Some good moments but overall very disappointed.

1) Entire series is building up to the night king, and he gets completely wiped out in 1 battle. No surprise or shock (except the forced arya kill), very methodical standard battle done in 100 movies. It’s clear at this point, series went off script and is no longer based on g martin source material, as he would never allowed the most important component of the series to just end so blandly.

2) the night king never revealed his identity or goal, nothing was explained. Only thing we found out as a fact now is he is targaryen since he can withstand dragon fire. Most likely he is bran the builder - the old guy, previous three eye raven- that the children caught him while he was time traveling and turned him into the night king then lost control over him. Still no idea what his goal was though. Be nice if they revealed SOME detail as that story arc ends abruptly. Same feeling I have as after watching the ending to Lost - cheated.

3) red witch lighting the Dothraki swords on fire is cool, but they mindless charging to get massacred while everyone watched is just retarded. What is the point? after all that planning, this is what they come up with? And don’t tell me it’s their style, they follow khaleesi now

4) khaleesi letting her dragon sit on the ground just so the undead can get on it is also stupid, and even more stupid is the dragon refuse to fly until suffficent number of zombies are on it AND after khaleesi falls off, then it takes off....just so ser jorah can die.

5) most forced part of the movie is Arya (my favorite character) came out of nowhere to kill the night king. I get the faceless assassin training, but she still needs something to blend or hide. She has no invisibility....The back of the night king was facing a clear field surrounded by his army... there was also no plan...if this was their plan where Arya was hiding in some tree while bran was bait, then at least there is some satisfaction the planning worked. Instead this is pure random...

6) oh yeah, I also can’t see ****. I get GOT doesn’t have avengers budget and by making things dark a lot of details can be omitted to save money, but seriously you gotta make sure viewers can actually see some of the actions...otherwise just release an audio book instead.

7) Lyanna Mormont death vs the giant is probably the most well done part of the movie, it has the desperation emotionally, realistic and believable, while making the viewers feel true loss without forcing the death.

Hope I am wrong, but based on next episode preview, looks like we done with winter is coming / night king story arc for good, and it’s back to iron throne drama...after all this build up since season 1 eposiode 1. Hope the eventual book is not such a disappointment.

Saw Endgame and came home and watched this episode.

Holy hell!!!! What a day.

I was on the edge of my seat during this entire episode... and Arya as the big surprise was great. But I do feel that after 8 seasons of "winter is coming" that having only one episode for the demise of the Night King was a bit of a let-down. I would have preferred one "reunion" episode instead of two and a two-parter for the End of Winter.

But I always knew Cersei was the true final battle. The true villain.

From episode one the White Walkers bored the hell out of me. Yawn. Another zombie story. I have always cared 1000% more about the actual game of thrones and the characters we love and hate....not just nameless, bland, white faced goons.

I sincerely hope this is the very last we'll see of them, and the last 3 episodes can be the Northern forces vs Cersei.....and then the last little problem we'll have to deal with is this whole Queen Mother of Dragons issue. Methinks she might take after her mad father more than she initially believed.

So who can confirm are named dead characters as of this battle? Certainly less than I was expecting:

Last guy from Night Watch...pointy beard guy
One eyed flaming sword guy
Ser Jorah
Theon
annoying little Mormont girl
Night King (allegedly)
undead ice dragon
Mellisandre

Did I miss any? It was all so fast and furious and poorly lit.

Varied and valid opinions on what I thought was a strong episode...valid except for this strain of nonsense declaring that Arya is a so called"Mary Sue." Sadly there is no validity to that at all. I would go as far as to say that if a fiction writing class wanted to teach writers how to avoid that particular trope they could point to Arya's development over the past seven seasons as the perfect way to make sure that your character can never be labeled a "Mary Sue." I guess to some...Female Character + Heroic Moment = "Mary Sue...?"

Arya is NOT a Mary Sue. Furthest thing from it. She's a seasoned hard ninja murderer. She's a killer, through and through.

