Every person I have ever known who OD'd on heroin was an idiot. (I don't mean they were dumb, I mean they were thoughtless). This news has me seriously pissed off. What a waste.

Exactly. I don't know anybody who has OD'd, but you are playing with fire messing around with that ****.

Geez, you'd think after Brad Renfro last week heroin users would say 'whoa' and cut back a bit. But I guess they're not showing a lot of good judgment sticking a needle in their arm in the first place.

Re: Sad News!! Heath Ledger found dead :(

I guess it's impossible to judge someone's mental state, but I just can't believe he was suicidal. Hell, with the early buzz his performance in Batman had been generating, his career looked like it was ready to skyrocket. Plus, I have never seen any typical crazy Hollywood antics from him. Most things I have read said he was really down to Earth. I heard about this on the news driving home and for the last 10 minutes of the ride, I prayed that it was some idiot DJ trying to be funny ... sadly, it wasn't. His loss will be felt throughout Hollywood. But, I guess it goes to show us that we are all mortal - each new day could be our last so live it to the fullest. :monkey2

This is a personal opinion that might offend some, but I think famous people with drug problems are really celebrated and glorified.

Winehouse, Cobain, Lohan, etc. The industry needs to blacklist them rather than reward the behavior with more roles, record deals, etc.

That Winehouse chick is a trainwreck.

I agree that the industry shouldn't glorify them but some of these folks really made massive contributions to art/music/film and to blacklist them would be a giant miscarriage of justice and a lot great stuff would be lost.

What I think is sad is the really gifted folk seem to die like this while the idiots in the business just keep rollin' along.

I personally think Heath was a great actor. He would have gone on to do some GREAT things in cinema.

I don't think those people were celebrated or beloved because of their drug use. Celebs are people too, subject to the same faults, addictions, and consequences as anyone else. I feel terrible for his newborn child.

Re: Sad News!! Heath Ledger found dead :(

Boy this is shocking. Hard to believe he is just gone now. I'm so looking forward to the Dark Knight and his peformance as the Joker. Now I can't believe he is dead.

I wonder how this will effect the Batman films now? Obviously the Joker won't be coming back (at least by Heath, but who could top him now?). I too thought he might be nominated for an Oscar for Joker. Has a dead actor ever been nominated? Might just do it to honor him now.

Wow. This will take some time to process. :monkey2

From the NYT...

Actor Heath Ledger Is Found Dead
By Sewell Chan

The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment in Manhattan owned by the actress Mary-Kate Olsen, according to the New York City police. Mr. Ledger was 28.

At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building, at 421 Broome Street in SoHo, for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger naked and unconscious on a bed, with pills scattered around his body. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities.
The police said they did not suspect foul play. The police said they believed Ms. Olsen, 21, was in California and said it was not clear why Mr. Ledger was in her apartment.

Mr. Ledger, a native of Perth, Australia, won acclaim for his role as a co-star in “Brokeback Mountain”, a 2005 film. The film, based on a short story by Annie Proulx about two cowboys who fall in love, won critical acclaim. Reviewing the film in The New York Times, the critic Stephen Holden wrote, “Mr. Ledger magically and mysteriously disappears beneath the skin of his lean, sinewy character. It is a great screen performance, as good as the best of Marlon Brando and Sean Penn.”

Mr. Ledger met the actress Michelle Williams while filming ‘’Brokeback Mountain.” The two actors fell into a romance and moved to Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, where their comings and goings were widely noted by paparazzi. They had a daughter, Matilda Rose, who was born on Oct. 28, 2005. The couple separated last year.

In an interview in London for an article published in November, Mr. Ledger told The New York Times, ‘’I feel like I’m wasting time if I repeat myself.” He said in the interview that he was not proud of his latest role, in Todd Haynes’s “I’m Not There,” in which Mr. Ledger was one of a half-dozen actors depicting the musician Bob Dylan. ‘’I feel the same way about everything I do. The day I say, ‘It’s good’ is the day I should start doing something else,” said in the interview.

Calls by The Times to Mara Buxbaum, a publicist for Mr. Ledger, and Steve Alexander, the actor’s agent, were not immediately returned this afternoon.

Re: Sad News!! Heath Ledger found dead :(

I'm having flashbacks to Brandon Lee and the Crow (although that was an on-set accident during filming) looking at all of your signatures with Heath Ledger in that white facepaint... this is eerie.

Like Carrot Top.

This is quite upsetting. It’s kind of ruined the new Batman movie for me. I just know I'll be watching and saying "what a waste" the whole time. I've always kind of liked Heath Ledger… Plus he was Australian, it always means something when one of your own dies young.

I surprised at the cause, he look like he’d have taken drugs but not loose enough to overdose…

That's not always true. Robert Downey Jr had to work hard to get back to the top of his game...

omg guys , this is really horrible news , im so sad right now , this has ruined my day!. Such sad news :monkey2:monkey2:monkey2.
Holy crap , i just can't believe it!!!.

Re: Sad News!! Heath Ledger found dead :(

A bit of a side note, but this tragedy really illustrates how much of an ass people can be. Went to USA Today because the Yahoo ad kept locking up and read the article. Then scrolled down to read some of the comments. There are actual monsters out there saying it was punishment and he deserved to die for "glamorizing homosexuality" in Brokeback Mountain. WTF?!? A young man loses his life, and *******s are happy just because he played a role in a movie? I wish I could trade one of their lives for his ... they have clearly illustrated they are less deserving.

Okay, part of the anger is grief .... mini rant over.

Re: Sad News!! Heath Ledger found dead :(

Just saw this on the evening news, I thought I'd heard the wrong name so came on line. So sad.
