It was how I expected it to sound. Since this is a younger version it's not as deep as when he gets older in later years I'm sure. I'd be very happy if it was a show that had the same format style and kept true to it's source material.
oh thatmakes sense

it was really good

Watched this last night.

Never read the Hellboy comics. Only watched the live action movies.

First movie looked fantastic. Hellboys birth, Kronen, Abe. The actors seemed to fit their parts. But the overall story was meh and the constant fighting of the demon dogs got old quick.

Second movie, it was ok. Pretty much more of the same. It's major failure was being release a week before The Dark Knight.

The third one, I don't remember much from. I recall it being more violent than the other 2 and Hellboy had an ugly face and it flopped.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man. Yea, it looks like a fan film. No big deal. Just tell your story. Thought Hellboy looked the best in this. Crooked Man was kinda neat. The rest was . . . . boring. Good call not to put this into theaters because it drags. Prolly won't hear about another live adaption for a while.

Yep, I agree.

I think Mignola is a brilliant writer for comic medium, but not in movie medium. He needs to hire a professional movie screenplay writer, just to make the pace more dynamic.
The book was excellent, all the eerie silence and all the quiet weird moments are gold. But to transform it into a movie, needs special skill.
It's a very different medium.

I loved this movie. The CGI looked like something from the 90s but it's at least used sparingly. I would love to see a sequel but that clearly won't ever be happening, sadly.

It's getting a pretty poor reception. I think the overwhelming majority of people that's watched it, immediately dismiss it because it's not a blockbuster with a bloated buget for production and CGI.

I'm guessing this will very likely be a one-off. And that's fine. I don't usually want a sequel to good movies. But I'd make an exception in this case.

I've seen some good reviews. I feel most negative are a bunch of normies who only have seen Del Toro's Hellboy and think that's the accurate source material. Smh I do hope we get another film based on the short stories like The Wolves of Saint August, The Corpse, I actually also think The Troll Witch would be good but that story is very short, and there isn't a lot of action apart from the flashbacks.

yeah most reviews are good

I liked this. It feels like what the first Hellboy movie should have been...a rough around the edges but loving adaptation of what was once a very niche character. All things considered it's amazing how much of a life HB has had on screen. I enjoy all of the iterations.

the only problem with the movie is that the tunnel part is too long and kinda boring

they had to stretch the story to fit a movie which becomes a problem but then they cut parts of of the comic .... ending of the movie kinda hurts it

I had a fairly optimistic mindset going into this after the final trailer, but then I got hit straight in the face with that horrendous CGI Spider...

Some of the changes aren't in the comic and felt it wasn'tnecessary but i get why they did it. The mining tunnel was before they got to the church with Hellboy, and Tom, and Cora. This was where Cora actually dies because the mine was home to ancient witches that wanted to take her. reverend Watts doesn't die in the comics as he does in this, Also no spider was in the comic.

No one is taking any of the two as accurate. If they say the Acolyte is a great show then you know it's BS.
Unfortunately, again, many people still look at these 2 sites before deciding to watch movies.

I agree. The low budget shows here.
However, Godzilla Minus One has lower budget (5 million USD lower) but the CGI looked miles better.. and they have much more CGI than Hellboy.

But for me, it was not the CGI. I can take that horrendous spider as it's only 2 mins in the movie.
It was the flow, the pace, the storytelling that didn't work here. It worked better in the book, just not in the movie.

Well comparing a film to its book is always going to give you the same result - not as good. That's just a reality.

So it's kinda pointless to even bother doing because you open yourself up to nothing but disappointment.

As to the pacing, that's one area I was rather impressed with.

That's sadly how good movies get ruined is following those sites. One should watch for themselves and decide then. As far as story wise, it's meant to be the comic but even I felt many changes weren't needed or at least a good screenwriter should have helped doing the story with Mignola.

I agree that is mostly what happened.. but some cases went differently, the comic creators praised the movie and wished they did the same thing with the comics.

And that's exactly my point.. what I feel when I watched the movie was, Mignola is trying so hard to make the movie the same as the book. And we all know that is impossible because it's a different medium. He should hire an expert screenwriter to translate the comic language into the movie language.

The pacing, for me, is all over the place, there is no rhythm. As crows said, the tunnel scene got boring, too long etc.
I love Kurosawa's movie even though it's slow-paced, but there is rhythm there, the song played nicely in my head. I don't mind all the talk and slow pace in movies as long as it's managed well.

I completely agree.
That's why I don't really follow those rating sites. However, most people still does.

Yep, exactly what I said on my previous post.
He is a brilliant comic writer, but not a good screenwriter, yet.
