Great video!:lol

OK, finally..... ready to build GIMLI.

Yeah, I know, I fell wayyyyyyy behind after getting everything so early on.

I have all the tutorials...but one thing I'd like to know is what's the best way to attach the Toybiz head to the DiD body?

Pix, thenam, Dwing...? Any help would be appreciated.

I gonna cut the midsection out of the DiD now, so I figured I should set up the new "head peg" or whatever while I'm at it.

Just castrate :)horror) the neck post on the DiD body so its just just a strait post and scrape a bit out of the inside of the TB head. Thats how I did it. (Make sure you boil the TB head really well because that ball joint on the TB body is fragile and a pain in the butt to carve out of the Gimli head if it busts).

Gimli? That's sooo last month. :lol

I used epoxy putty (my weapon of choice for many projects) to attach the head. It worked quite well (still has articulation and so forth) but I imagine others will have suggestions that might be easier.

:lol

Thanks guys!

I know I'm late to getting to this, considering I started this bloody thread. :)

Anyway, this cracking the shell of the DiD chest is a biyatch. I got the midsection off -- but I can't for the life of me get the chest to separate. I've got two nice holes under the chest piece now where my screwdriver fits nicely, but I just push plastic...the seams won't crack. SUCKS!

As you can see, got the midsection off no prob:

But now I can't split the chest!

I figured just modding the body would take me an hour, but now I'm out of light. Gotta give up for now.

There has to be another way to crack open th body? No?

Maybe I should have just cut the legs. Dammit!

Wor- I drilled out a hole the same size or slightly small than the TB ball and socket neck pin. Cut the opposite end of the socket(right at the ball) and it will fit right into the hole. Cut the smaller of the balls off:monkey3. I added a touch of superglue to hold it in place. It gives you a way to move the head and allow cleance of the cloak.

Neck ball and socket
-pull out of TB neck, may need heat and some prying
-hold SMALL end with plyers and cut off at the LARGE ball

Thanks Dwing! I might try that. Of course, right now I'm a little frustrated with the DiD body.

You just glued the TB head to the DiD neck post -- no modding?

Once I solve my sticky body, I'll give that a look too to see which way I think I can do.

Sent you a PM WG. It definitely takes patience but I believe this method is better than cutting the legs.

I finally had my camera returned, so I took a couple rushed pictures of the Gimli head. Sorry for the crap quality, the lighting stinks and they're a bit blurry which makes the beard resculpt look blobby and rough where it isn't in hand. :( It'll look crisper cast. I'll try to take better ones then.

Stripping the paint was a huge pain and every time I do it I swear it's for the last time. It did uncover some more detail, which was the aim, but doesn't look so pretty in the pics. And this was 2 of my least favourite things to, 1) hair - fluid stuff like fire, water, smoke, hair are always a pain to do and more difficult for me than a likeness, 2) adding to an existing sculpt - adapting what you do to match another's style is a drag. I can only imagine trying to finish an oil painting with the same style and technique as another painter. :duh

Sorry, playing catch up here a bit...

On the boots, did most of you guys use the TB boots or the roto boots?

I only have the TB boots right now, but I haven't removed them from the figure. They're larger than the roto boots I can see, but I seem to remember some problem with them, like they're not hollow or something?

Everything else I think I got under control.

Thanks guys! I'm actually a bit embarrassed by the pics as it's much better in person with clearer detail. I just wanted to get some pics up asap, as it been awhile since I promised to post 'em. And as I said, I had to match the existing style, which is this odd swirly, almost abstract hair style with rough braids, and is not the way I would've chosen to sculpt the beard if starting from scratch.

WG, I think most are using the hollow roto boots, but I've actually started sculpting new ones of those as I'm not happy with either the size or angle at which they are sculpted.

WG, I think most are using the hollow roto boots...

Damn. I was afraid of that. What was the issue with the TB boots?

I still don't have the roto yet. Been looking, and thenam said he'd keep an eye out for me for one, but it looks like those got swallowed up in the rush.

I had planned to just go with the DiD boots, as I kind of like the fact that they're so big -- Gimli had big stompers -- even though they aren't very detailed. Maybe I'll stick with the original plan and just use the DiD boots.

But I'm curious to see what you do with the boots, EC. Please make them a size too large too... I like Gimli to have big feet.

Please do shoulder armor too, as I have a need for those. :)
