Yeah that's what I normally assume but Godzilla 2000's English dub was so hilariously ridiculous ("those rockets will fly through Godzilla like s--- through a goose!" lol) that I figured I should ask.

They don't even say ****, they say crap, definitely laughably bad :lol

English dubbed, the screen is hit with a lot of text identifying every politician and piece of equipment, if you add subtitles to that, you miss a lot trying to read the movie instead of watching, English dubbed allows you to take in more of what's going on.

Of the solo Godzilla movies, '54 has the best story, pacing and plot, I'd say then '84 and Shin's is probably the most "boring" of them all, but as jye said, Godzilla himself is a relentless force, everytime you think they've done him in, he comes back with even worse threats and even the end leaves you wondering what more will come of him. It's VERY unique though, unlike any Godzilla before it and likely one like it will never happen again.

That was theatrically the Japanese language version subtitles were fixed for the bluray. Have you been watching the bad version all this time lol

Breakdown:

“The blu-ray has all the Japanese subtitles removed and replaced with English subtitles. During it's U.S. theatrical run, English subtitles were superimposed over the Japanese subtitles, which often made reading them difficult. It also obscured the picture, which was a pity because the cinematography is gorgeous. It also looks like the blu-ray English subtitles are better than the theatrical ones, but it's hard to tell.

Lastly blu-ray's expository subtitles (i.e., place names and descriptions of new character's duties) are displayed above in the picture. In the digital downloads”

I haven't watched it too many times, but I've watched dubbed because the theatrical experience was rough.

I'd say Shin is probably the best solo Godzilla film since the original, it has a really good core story and the way Godzilla develops over the movie keeps things interesting, it's just that the human story is really laborious even if the concept is very good.

It’s a close race between ‘84 and Shin for me, while Shin has a greater point to make with its human story, I would say ‘84 is more cinematic about its human story so it’s more interesting from start to finish, plus the ending of ‘84 is amazing and Shin is a bit anticlimactic with its X-Files-esque ending.

There are cgi shots of Godzilla in Shin that equals KOTM cgi but then holy hell are there some bad ones when he’s firing his lasers lol

It’s when he moves fast that it looks bad.

But when he’s slow and lumbering is when the cgi looks great and he looks menacing as hell.

What’s strange is that Shin moves very slow throughout, so it’s not only CGI quality that looks off but just the sudden, uncharacteristic pace is jarring.

I need to watch this Shin... I want to see the bugged-eyed salamander stalking around.

I wish they'd remake Hedorah -- imagine what they could do with today's CGI. He's like the T-1000 before the T-1000.

One of the best designs ever. I jus thought the movie was booooooring

:exactly:

See for me I got a kick out of watching a super intelligent strict over worked under sexed xenophobic corporate culture with sticks up their butts freaking out over a walking giant nuclear monster especially one as ****ed up looking as Shin lol

Don’t you see the allegory it’s so perfect Shin is as beastly and slow as that culture is bureaucratic.

Shin was their bureaucracy causing destruction to themselves.

His tail literally had their citizens dead from the torment of their own bureaucracy they even had his spines on them

For me that was interesting not boring but I get it for those that were bored.

AMC replaced Godzilla with DP in their Dolby Screens. :gah:

I told you!!!

That's why I went on Tuesday. I saw that all my theaters were dropping GKOM from Dolby auditoriums for DP after only one week. But then you said you were going on Friday and I figured that New York must have just had more options, lol.

Ha, I suppose not. But it was a fun enough two hours and I'm glad to have caught it in a premium auditorium before Dark Phoenix and Secret Life of Pets knock it to the smaller screens this Friday.

The new Terminator trailer felt even sillier on the big screen.

See jye, see??? I warned you on Tuesday! lol

That's why I had gone to the IMAX last weekend. I would have gone to the Dolby Cinema, but they only had one showing in the middle of the day. I wonder if that might have been why the IMAX wasn't really better than the standard theater, if it was only there for a week maybe they figured it wouldn't be worth doing more than a simple up-res.

Which is so lame since Dark Phoenix looks like a low budget early 2000's superhero flick filmed at the end of my driveway. GKOM was made for premium auditoriums.

Goodbye Godzilla.......

After how low it sunk over the years? Really?

I think to the mass audiences of America, yes, Godzilla ranks lower than Adam West Batman as far as I can tell, it's perceived as cheesy, dubbed, fake looking man in suit movies not worth your time.

Despite continuity issues and such, X-Men is still a brand name that means something for a wider range.
