Action is defintely picking up but I noticed much of this episode wasn't actually in the book, least from what I remember, it seems that they added scenes for dramatic effect and insight into character progress.

I'm pretty excited that with HBO GO, you'll be able to see episode 7 right after episode 6 next weekend, its a nice bonus. I think the only HBO show I've enjoyed more then this is Deadwood.

I know this is a series based on novels and a second season is in the works, but I will be extremely disappointed in this show if at the very minimum one Lannister isn't killed. I'm hoping both the queen and her butt ____ing brother die but I doubt I'll be that lucky.

What!? Since whem is Renly Baratheon and Ser Loras lovers? What? I dont mind changes infact I even enbrace them at times but that is stupid. Im liking this show less and less. Sean Bean and Mark Addy are doing there jobs well enough but theres a few actors that simply arent hitting the mark. Dinklage is one as Tyrion and who ever that guy is that plays The Hound. His presence is not what its supposed to be. The fight between the hound and his brother doesnt hold the weight it did in the book. Alot of scenes are like that. Even without reading the book the scenes arent all that. I also feel like people have been waiting for these books to be made into film for so long that no matter how bad some of the things are they still act like its the best show ever. Its far from that. Its still just an OK show. Nothing more. Theyve sacrificed almost everything that was dramatic and suspenseful about the story for rediculously over sexualized scenes and just plainly rushing things. I dont know. Lets hope it gets better. At least Sansa isnt as annoying as she was in the book. Everyone of her chapters made me want to vomit.

I'm about 99% sure that Renly and Loras are lovers in the book, there is quite a bit of inbetween the lines about it. It's not like Martin wasn't afraid to add all sorts of sexuality to his books. Not sure what you mean about the Hound, I think he's as close to the book as it's gonna get.

You actually sound like you don't like the book or the show... there is always going to be artistic license with any book made into a tv show, I think HBO has done especially well in doing their best to make sure the show follows the tone of the books.

Oh and Renly was soo fun to read in the book. He had swagger adn charm. Now hes just a wuse with an actor doing a sub par acting jog on his character. Poor Renly. Even the Knight of Flowers had his moments in the book and hes not a very big character. Now he's just boring. Man I dont know. Ill hang aroung just to see what I know is coming before the end of this season. Im sure the scene Im thinking of will be just as weightless and stale as they have been. Which is the worst because its the scene that sets evertthing in motion for the rest of the story and still has an insane emotional impact when read today as it was yrs ago.

Um...you should reread the book. There was no gay love between those two. I just thought it was silly. And its one of my favorite books. Im just not one of those people who never critique the things I like. Its a great story but not perfect. The Hound to me is just disappointing. Im all for artistic freedom and I understand the changes that need to be made. The Hound was a scary dude now he just stands there glaring. Weak. I like hoew they changed the ages of Jon Snow, Eddard and alot of the other characters. There are changes I like and were appropriate. Theres alot thats just not there. Almost every scene they have tried to redo for the screen did not have the impact it did in the book. And no its not because of the narrative from the book in which you make your own. It simply wasnt executed the way it could have been. Like I said I dont completely hate the show, its just OK. All because I like something dont mean Im not going to call out the BS I see.

Martin was pretty good at sublety and the book I read had those two as lovers, in fact the book group that we read it in all of us thought they were lovers, so not sure where your looking, but hey if you don't see it not much I can do to convince you.

I think the show is about as close to the book as anything I've seen previously and I think most who've read the books feel the same way, it's just a well done show. I'll be out after this season though least in way of the books, have yet to read them and really no plans to.

I'm just going to throw this out there since I haven't read the books. I just did a breeze through of the characters on wiki and if they stick to the source material for this series I'm done with it after this season. I'm actually pretty pissed at what I read and I'm hoping against hope that they scrap a lot from the source because season 2 will be dead to me.

After reading this....

Then this....

I hope so too. :(

Are people getting upset because of incest (in that period of time, it was common) or because of gay characters?

Um... you should probably re-read the books because apparently the hints that Renly and Loras were lovers sailed right over your head. There are so many obvious references if you're paying attention. And if that's not enough, George R. R. Martin himself confirmed that they were gay.

And to the guys planning to abandon the show after certain events in season 1... you'll be missing out on the greatest stories this series has to offer. Book three is easily the best so far.

The story may be awesome in print but for the tv series and the way they've set it up....(please do not click the spoiler tag unless you want to know some serious spoilers)(also, everything I've put in spoilers is just what I read on wiki. I've not actually read the books)
This show will not survive without Ned Stark. It would be like killing off Tony Soprano and continuing on the Sopranos. Especially if the Lannisters kill the King then kill Ned and none of them die. You can't have a show that kills off the principles while allowing the villains to continually get away with both figurative and literal murder week in and week out without recourse. Who would want to watch that! "Tune in next week to see what the people you hate get away with this time.". There isn't a strong enough central character other than Ned that would make this show worth watching. The way they've set up the series for the general public is that Starks are the good guys and the Lannisters are the bad guys and everyone is waiting for the good guys to get even.

Ohh Martin has written this for the long haul and was very specific not to get attached to any specific characters. There really is no good or bad, just shades of grey and the only reason the HBO show changed that to some degree is so it fit better within tv viewing.

I hope not because both incest and homosexuality were very common back then along with pedophilia, which all three are present in the series, if people truly have issues with any of that, these aren't the books they should be reading.
