's Lothlorien cloak with elven broach. Overall, he's not perfect, but not to shabby either.

Thanks Nam! I've ordered that exact chainmail and fat-suit. I have the DID and the roto is on the way. Now all I need is the Toybiz 'soft' (and a Frodo or Sam Elven cloak...toyanxiety is sold out :monkey2) and I can get my Gimli to look like that!

:rock

Suit yourself. I got the DiD cloak for Gimli and it's a nice piece of work.

It is tempting for sure, and the price is right. I've seen some images in this thread of Gimli with that DID cloak and it looks pretty good. Thanks for the heads-up...hope I didn't come across as unappreciative.

:banana

Thanks Falcon, That's for the DID one...I was sort of hoping to get one from the Sideshow Sam or Frodo, so it matches the longer one's I got with Legolas and Boromir...

I'm with you on wanting all the elven cloaks to match.

Actually, my DiD Gimli didn't come with a cloak.

Thanks for the kind words, but Pix is doing all the work and a majority of the other freaks came up with all the other parts. So GROUP THANKS!!!! :lol

Yeah, there's no cloak with DID Gimli, you can purchase a set of attire from Frodo or Sam DID on Ebay right now that has a cloak...Different colour and texture than the SS Elven cloaks, but at least it has the brooch.

Agreed. Pix, Kuzeh, Nam, etc., all you guys are doing some inspiring things with your Gimli customs. Huge props to pix for his ongoing tutorial! :rock

When I put the DiD elven cloak on Gimli it seems to fit his larger frame perfectly. I was worried that the SS Sam/Frodo cloak would be just a tad too short given the size of the hobbits they were designed for. I don't have them to compare at the moment. :duff
