Other than avatar, the big upset this evening had to have been the hangover. I didn't give that one a snowballs chance, but it was cool to see it win. I thought it was hilarious.

I was very happy to see Jeff Bridges win. I haven't seen Crazy Heart yet, but from what I've seen in the trailer, it looks like one of his greatest performances.

D9 had huge hype, as did Avatar. I left D9 thinking it was okay. Not great, not terrible. I left Avatar with my mind completely blown away, having never have seen anything on that level before. And I'm getting sick of people saying avatar is cliche. IMO, D9 is cliche, since "V" the 80's tv show had parallels.

And I guess I'm ignorant, cause I've never heard of "hurt locker" whatever that is.

Well I won't call you a D9 hater. ;) You should check out Hurt Locker...it's out on DVD now. I just saw it and it was damn impressive.

D9 had more complex plot development in the first 10 minutes than Avatar did in the whole 3 hours. I'm not saying a movie can't be fun, but to be award worthy, it needs to be more than eye candy. Avatar has been given Citizen Kane or Godfather status but it really didn't deliver that kind of movie experience for me.

Was you blown away by the visuals or the story? If you liked the visuals then I'm with you, but if the story sucked you in I reccommend you also check out Dances with Wolves, it does the whole outsider-going-native thing much better.

IMO, the real Best Picture.

I totally agree.

If you couldnt predict where Avatar was going to go, somethings wrong with you. It WAS cliche. It was nothing more then any "Man Goes Native, CARE about the Enviorment" story, with awesome effects, and great action. James Cameron can make it work, it's super fun. But award worthy? No.

I'm actually kind of surprised that Avatar won best picture, but since the Academy Awards are definitely not going to choose that I vote for Inglorious Basterds for the best picture Oscar.

I agree. Take the visuals out. Would you like it?

Sadly, I probably would not. That Colonel character really got on my nerves. I mean I know he was the guy everyone could hate...but damn he was just a little too much for me.

I don't think anyone "hates" it. I really enjoyed it - it was beautifully done - no question. Cameron has made a ground breaking film as far as special effects are concerned.....I just think there were a lot of great films out this year - they may not have the visual impact of Avatar - but they had top notch acting and better scripts, imo.

Totally agree.
