i agree with what most are saying. We have given a crap load of money to this country, we are in deep enough ____ the way our country is now, and its not getting better anytime soon, we dont need more heads to put us even further in the crapper. I'm not doing too well financially right now, but i donated something, as a lot of other people have. No relocation here please..........but i really do wander what they do with all the millions just our country has donated, not to mention what the rest of the world is donating.

We give and we care because we are Americans. We love to say that we have the best country so in a crisis like this it's time to help others out. Giving 5 bucks so that 20 kids can have a bottle of water who are dying of thirst doesn't sound to outrageous to me. Our problems at home should have no influence in a time of a monumental disaster.

If you guys seriously have concerns about where your money is going when it goes to a charity, just google up the charity and complaints about their fund allocation first. You can find if there's been any previous complaints pretty quickly.

Some charities have really high administration fees, some have really low ones. It's worth looking into so you're not just padding some guy's wallet.

For example, Doctors Without Borders has it right on their webpage.

Wow, very well said!

Merely playing devils advocate, and I agree with you 100%

But to me 100 million want solve ____, so I guess its a feel good donation

If people want to donate thats awesome, but im glad Canada didnt kick in any of my tax dollars

What??? You really have a problem with that?

Canada, like any country, spends a LOT of money on foreign aid in general. Obviously we can't go broke doing that but we do what we can to help, especially in a situation like this.

In addition to that, you do realize that we've sent a ton of soldiers as well as a destroyer and frigate to help. That's pretty cold if you think that's a "waste of tax dollars".

Thats not what I was eluding to, but no I dont want my tax dollars going there, we have other resources to donate and help with, like you said, troops, ships, peoples donations, etc.

I'm amazed at how people think that it's "wasting" money to save someones' life. Don't you all realize that we are human beings on the same planet and whatever god you believe in, it's in our duty to look out for each other. We all share this planet...and there is such a thing as karma...what comes around goes around. How can people watch others die, starve and be killed and say "no..I'm not helping cause it's a waste of money." Try telling that to the people being pulled from the rubble...those rescue squads are funded from someone. These people have lost their entire country almost...get a friggin grip on reality.

And you donated to Haiti before the earthquake right? and you actively help out the African nations that have people brutalized daily right?

Your missing the point

The point was there are better ways to help these people before and now, than just tossing a boatload of money at it.

Catch 22 .We ease up on immigration and thousands of these people would have been elsewhere when the quake struck. But as we all read in this thread "we got our own problems, we dont need more people here", so if having your gov put millions of dollars into a world problem makes you sleep better than so be it.

My heart goes out to all of the victims of the earth quake. My thoughts and prayers are with them. What has happened is very sad. I felt giving a donation was the very least that I could do. God bless the people of Haiti in their time of need.

So the US takes in these millions of Haitians. What becomes of Haiti? Well, other people just move there and over populate it and it starts all over again. So the point of moving them here is more pointless.

We can't house the world. We can't take in every single person who has heartache. If we do, we'll end up a third world country ourselves. This is why people give money.

Great post, we do need to patch up our own problems here. All this money we have thrown at other countries for years now, could have been used for creating after school programs and school trips for kids, educational funding etc..so they don't go join gangs and shoot up each other.Bringing these people from Haiti to our countries will really just bring more crime and wasted money on re-education for these people to blend into our way of life, unemployment rates are still pretty damn high for both U.S and Canada, we don't need more people to be brought here to live off the government when we can't even get most of our own off it and into work.

Considering our Canadian crime rate is low in general, the pittance we spend on foreign aid (same with the US) doesn't have much to do with the rest of the budget or with crime prevention. Are you aware that we had a federal budget surplus for the past 5 or so years?

The point is, money wasn't lacking for our own improvements.

Money is lacking, teachers have striked far too many times here since they are under paid and schools under staffed, we need more cops in Toronto, extra curricular activities in schools have been cut back or cut completely, crime is going up for sure,we need more doctors and special care staff(lots of them leave to work in the US),not to mention Canada is in debt still big time, places out east need new developments to create jobs for many, as most go out west to work.Government housing projects need heavy renovations and restorations, roads need repaving(especially Steeles Ave), lots of shhit to fix that have been on the waiting list for years.

Nice of you to contradict yourself. You don't want your tax dollars going there but it's ok to send troops and ships???? WTF do you think pays for those troops and ships....YOUR TAX DOLLARS Einstein.

Foreign Aid is just as important as any other program the government funds. Do a little history research and see how far Isolationism got us int he past.

Sending $$, supplies, etc to Haiti to help is a much better option than just bringing everyone from Haiti to the US/Canada....and much cheaper in the long run versus the cost to our social infrastructure.

What you don't seem to understand is that the reasons those weren't funded have nothing to do with the budget. Like I said, the government had a surplus for over 5 years, until this year.

So no, money wasn't lacking for all those years. Money was not allocated to those projects on purpose, because right now we have a federal government that's doing it best to make it look like government is useless, so they can privatize as many services as possible. This shouldn't come as a big surprise, Harper's policies were known for quite some time, I'm not sure why people expected anything else.

So once again, the incredibly tiny amount that Canada gives for foreign aid has nothing to do with the things you want funded.

They are bringing them though, and i think that sucks big time..meh, send them to Montreal. :D

I saw this on Reddit, and couldn't help but post it for those who feel we shouldn't be helping the Haitians.
