In DBZ, Goku dies twice but he sacrifices himself willingly on both occasions. The first time is holding Raditz and the second is when he uses instant transmission to teleport an exploding Cell off Earth.

I know who Goku is, but not really anything about him, but your summary does make him sound like an Asian rip off.

Speaking from personal experience, anyone who grew up watching cartoons in the 90's should be very familiar with both characters, and barring further exposure to whatever DBZ has done since then, would consider them very evenly matched.

Although, Goku vs Green Lantern might be a more interesting fight.

Once they got into Dragon Ball Z, Yeah, more or less.

Though, one of goku's most endearing traits is his boundless wonder and optimisim, innocence, and nievety.

Goku tends to trust people he shouldn't. Clark's Not that bad.

There is this fan comic out there somewhere, that is a matchup between the two of them, and it ends in a stalemate. Does a pretty good job of showing them go all out on each other.

Dbz was a good anime for its time tho. Now it's been surpassed by other anime and protagonist. Still Goku right next to Pokemon and sailor moon are the most iconic anime characters ever created. He's a great endearing character.
