Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

That sucks, to be honest though the lack of updates etc had me believing these were quite a way off release dates so never got my hopes up.

It's really bad of HT not to have officially announced this :(

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

I still love how people can't get over or separate the box office thing.

To add to the conversation above, HT DID absolutely solicit a product, they made every notion that a figure was coming in their announcement and even asked us to stay tuned. What didn't happen is the follow through which sets a new precedent which is that no matter the delays like Avatar, Ghost Rider or Bruce Lee, their original announcements always bore fruit. That time is gone.

The fact a prototype was never shown or a figure ever order means nothing to the point that HT history has been that an announcement always equaled a figure and not it doesn't.

That is a new era for this company whether we are customers or consumers that didn't exist before this and one that will be interesting to watch as HT continues to add more licenses than empty their backlogs. I'm seriously disappointed and am not going to boycott the company or anything but it does make me wonder on what is still floating out there especially on licenses which were announced but still have not shown anything.

It doesn't matter, though. They were under no obligation (even ethically) to produce the product. It's that simple. The rest is just semantics.

I'm bummed, too, because I'm a GL fan and wanted a good 1:6 movie-based figure. But it is what it is and thems the breaks.

Products by different companies in different industries are announced and shelved all the time. Has our hobby really become so insular that it gives us true pause when it happens here?

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

Well as I and many have said over and over, the constant addition of licenses upon licenses and the resulting lengthening backlog was always going to come back and bite someone in the ass.

It's already bitten us customers via QC issues, now, it strikes again.

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

But companies aren't obligated to produce because they solicit figures, either. Sideshow canceled that Mummy PF awhile back, when they realized it was a lost cause. Mattel did it recently for some DCUC figures. DST has done it with Godfather and Rocky III Minimates, etc.

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

Sounds like, if this is true, they were trying to go all out on the character and make him light up all over like in the movie and they just couldn't get it to work. BAM! There goes the, "That's cool as |-|ell, I'm buying it!" sales. After that, only the hard core Hal fans are left cause the casual movie fans were a lost cause as soon as they saw that turd of a movie. I can see them backing out if they couldn't get the electronics to work. I didn't like the movie but if HTs could have nailed that luminous look of the suit, I might have bought the fig just because of the design & engineering that went into it.

Well you know what that means if they could not get this figure to light I expect that they will not be able to give us a Tron figure due to a similar issue rubber and light up feature.

I'll repeat...

Expecting figures when they say they're doing the figure is a natural response, as is being disapointed when they say they're doing said figure and don't. If they never said they were doing them people wouldn't be expecting them to make them.

From now on they should only announce a project once they've aquired it, developed it and are sure they can do it before telling people they'll be doing it.

Looks at ThreeA they announced their deal to produce Valve products around a month ago and have already shown off two prototypes since then.

They'd obviously been working on those prototypes for a while longer BEFORE they announced to their consumers they were going to suppoy products to them, that is a better process

Agreed. I'm just pointing out that they never even officially solicited this figure, so they were under even less "obligation" to follow through.

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

It's all over for GL fans- HT makes an outright cancellation of a license....

:goodpost::exactly: Just because they pick up a license doesn't mean they have to follow through with it if they believe it's no longer a viable product.

I'm still gutted as I really wanted a movie GL, I actually really liked the movie :dunno

I like the ThreeA way better, too. Don't get me wrong... I, too find the waiting game and uncertainty at least mildly frustrating. But this is the Hot Toys way. They're very big on proclaiming things then going back into their holes and working on it as long as it takes before they're actually comfortable showing it. It's just the way they operate.

So I take it you were perfectly content with Handjob Hellen's ____ teasing back in high school? :lol

Well, HT relies heavily on the hype machine, as does Enterbay. An instance like this will bug some, but in general all the hype they build through announcing properties early may outweigh any negativity associated with backing out of releasing one or two.

I think the lesson from this is--don't get your expectations too high, because you never know. I'm genuinely sorry for you guys that were really anticipating this, but that's business for you.

true - also Kotobukiya canceled the Rogue Sentinel statue. Hasbro canceled the Black Widow figure from Iron Man 2. It happens quite often.

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

The reaction is based simply because Hot Toys have never done it before, one expects them to make figures from the announcement because there was never a reason not to expect otherwise

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

Well that sucks donkey balls that's for sure i wanted a GL :monkey2 I'll just have to make my own bugger bums to it.

It was bound to happen sometime and was absolutely inevitable at the rate they were snapping up licenses. Thankfully, they seem to have at least tempered that a bit some since then.

Re: Hot Toys Green Lantern - Official License Announcement

Mike, this is for you...
