Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

Yeah, the worst thing about that is that people will be freaking out whenever a license takes more than a couple months to release a figure, and will point to this as evidence that it isn't happening :lol

People need to stop parroting this "the movie tanked" canard. Yes, it seriously under-performed and WB had to be disappointed given their higher expectations, but it did make over $200 million worldwide and had pretty healthy DVD/Blu-ray sales. Quit acting like it was a GIGLI-level bomb just because it's the cool thing to do. At the end of the day, it was profitable. Not by much, but it was. Besides, it's not like X-MEN
FIRST CLASS did significantly better.

Hot Toys' apparent decision to abandon the license likely has a lot more to do with the sensibilities within their own market as well as the fact that their plate is already overfull milking the same licenses. Plus, the R&D and engineering on this figure would have proven to be quite costly.

At least they're still apparently making 1-2 FIRST CLASS figures.

Actually, based on what they said, I think the body was a HUGE factor.
A movie can bomb and figures are still doable if they're regular TTs wearing jumpsuits.

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

On the bright side Mike, SSC is doing comic styled DC figures! :yess:

Fingers crossed that SSC decides to slip in a GL film variant as an SDCC exclusive or something but still...

Yeah, I do agree that the engineering aspects of the figure was a big factor, if not the #1 factor.

Judging by the amount if new people on FB who discovered HT through The Avengers, they are gonna be really disillusiioned once they realise the next license they want won't get figure after figure after figure in rapid succession :lol

_______

thing with the body is that most would only use the light-up function a few times, hardly a figure that absolutely couldn't be made without it, releasing a figure without the lights would still be doable and better than any out there and not tank their reputation for following through on announcements

What some people here need to realize is that Hot Toys is not a service company. They're a Hong Kong based collectible toy company. They produce products. That's it. They don't even have a customer service side (duh) and don't sell direct, ala Sideshow. We are not their customers. We are consumers, and there is a difference.

When a license is announced there is never a "guarantee" until well past its official solicitation (which GL never had).

I'm surprised that this is hard for some to grasp. It's pretty simple... A GL figure no longer made sense for their product plan, probably for a number of reasons.
Therefore, it was never officially offered nor was a prototype shown (if it even exists). The end. As disappointing as that may be for some us there is really no reason to be butt-hurt about it.

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

Well the only issue is that prior to this, HT was very reliable in terms of at least producing a figure from any line announced. Of course, that doesn't contractually lock them into doing it, but they have done it nonetheless, and that's going to affect people's expectations. It is what it is, and it isn't the end of the world, but it is a new development that is going to make some view HT in a different light.

Also, they actually do have a customer service e-mail, but good luck getting any assistance with it anymore.

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

A nicely sculpted body with limited articulation and cleverly hidden joints with a killer portrait is all that was needed. And as for the r&d being expensive HT charges how much for basic figures nowadays and they are crying poor?
I will repeat myself
F#€¥ you too HT!

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

They said they were making figures, which lead people to beleive that they were making figures.

Crazy how that process works huh

Businesses don't just do things because they can afford it, they do things that they think will maximize profits. Obviously, that was not perceived to be the case with GL.

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

Question becomes, how long did they know this wasn't going to become a reality before making this half-assed, half-hidden announcement?

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

I see this as more of a "it was bound to happen sooner or later" than a new prescedent for the company. GL was just a perfect storm of difficult engineering + lukewarm fanbase + a jillion other figures on their plate.

I'm sniffing at least a slight sense of entitlement in here. Are some of you seriously intimating that Hot Toys "owes" us a GL figure simply because they announced the license but subsequently decided against it?

Again, they never even officially solicited a product.

Be disappointed, yes. But to be put off to the point of indignation? Too far.

Stop crying man! It'll be better, you'll see. Look I just got this letter from Hot Toys' GL dept...

"Frankyboy, i asked the nurse to show you this license so you could cherish it. the sculptor came in a while ago, but i already new it anyway. i keep getting tired and tired. listen, i dont mind dying now it was worth it, it was worth watching those little fanboys, their lives are worth more than mine, they have more to live for. some of their parents came by to think me and it was worth it. tell SSF it was worth it. im just gona miss u guys and iv been thinking about it. that poem, the guy that wrote it. he ment your gold when your a kid, like green (lantern), when your a kid everything is new, dawn, its just, when just u get used to every thing its day. like the way you dig dioramas Frankyboy, thats gold. keep it that way, its a good way to be. i want u to tell SSF to look at one. they'll probly think your crazy but ask for me. i dont think theys ever really seen a GL diorama. and dont be bugged over being a newb, you still have alot of time to make yourself be what you want. theres still alot of odd sculpts on e-bay. tell SSF i dont think they noes. your buddy, Hot Toys GL."

Stay golden..:monkey2

:crying:crying:crying:crying:crying:crying

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

Given the performance of the movie this is not a surprise, and it's better to get the final confirmation. Maybe Enterbay or some other company will now pick up the license or a customizer can take it on.

I think there are definitely entitlement issues by some collectors across the forum. . .but to build expectations based on historical behavior is only rational. Maybe Khev is right and it was inevitable. I've sort of assumed that HT was making a commitment to do something when they made an announcement, and now I'm not so sure. It is what it is, but it changes expectations a bit.
