My vote for Bilbo goes to Martin Freeman from The Office (UK) and Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.

Best news this is going to be f'n incredible just having PJ involved it will be just like LOTR trilogy, there's no way I can see him standing by and letting them turn out any oul crap!! BRING IT ON!! Oh god the same stomach churning excitement again for two more Xmases in 2010 like a few years back, GREAT!! :D

:lecture :lecture :lecture

Poor PJ better get ready for 3 more sleepless years. Did you guys see him in the LotR Special Features? He'd fall asleep at any given opportunity! :lol It was well worthit though, with the quality of films he makes.

Yea, same was shown on Superman Returns videos, when he was directing King Kong he would fall asleep while talking to people. But if they paid me $10 million, I wouldn't sleep for 10 years.

I was thinking the same thing. I've always like Freeman and if Holm is too old, I would like Freeman

This is a very pleasant suprise. Cant wait till 2010 and 2011. :chew:chew

As long as they don't pick Sam Raimi to direct I'll be happy.

I'm betting it will be him.

PJ and Raimi both have blockbuster series under their belts with the ability to handle large productions while injecting their own personal style in mainstream films, all the while not forgetting their roots in low budget horror. I imagine that they could get along well. If PJ's producing role mirrors George Lucas' in Empire and Jedi, then things could still bear his stamp in a major way.

Finally! I can't wait to see The Hobbit realized on screen by PJ.
Smaug should be amazing to behold.

This is the best news ever!! This will work out fine with PJ producing it as he'll make sure it has that midous touch still. Man what a day!!

It's a funny thing. When LOTR's first came out it renewed my love for movies as well as started my love for collecting with Sideshow with the Sideshow/Weta partnership. Since I read the press release from this morning on The Hobbit I haven't been able to take a smile off my face. I love the fact for the next 3-4 years the excitement will continue to build and once again I will be completely involved and interested in Middle Earth again. Even now I have so much swirling in my imagination on casting, story, special effects, etc. I cannot wait to find out if Alan Lee, Howard Shore, and others who left such a recognizable fingerprint on the LOTR films will also be back.

There's so much to speculate on and the feeling is just awesome!!!

That is exactly how I feel I ran around jumping up and down. The whole mess of the last few years between PJ and New Line was washed away with joy at this. It is unfortunate that PJ will not be directing but I am sure he will play a heavy hand in these movies and as a producer he will be able to control quite a bit of what direction it goes etc.

How much do you think the license for merchandise for this film is going to cost. :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

This makes Jackson the most powerful man in the film business on the creative side. Hollywood studios give up power last of everything they hoard - even money. Jackson and Walsh as Exec Producers mean they are the boss. They answer to nobody else. They make the decisions. They call the shots. Hires. Running time. Everything.

This is big. But bigger for Jackson than anyone else. In fact, it can be as big as Jackson wants it to be. Only time will tell just how involved he will be.

This is good news indeed! And almost six years to the day after The Fellowship hit the theaters.

So they want to start production as soon as possible. Before they start casting in 2009, won't they need a screenplay? It's going to be months before the strike is over. If it extends into June as some are speculating, they aren't going to have a script in time to get through preproduction properly.

And I wonder what they will call the second film. It's going to be hard to come up with something that pleases everybody, since it will be the first film with a non-book title. (Unless they call it The Appendices, lol.)
