That's a fair point.
I'd say Lara is the more iconic character and Chief is the more iconic franchise/chara.

the problem with tomb raider is they didnt do a good job with the later games in the franchise thus both the character and the brand lost a lot of popularity (the reboot looks promising so far though). Halo, on the other hand pretty much maintained the quality of the game in the sequels.
Nothing destroys a video game character's popularity more than a bad game. Look at duke nukem, once considered one of the most popular and highly regarded icon in video game. Yet with the release of the horrible sequel it completely killed the character. The statue which imo is very well done, is still sitting on sideshow's website untouched even with a 75 ES.

Anytime I think of shooters, I think of Master Chief Initially ( and Halo ). I think what made Halo so popular is by part 2 it was on xbox live multiplayer.....this for me elevated ( the already popular part one ) to a whole new level. I had played other games online before ( shooters included ) but none like Halo 2. It was revolutionary for me when I first started playing it and it stuck with me as probably the best time I had playing any video game in my life. For these reasons and the absolute great game-play of halo as a shooter ( look at the ratings )....master chief is engraved in most peoples minds as one of the most iconic video game characters of this generation and the next.
I think the all time award would have to go to Mario.. but shooters / action...def MC.
P.S. It helps that master chief not only looks awesome but is a complete bad azz.

Yeah all time characters is Mario definately. MC and Lara maybe 10 15 years ago at the moment she's not on the radar even though her new game was good.

So true. It's funny you write this because as I was debating the biggest icon statue Duke obviously came to mind but DNF was **** and the statue is just average so yeah.

That 75 ES of Duke Nukem not selling out is quite sad to see how a icon have disappeared into the void. It would be worse if SS didn't even sell just ONE Duke!

They keep pumping his dead body for games too.
While Duke Nukem is pretty much dead as an icon I don't blame that for the statue not selling. Honestly if the statue had been well executed I'd probably have bought him.

I remenber playing the original Halo with several friends by inter linking several Xboxes. By the time H2 launched, Xbox-Live exploded and I was forever hooked! So many hours of my life have been spent on Live which is why I have trouble getting stuff done! To me, Halo revolutionized gaming imo!

Yeah we used to have LAN parties at a mates house one night we had 16 guys playing full teams of 8 on Blood Gulch. Epic.

Blood Gulch was my favorite map back then because I like to play it with tanks and warthogs! Sniping with the tank from one end to the other end of the map was quite cheezy but fun!

As i loved Halo and always will.

I haven't forgotten how stupidly and OVERPOWERED that pistol was in Halo 1. It was still quite good to even snipe with it! The Shotgun melee followed right after the shotgun blast for the instant kill was also a classic 1-2 punch combo of death! Melee for the shield and then blast for the kill!