Just please don't use the word "badass." Every time a guy uses the word "badass" to describe a female bile rises right up to my mouth. I blame buzzfeed and all those clickbait garbage sites.

"Our favorite new GoT character is a total BADASS...and she's only 8 years old!" (Yeah well, look how that worked out for her...I know it's wrong of me to cheer little girl getting squished like that, but I can't help it...buzzfeed made me do it.)

It's so annoying I've declared a total moratorium for the word in my life. If I hear someone say it, I walk away. If I see it in print, I immediately skip to something else.

Great episode.
Melisandre: Great arc and redemption. Yeah, that scene with the swords..
and then being snuffed out in the distance. Yikes.
Wouldve liked to see her slowly ignite as she was walking away as an old women.
Arya: Did she accidentally stab Beric in the heat of battle while he was trying to aid her?
Yeah, she’s not a MarySue. But that jump coming outta nowhere..
Not today Mr.Death.
Bran: What was he doing in a trance for so long, what was he looking at? So much for warging or taking an active hand in the battle.
Theon: No mans had a bigger pair then in his last scene.
Beric: Who’s going to pick up that sword? Thought he was going to get one last resurrection courtesy of you know who.
Sansa and Tyrion: As it should be
Jon: The man isn’t good with animals. Did he let both his dragon and wolf die in the same episode?
Wouldve had Ghost stay in the crypt or with Bran.
Ghost: I deserved better! I’m a f’n dire wolf!
Night King: So did his spear hit something? Kinda sounded like it. So he misses Drogon when he’s that close but nails a moving smaller target last season?
Jaime: Glad to see he made it but he’s wearing a high quality suit of plot armor in this episode.
Lady/Ser Brieane:Whew, good.

The series isn’t over but I’m still going to with the final episode of BSG as best episode ever but I might change my mind.

Episode was as satisfying and epic and Endgame. I understand the complaints about the darkness and shaky cam—the video compression on HBO streaming was horrendous—but it didn’t ruin anything for me.

Btw, they set Arya up in the first episode of the season when she reunited with Jon by the tree and he asks how she was able to sneak up on him. Also Bran clearly knew what was going to happen the entire time, he even gave that dagger to Arya originally. He basically Doctor Strange’d it and kept everyone in the dark.

Apparently there was a quick shot of Ghost in the background of one shot of the teaser for the next episode. He lives!

Rhaegal (Jon's dragon) is not dead. he drops Jon off and took off, also he was in the preview for next week.
I didn't see Ghost go down.

Update: Ghost made it too, There is a quick shot of him at the beginning of the preview.

Wow, if ThreeZero doesn’t make this version of Arya..

All things considered, im actually surprised how few characters died in this episode.

Great episode! Surprise ending too with little Ms. Stark too!

My only complaint is some of the dark battle scenes in that I agree, it was hard to see at times.

As for Jon seemingly abandoning Sam, I think he knew if he didn't get to Bran in time, it would be all over anyways. However, he had a much bigger obstacle which kept him from completing that task and was about to die for it too... but..... "Whew."

I'm happy to see Ghost did not die. I'm actually surprised more didn't die in this episode. Those who did die, did so with honor. Good deaths.

I felt this episode was also better than Endgame but it was still an AMAZING weekend! My inner geek is overwhelmed!!!!

3 episodes left to finish off Cersi and then..... Godzilla! 2019 is fantastic so far!!!!

:panic:

Don’t know why people are calling Arya a marry sue. ST take notes. That’s how you write a good character. She cane from a little helpless girl, to losing her damn eyesight and begging on the streets to overcoming and training to become a master assasin . That’s how you write good character development and strong characters.

Exactly. Unlike Rey or Captain Marvel, she trained hard and suffered to get as powerful as she was. And we watched every step of it. We saw her grow and learn, so when she finally was a badass, it felt earned.
