Did you get the mass market paperbacks? I usually buy softcovers cause they're bigger.

This is the one I recently got. I'm hoping they release the others with the show's pictures on them:

watched the 1st 3 episodes. pretty decent. havent read the books. Like sean bean and the dude that plays khal drago is the new conan.... not bad.

Great episode tonight. I like the depth that all the characters have. You can tell Martin put a lot of thought into them when writing the books.

And the actor who plays Littlefinger reminds me a lot of Gary Oldman.

Batty, are you reading the books along with the story? I don't know if it's better to read the book, then watch it, or watch then read. :huh

Glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks that. It's almost eerie hoe much Aidan Gillen looks like Gary Oldman.

The last episode was filled with great bits e.g
Dany standing up to her brother for real this time, the scenes with Arya and Ned, Petyr Baelish pointing out every spy in the court yard, etc.

I'm going to wait until the season is over before I read the book. I like not knowing what's about to happen.

There's a definite resemblance.

I love this show. Episode 4 was great, again, and Tyrion is in some deep ____. Come to think of it, you can really tell that its only a matter of time before all Hell breaks loose in this story. I've never read the books but plan to start after the conclusion of this first season/book on HBO.

Think this is one of the rare times I'm going to skip reading the books (though I did read the first one when it came out) and just enjoy the show. I remember the basic plot line from the first and most of the major action but I've forgotten enough that the show feels very fresh and exciting to me.

I just don't have the room for a long series of books in my queue these days, especially a series that doesn't seem it will ever be finished.

I think again in the last episode they did a fantastic job casting Samwell.

so will the first season on HBO be the full Game of Thrones book?

And since it is already scheduled for a second season, will season 2 be the 2nd book?

Yes. I have heard that each tv season will cover one book - more or less. There is so much that happens in Book 3 that I could see them splitting it into two tv seasons.

If you haven't read the books but are planning to, I think the best way to do it is read while your watching, but just slightly behind. The show is following the book very closely, so you can read up to where the show is at without hitting too much that would spoil future episodes. On top of that, the book gives you greater insights into the characters and their relationships than the show can, adding a ton of color.

I had my doubts when he first came on screen 'cause in my head, Sam looked like Sean Astin (Sam from LOTR). But after the Dinner Hall scene with Jon and Sam, he really grew on me.

I must disagree about Samwell. I dont like him at all. I cant quite put my finger on it. Another thing, Tyrion is my favorite character in the books but Dinklage isnt doing it for me. I dont think hes doing a bad acting job its just his delivery isnt Tyrion. And that scene with the prostitutes in ep. 1 was a bit rediculous and over the top. Overall I think the show is OK to GOOD. Im enjoyin git well enough. I dont have a big problem with alot of the changes it just some scenes dont carry the weight they did in the book like the rriver scene where Arya throws Joffreys sword into said river. I dunno. It could have been better. One change I do agree with is making certain characters older such as Jon Snow and Rob. I just hope they dont over sexualize the show for ratings like the did with True Blood. Those are great books as well. Their alot of fun.

Does the daenerys plot line improve dramatically? I find it quite the weak link in this otherwise stellar show. Very boring tbh.

Every time we switch away from a ned stark or Jon snow story arc to the grassy savanna its a real downer.

They should show more of the Tom boy kid and less of that blonde queen because the stark kids vs lannister kid storyline is more interesting than the barbarian queen storylinie.

It does get better I wasnt crazy about her chapters in the first book like everyon else was but as the books went on she became one of my favorite characters. I couldnt wait to get back to her. She plays a very important role in the coming books. Its Bran I cant stand in the book. Sooooooooo boring.:gah: And useless. Yeah yeah I know everyone says GRRM is planning something big with him but man it cant move quick enough. Hate Bran chapters.

Last night's episode was absolutely insane! DAMN!!! I love this show and last night it got absolutely crazy with the sword fights, bloodletting and just overall edginess that you would never find on NBC. Hilarious! The way everything is turning, developing its fantastic. Plus we got to see some dragon skulls.
