I just heard about this earlier today. They're talking deaths in the hundreds of thousands. :sick

Very sad news. I heard reports that everything has been destroyed in the capital city, water, roads, buildings(all the hospitals),the port, the airport(save 1 runway). This is a trus disaster. My prayers go out to all those effected by this.

Big haitian community in Montreal. And I have lots of Haitian friends (they call me White Hope). This is not looking good.

man. I have to admit to just plain ignorance to how we can be so vulnerable to the whims of mother nature in this day and age especially the poorer countries or regions.

its like some places if a similar earthquake hit, they probably withstand it allright. others its catastrophic. even katrina as hard as that was didn't really kill many people and everyone blames the government for not doing enough, etc.

if you think about it, our government got BLASTED for its reaction to katrina where as a place like Haiti their government and economy has been so substandard for GENERATIONS that people live in huts and shanties and stuff. its really disgusting how places like that exist today.

100,000 to as many as 500,000 people dead! :horror There are no words.

We need to send aircraft carriers there. They have multiple hospitals and cafeterias on board that can help some of these people.

It's a tragedy few of us can probably truely comprehend as I'm sure we live in far more developed regions, but I can only hope that everyone who has been affected gets the help and treatment they deserve. Absolutely heartbreaking to see so many people in pain and not knowing if their loved ones are ok.

"The death of one is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic."

I heard about this earlier today, it's very heartbreaking. It definitely puts things into perspective.

I asked a gentleman earlier who is from Haiti if he had any contact with his family back home but he said he couldn't. Everything was down, he said. Hospitals, communications, churches, etc. It was so heartbreaking just listening to him talk about it. Meanwhile, another gentleman(who's a conspiracy theorist/ zealot btw!) told me that it was the will of Jesus. Apparently, the earthquake was some sort of punishment upon them for practicing voodoo. Of all the ignorant shat I've ever heard!...
