I mayy be taking Jabba pics tonight. Man do I love this set.
OK...I quit collecting the Hasbro Star Wars stuff a year and a half or two years ago because I was simply not enjoying the direction Hasbro took with the line. I did not like the cards. I did not like the animation style of the Clone Wars figures (although I was willing to buy them if they also would have had a realistic version of each one), and I did not like the choices of new figures (I know, not Hasbro's fault, totally personal choice), AND the price was getting ridiculous.
This morning, I walked to the Hasbro Star Wars display for the first time in a month and was blown away. I like the figure choices. I like the versions of the characters that have 20 other versions, and I like the cards...no...I LOVE the cards. I love the Clone Wars and Legacy cards and the Vintage cards are such a thing of beauty that I was drawn all the way back to the first time I stood in front of a Star Wars figure display at Ben Franklin in Langdon, North Dakota in 1977.
I was so enthralled that before I could even think about it, I was going through the display starting to gather one of each figure with the intent of picking up one of everything there including the very cool new battle packs and the ships.
Then I saw the price and immediately felt as though I had landed hard on the pavement after a 500-foot freefall.
But, damn! All of those figures still look incerdible in that display at Wal-Mart!
At least you saw the display-- my Wal-Mart still only has empty pegs... Someone should get fired.
And I am not kidding when I say it was an incredible display. I will be looking out for these pieces to go on clearance.
Well I'm doing another early morning cross border jaunt again tomorrow at 7am (US time) when I have the entire Wal-Mart to myself (collector heaven)-- I hope they have the figs out so I can pick through them.
I remember when the frenzy of ROTS figs came out and I wandered into the Wal-Mart... saw the display... wandered back to the front of the store to get a cart and then wandered back to spend a leisurely 30 mintues picking through all of them for the best ones. Sometimes it's good not to live in a Metropolis.
Here's hoping they'll be something for me tomorrow.
Cool! I hope the pegs are full and it is not a wasted trip for you! Good Luck!
Went to the Hasbro booth at CV today and bought a couple cases of the vintage line figures that include some from the next wave (Anakin, Obi-Wan, Grievous, Clone Trooper, Darth Sidious, Magna Guard and Cody).
I broke down and picked up the new AT-AT this weekend and although I'm impressed by its heft and features, there's one thing no one seems to be pointing out about this thing - something that might have STOPPED me from buying it: the neck. It's made of that same rubbery material that the interactive talking Yoda was made of. You know the stuff: the material which dries, rots, and deteriorates within a few years.
That one single aspect killed my enthusiasm for this toy and frankly, I'm considering packing it up and taking it back to TRU.
So, buyer beware. It may look great now, but give it a couple years and we may be looking to a customizer to whip up some kind of neck covering replacement part!
