In the Kings Cross chapter, Dumbledore said he was the more skilled wizard and Grindewald knew it. He also said that Grindewald knew why Dumbledore wouldn't face him: because of his sister (which was said in the book), but NOW, it was because Dumbledore still had feelings for him.

So then the Elder Wand would win against anyone who was more skilled... hm.... So then what was the point of elder wand?

I think we can chalk that up to inconsistent writing from JKR.

I don't know that I call the relationships of harry, Ron and Hermione "flaunting" heterosexuality. In the end this just doesn't matter.

Actually I was being facetious... People complain that Rowling saying Dumbledore is gay is following an agenda or if there were two characters that were gay writing about it would be flaunting the relationship. But no one is worried when its heterosexual couples or teenagers.

Just a little joke on my part, but to say the relationships (romantic and otherwise) have no bearing on the novel is silly, relationships are very central to the stories.

Acceptance and tolerance are catch phrases with little connection to reality. There are many popular actions that should not be accepted or tolerated. Its like saying that all discrimination is bad. Discrimination isn't bad, it just depends on the grounds on which you discriminate.

You're boarding on a subject I feel strongly about. Of whether it's okay to be tolerant of intolerance. It's a tricky subject but I think it's really a semantics thing.

Part of tolerance is practicing (reactionary) intolerance when faced with (primary) intolerance. It's sometimes hard for people to see the difference between the two and get bogged down by saying everything has to be accepted. But there's hate and there's allowing hate. By allowing hate one tacitly participates in the hate.

Like, I believe in religious tolerance as one of the greatest aspects of this society. But more and more today people seem to accept little intolerance's. Maybe not NAZI's going door to door, telling people that if they don't stop what they're doing they'll be sorry -- but other people, usually very nicely dressed and usually during diner, coming to the door, saying if you don't stop what you're doing you'll be sorry. Maybe threatening that if you don't sign up you'll burn in everlasting Hell fires isn't as bad as threatening to burn your family in a furnace but still, it's religious intolerance nonetheless.

Well...kind of off-topic, but the Elder Wand just gave you a more powerful wand, you still needed to know how to use it. Even with it, Grindewald wasn't as powerful as Dumbledore. But in the fight between the two, the main issue as it turned out to be, wasn't magic, but a backstory between them.

J.K. Rowling now adding revealing infomation about Dumbledore contributes
nothing to the story (to me), and if she'd have had any real guts about it,
she'd have "mentioned" it after the first or second book. But then that
would have affected the billions she stood to make on the subsequent books,
and she wouldn't have wanted to risk that now would she......

She did it right. It would have been a distracting issue to the story if she had announced it. Besides, when does the sexuality of a 150yr old actually come into play? Its like thinking of swinging singles at the old folks home.

I agree totally.

Maybe Ian McKellan would have really been right for this role then.

Actually STD's are becoming a problem at nursing homes...but then that is prolly more information than any wanted to know...

I think Dumbledore's sexuality is a non-issue in the book. Book 7 is the only one I can see where she could bring it up without setting out to do so.

I was thinking the same thing, I had read that senior citizens were the fastest rising group for contracting HIV... they're from a time when condoms weren't as popular and they certainly aren't worried about getting anyone pregnant.

Sorry to nit-pick, but I don't think she did it right at all, and it is still
distracting to the story now that it has been made known.

Like you said, when does the sexuality of a 150yr old actually come into play?
It doesn't, and didn't. There is no value added to the books (to me) by her revalation.

Easy and painless for her to "reveal" anything she chooses now that she's
already cashed in on the book $ale$.

Imagine if at this date George Lucas revealed something similar regarding Star Wars?
Old Ben......

That'd be an uproar to behold! :chew :emperor
