i have been tempted but i have not reached that stage yet
i have lied to my mom about the cost of these but she found out anyway.
if you lie you will always be caught sooner or later.

Nah, not at all. If anyone asks, I tell them. I went on a spending binge early on in my statue/figure career but I've calmed down since then, so it's not like I'm cutting into necessary savings or anything.

I don't have to. My wife knew that I was waist deep into this hobby and actually budgets in figures. I just don't go overboard and the most I get is a shrug when she see it on the books.

What if the conversation went like this though....

Friend: "Wow bud, those are so cool. Where do you get them ?"
You: "Ebay and retailers online."
Friend: "I especially like that T-800. How much are they ?"
You: "$50"
Friend: "That's it ? Cool, I've never done online shopping before so order me one and I'll pay you back"

:lol

This would be great on "Curb your enthusiasm":lol

I know what you mean Lejuan! My wife always gets mad when i tell her how much my statues and figures cost. So i just stop telling her try to pick up an extra shift here and there to offset my addiction.

I definitely wouldn't lie to my lady (the only one around who would notice). I make pretty decent money, stay on top of my bills, and so on, so she's never really found any reason to complain.

Though I have to say, I read a smart comment earlier on the board where someone mentioned that it would be rude to walk into someone's home and start asking how much they paid for their belongings, and I guess I kind of agree with that. However, if they were genuinely interested in collecting themselves and polite about it, I'd probably share a bit more info on the cost.

It might be rude depending on how it's asked. These are pretty impressive things, and a lot of people who come over are genuinely interested because they've never seen 'toys' like them before and can see the quality of detail and workmanship. When I tell them what they cost, the typical response is a low whistle and an appreciative nod - they are never surprised.

I should add to my earlier post that even when I lied to my mum that they were 'about a hundred bucks', even she just overlooked the money factor and said how great they were. "I want a Bruce Lee", she said :lol

They don't ask and I don't tell, but I don't live with a boyfriend either and share expenses. That's a whole nother story.

btw.......you can't find the figure cheaper than 300?

Yes, I've lied about price to my mother often. I've also claimed that I've "won" certain pieces. Given how often Sideshow does giveaways, she seems to believe it.

Well, thanks to the old heads on this board for counseling patience, I've decided to manage my itch for the figure and wait for a better deal than what's currently around. But yeah, it'll be hard to find this figure for less than this when you throw in 50 bucks shipping to Oz. At best I might get a bargain at under 200, but these are a rarity... more like 250-350 plus the shipping.

Plus, I've decided to wait for my tax return to come in a month or two so I don't have to have the hard discussion with my lady. Our tax returns are sacred to each of us, no questions asked on ANYTHING it's spent on :)

What is with the lying to your mothers? I didn't know this board was filled with 12 year olds. Anyway I don't lie to the woman, what would be the point in that? She supports most of my purchases and doesn't care at all. As long as we can buy things we want, go on vacations and still save money we are good.

:lecture I explained my predicament a few pages back - there's no need to be disparaging about it.

Well I only lie to mom so this conversation would look like this:

Mom: "Wow that Arnold figure is so awesome!!! Does it feature his fine chiseled buttocks from when he arrives in the past?

Me: " Yeah it's pretty cool but I haven't taken off his pants yet to confirm on the ummm, errr "buttocks"

Mom: Doesn't matter. I'm so useless on a computer so I have no way of looking this up online to figure out the price. I'm just going to take your word that it costs $50.00.

Me: "Ok then. What's for dinner?"

:wink1:
