Glad to see so many folks here liked the film.

I was lucky enough to get invited to the cast and crew screening a couple of days ago, and Guillermo del Toro was there to introduce the film personally. He urged us all to go back to a time in our lives when our imaginations ran wild, and we truly believed in monsters. Under that state of mind, I loved every second of this film. It made me feel like I was 8 years old again, in the best possible way.

OK, in this day and age, and especially the future. You are telling me, you can't create REMOTE controlled robots to do the fighting??
You have to risk human lives because apparently you need real people mind connected to control it? It can't just be remote controlled like...um just about everything these days lol.

The same reason people will always drive cars and why soldiers will always risk their lives in combat regardless of what technology is available.

Cool, I've actually never seen one of the IMAX posters before, so I was curious. The WWZ ones that Cinemark gave out were like 8"x10".:lol

I've seen the WWZ ones. They good....

:lol That's about the size of it. Small enough that you could scoop it up and dispose of it easily, yet big enough that you don't get any on your hands. I actually thought the design was pretty cool, but when a theater says they're handing out posters, the last thing I'm expecting is a post card.

They rock my ****. I love them. I wish I had gotten more though. There weren't that many, and I kept stealing from the stack outside of the theater during my frequent beer/bathroom trips.

Agreed but it makes things less immersive. Just look at Tony Stark 3, he controlled the armour while sitting on a boat, with that reveal it threw all sense of threat and heroism out the window knowing that he didn't do it.

You need people in there in order for there to be stakes.

I must be getting cynical or something because I thought pacific rim was kind of boring to honest.

Must of been like 15 minutes of robots fighting in a 2 hour and a half movie, I thought all of the human characters were boring and I didn't care about them or their melodrama at all, all the best scenes I had seen in the trailers, and way to
have that terrible cliched independence day ending
.

The Jaegers fighting was awesome and any scene with the kaijus, but the rest of this movie was monotonous cliches and cardboard cutout characters. The aesthetic couldn't save the movie for me unfortunately.

I was really psyched for this movie but I ended up not diggin it too much.

People who didn't like this were expecting deep characters and a compelling story.

Maybe you are getting cynical...but I don't know. I thought I was...but I think it's just these movies that have come out, had no heart or soul, or any kind of passion what so ever. They felt like products to me. Big loud products.

This movie felt like Del Toro spluging all over the screen with his soul, and everything he stands for and loves. And you have to appreciate that.

I found the characters endearing...but only because they were given clear cut motives, backstories, and they moved the story along. Not that they were good, or amazing...but they gave a slight connection to the fight scenes. It wasn't mindless. There were people involved.

But at the same time, the film never hit a super serious tone, so it allowed me to look past the shallowness, and embrace the camp and have some damn fun for once this summer. (This is The End excluded) You ain't wrong, and I have no need to go all "OMG U DIDNT GET IT" on you. I'm just offering a nice counter opinion.
