Found a couple at Toy Anxiety. Just do a search for fat suit and you'll find a few options. There's the one that comes with the Sideshow Monty Python King figure (presumably the King of Swamp Castle), that's currently in stock.

Yup, but I'm nearing the cut off for orders again. PM sent!

Outstanding!! Lookin' soooo forward to building this figure!

Dug out my DiD Gimli- where after two moves, his dbl bladed axe has gone missing. I remember him dropping it, the axe head snapping off, me going :banghead and "putting it away, to be pinned back together later..."

Damn I hate doing that...

Ok, another round of Gimli heads was sent out today. I'm going to close orders again for now until I get caught up with the outstanding ones. If you've already PM'd me about getting one, you're fine & accounted for.

Also, there was a bit of a hold up with the armor pieces, I want to make sure they're solid and drilling and sanding them has taken a little longer. If you've ordered the shoulder armor, I'm on it, but that's the reason for the delay on those orders. Thanks again to everyone for their patience. :duff

I started this thread: https://sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1540366#post1540366 in the customs section to avoid monopolizing this one and to ease the strain on my PM box a bit.

I'm going against the grain here, but I don't think Gimli was a fatso. A bit hefty perhaps, but not "let's stop at the bakery and get some donuts!"...kind of fellow.

I think that while the fatsuit fills out the DiD tunic quite well, it's because...there's tooooo much fabric!!

A good buddy of mine, whose been collectin' and creatin' w/me for years, had the same thought. So, yesterday, he shows me what he did. Just sewed in the DiD tunic!! A simple solution that makes a heckuva difference! Just the right amount of bulk, without being a donut/burger dwarf!
:D:D

While the movies made Gimli at times a bit of a buffoon (chainmail too big at Helm's Deep, falling off the horse, etc.) especially if you read the books, he is a hard core adventurer. Hacking, slashing, running after Merry and Pippin, there is no way he could be a fatso.

Again, stocky, short and stocky, but a fat donut eater? :horror LOL!

Ain't opinions great? :lol

Actually, Icouldn't agree more! Never quite understood why people thought the fat suit was needed here. Gimli is short and stocky, not fat. In some of the pics, Gimli almost looks slimmer than John Rhys-Davies (must be an illusion). So I did the exact same thing as you with my WIP Gimli custom - extensively altered the DID costume. The too-small Toybiz head is still a problem, but I'm hoping a custom beard will compensate for that a little.

Well, everyone is welcome to their opinion, of course. And that is what makes all these customs so fun!

But personally, my opinion is this. he needs the fat suit. The did body is EXTREMELY thin. and even for someone like aragorn, i'd want it bulked a tiny bit. The fat suits are not exactly pot bellied. The one i ordered is a bit thick throughout. Gives some chest girth, some belly, and even some down the thighs. This is necessary to me. If you watch that scene with the chain mail in two towers, you can see clearly that gimli has.. well.. ^^^^^ tits. Is he a lardo? No. I'm probably fatter. But Davies was NOT that thin when he played gimli either. Even in dwarf scale, he's a big guy. Some of gimli's bulk is muscle, some of it armor, and clothing. But to make him thin, in my opinion, is a mistake.

I'm also going for movie accuracy.. and since gimli could never keep up with the rest of them, he was clearly also out of shape. dwarves are sprinters, remember? :)

Mostly though, my inspirational quote is this:

"Salty Pork????!?!?!?!"

I agree. The fat suit isn't to make the character look fat, it's to give him that powerful, barrel-chested appearance that dwarves are supposed to have. Once you have him in the clothing, the padding smooshes a bit and fills out the empty spaces to give his torso a nice, rounded appearance. He doesn't have a six-pack, but he could crush you to death with a bear hug.

Note that you still need to take in the material of his outer coat, even with the fat suit. I just folded it in at the rear and used the belt to hold the folds in place.

Well, I do agree dwarves need to have that barrel chest, made a couple using the Toy Biz Sabertooth body that way. I hadn't thought to use the fat suit to make his chest, not neccessarily his belly, larger. Have to check out out it looks on the slimmed down DiD tunic. It sure did look good though with the chainmail tunic underneath the slimmed down tunic. Not sure how it'll fit...

I can handle powerful barrel chested...just a fat bellied dwarf I couldn't.

Yeah, dwarves can't keep up w/ Elves and Rangers...but they just keep going and going and going...even if farther behind those two!

hey guys.. i'm gluing my gimli chest back together.. what is the best glue to use? will super glue melt the plastic? I've never glued a 1/6th.. so i wanted to ask first!
Thanks!

Thanks! I grabbed some glue earlier in the days.. and in a few hours, after i had done some chopping and filing.. BOOM.. i had my gimli! He looks great, and i'll try to take some pics sometime soon. I'm just waiting for the head from EC and the shoulder armor as well, and he will be good as gold. I'm SO happy i did this. My first custom, and he looks like he fits in perfectly with the rest of the gang.

Well.. except that slightly darker skin tone.. compared to the pale frodo/sam/gandy.. you know.. and the "i just got back from the tanning salon" boromir/strider/faramir/leggy.

but that is for another time! :) I'm just gonna try my hand at painting that head when it gets here though. Figured it can't hurt! i'm happy with the way my soft toybiz head turned out though, and if i manage to screw up my EC head with horrid paint, i just might leave the old head on. It is very passable.

Thank you again to everyone who worked so hard at perfecting the gimli custom! I am eternally greatful to all of you for your help!

So. When we gonna tackle Merry and Pippin? WE ARE SO CLOSE! :)

Well I have paid EC for the head and shoulder armor, got my DiD Gimli shipped out to me, now I just need the fat suit and mail. So will I still need the roto Gimli or soft Gimli? Anyone else using the DiD Loren cloaks?

I believe you'll still need either the roto or the "soft" version for the gauntlets and boots. They're slightly smaller on the roto, but there's wrist articulation that the "soft" version doesn't have. You really can't go wrong with either one.

I'm actually using the Lorien cloak from an extra Frodo I bought to make a custom Bilbo. It's a little short on Gimli, but still works.

Well my DiD Gimli came yesterday. Now I just have to find the soft and roto Gimlis. Also waiting patiently for EC's head and shoulder armor. I am actually really excited to finally be working on this.

I just display my did Gimili as is, he's not perfect but not bad, and overall the best DID figure.
