I have to stop reading this thread because it frustrates me that people are so goshdarn picky or whatever.... that they can see why avatar is overrated while I want and will see it a third time in the theatre.

I want to see it a fourth time, and I think it's insanely overrated.

I can easily enjoy this movie. But I cant take it's WINNING these awards, when there is so much better movies out there. SO MUCH BETTER.

I loved Transformers 2....but could you see that winning any awards? :lol

We are movie fans. Not movie goers. We pick apart movies because we enjoy that. Thats something to get out of a movie. To get a better meaning behind it. And Avatar, while amazingly cool, is nothing special story wise. Which is the most important thing. I can make execeptions sometimes...

But not when it comes to awards.

wait........ your "avatar" is awesome, and we're talking about how awesome "Avatar" is (or isn't)... James Cameron has the same initials as Jesus Christ.... are you seeing the connections?????? JC is THE second coming and his message is spoken through the movie Avatar. Don't be left behind. Accept the truth. Avatar is the best movie you've ever seen in your life. So say we all.

Someone asked a while back about the Globes being bought. Here's a little tidbit about the Globes in general from Nikki Finkes blog tonight...

But that's why people tune in to the annual Golden Globes even though it's a completely meaningless awards show by a scandal-riddled organization called the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on a network desperate for any kind of ratings. Because, over the years, Jack Nicholson has mooned the audience, Jim Carrey has talked out of his butt, Christine Lahti was locked in the bathroom, and other unscripted weirdness occurs at this intimate dinner. Including 1982's low point when Pia Zadora's husband bought her best "New Star Of The Year". And that's the perennial problem with the Golden Globes: they have zero integrity. I've said it before and I'll say it again: studios and networks who lavishly lobby the HFPA usually score nominations. Stars win in direct correlation to their glamour quotient. Everything about the awards is geared towards hyping the media's interest and the telecast's ratings. Even the small motley group of freelancers who belong to the HFPA won't grant membership to the real foreign journalists at the prestige newspapers across the world. NBC and ____ Clark Productions could clean up the Globes but choose not to. Instead, the entire entertainment industry props up this pathetic show because it's seen as a night-long marketing tool. Therefore, it's ridiculous to consider the movie categories as a window on the Oscar frontrunners. So I will not treat tonight with any seriousness.

Scott- I really enjoyed Avatar too and am seeing it again this week.
But I wonder- if it was not in 3D or even animated at all but took place on an island with real natives... would it still be so awesome? I think not.

Once again, it's a great movie but to me it can't compare to Cameron's other flicks, specifically Terminator 1 & 2 and Aliens...

Definitely true. And it's true that it's more 'fun' to watch than the Oscars. But the Oscars are the awards given by their (mostly respected) PEERS, not some motley crew of wannabe journalists. The Globes are entertainment. The Oscars are a bit more 'classy' (if you can call ANYTHING classy in Hollywood anymore). It was fun to see the Hangover win, with Mike Tyson reveling in the glory. It was nice to see Drew Barrymore and Sandra Bullock get awarded in some way. It was fun to hear Jeff Bridges thank his stand-in. And it was awesome to hear RDJ's speech! But I don't think Hollywood really takes the Globes very seriously (obviously).

All I can say is that if Inglorious Basterds is snubbed at the Oscars as badly as it was tonight, I will be super pissed! That film is a masterpiece, and QT (as annoying as he is!) deserves his moment. If he doesn't win Best Director....well....I'm gonna ***** about it on the internet for years to come :lol
 
Neither the Golden Globes nor the Oscars mean much. They usually get it wrong. I loved Avatar but the Hurt Locker deserved it. I honestly didn't enjoy Inglorious Basterds and QT was really annoying tonight.

This is exacly why i'm not enjoying Avatar as much as I want to.

I never like to say a movie is overrated. So I wont start now....but stop blowing it out of proportion.

He was himself. Pretty much acting smug and everytime his name or IB was called he would nod his head like a gangsta or raise his arm up. Great director, annoyingly douchey person.

I am 33 and yes this is the best movie I have ever seen.
I dont care what you people tell me.
when I go to the movies I am always looking for a new, fresh, Innovative Experience, Ground breaking, epic, heroic etc...

AVATAR is this movie.

I love all movies from different aspecs but I go to the movies to Escape From Reality, To have fun.

people close there minds to all new things. I dont.
I love all movies.

I saw all the movies nominated at the globes and I thought they where all good but AVATAR was the better movie for me PERIOD.
