Exactly! :hi5:

...and I agree with one of the above posts, the ladder might be a bit much, looks a bit 'forced' IMO. Would look better without. We can all suspend our disbelief as to how Gimli got on that big rock pile for the sake of the art.

This is the perfect description, primarily the exclusive. What makes the other three so great, is how well these bases compliment the statue. However, with Gimli, the base seems to be more of a distraction than complimentary. I wonder if they could have made the base a part of Balin's tomb that he was jumping off of. This statue makes me think of that scene for some reason...

I still love it overall and will order it. I may jump on the exclusive to have it, but display it without.

This turned out great!

Agreed :hi5: Sculpt looks really really good. Tim did a great job on it and it looks like Gimli to me. I love the base and the pose as I think both give a lot of power to a character that has a lot of power. The dead orc is just way way cool and I like the ladder addition it just adds something to the piece for me. I'm not surprised at the price nor do I have a problem with it. Bring on Thursday.

Yeah, a ladder :lol
The trouble is, they're asking more money for this than Aragorn or Legolas, just because there's a bit of rock and a ladder, both of which i'd be happy without. I agree he should be jumping off Balins Tomb if anything, then it'd be a definite buy! But still, the calm expression.... although Gimli is a warrior and he doesn't need to shout, but you just get the impression it would add so much to the statue...
It doesn't grab me at the moment, there's not that special feel to it. I like it from the side, and i have no doubt that in person it will look better. The trouble is, can we afford to pay 250 dollars just to get it in hand to see if we DO like it??

Same here. I will definitely order the exclusive (as I have done with the others so far). But, while I like the dead orc..I don't like how his arm hangs over on to the base, same with the ladder. So, may display it without the orc.

That being said, I am glad they announced it right around the time people are getting Aragorn, as I really want this line to continue.

Price is about what I expected (225 - 250). Par for the course. This is the only line and only pieces I'm buying so it's fine for me.

Great job SS. I am looking forward to adding this brave little dwarf back to my theater room.

I think it adds more than just a ladder.

He's the same price as Gandalf so its not even a high for this line and he's got more base than Aragorn or Legolas. Plus his base is more intricate I think than Legolas or Aragorn. I like the expression Tim went with as I think he's focused and determined. Can't agree that there isn't a special feel to it but that could be just me. I'm getting it so I don't feel I need to pay that to see if I like it based on what I see right now I feel quite confident I will like it.

Ok, I've looked at it some more and the dead orc is starting to grow on me. Still not crazy about the arm laying over the base. But, it does add to the piece.

I'll probably display it with it.

Ok, so we have Aragorn, Gandalf the Grey, Legolas, and Gimli in statue form already..

In the p.f. line we have Gandalf the Grey, Frodo, Legolas, and Aragorn.

I definitely think we will see the full fellowship in statue form before we do in p.f.

And I'll be buying them all (statues). :D

I think the orc will be one of those that as we see pics from say Comic-Con people will appreciate even more. The arm looks cool for me cause the arm just looks as when he was hacked in half the arm just fell back. I feel totally confident that this line will see the Fellowship and many past that.

I love the the concept they tried to go for and the EX piece chosen. I think it is really a must for this piece. However I find the face a "little" inexpressive, as if it didn't suit the action pose. For these reasons and because it is waaaay overpriced, it is a pass for me.

:goodpost::exactly:

I hope they go back to the drawing board and make a screaming portrait! Pretty please, for me?

I went through a ton of screencaps looking to find some where Gimli [in the heat of battle] exhibited much in the way of emotion and this was pretty well all I could find. The fact is there are much more screencaps available portraying Gimli as virtually expressionless than there are screencaps where he shows any form of emotion, so I think the sculpt as is, is a more accurate portrayal of Gimli.

I think he should have a screaming/roaring facial expression. This current expression seems a bit calm for Gimli. A COH would have been a better EX with an angrier face.

Woodsy, that first pic you posted has serious Sideshow eye going on! :rotfl

Perhaps you could post some pics of a calm Gimli fighting? Perhaps when jumping off something too?

I just think this piece needs to invoke something of the 'ARGH let them come! There is one dwarf yet in Moria who still draws breath!' spirit.

Here are some of the numerous screencaps showing Gimli in the heat of battle. He is either swinging, or in the process of swinging his axe in most of these, and clearly he is not shouting, screaming, or showing much in the way of any emotion whatsoever.

FE, I believe you were reading my mind. :lol The 2nd pic. where he's jumping off Balin's tomb should really help.

Yeah, no kidding with the SS eye. Mind you, if anyone gets a Gimli maquette with wonky eyes....SS can just say it's screen accurate. :monkey3 :lol

As I've said before if the expression was screaming I suspect folks would complain the piece was too cartoonish, although I admit I sort of wish for some more expression.

As for the ladder and orc's arms, I too feel something is sacred about the outlines of the base. I get what they are going for and it sort of looks cool (the dead orc, not the ladder) but the additions make the bases look less clean and this was something I really liked about the maquette line's early rollouts. SSW's bases were too haphazard for me giving the pieces a lack of unity. The new gimli sort of violates that spirit. Having said this, the side view really looks fantastic and this is a face I wouldn't mind not seeing as much.
