since SS has indicated it will most likely be two hobbits per maquette (or along those lines, anyways) - if these 2 pieces (Frodo/Sam & Merri/Pippen) are small enough, would you guys want the bases to connect to form the four of them together or two separate pieces as is?

Just curious on ideas.

First off, all four characters would have to be in their Shire, Elessar's coronation, or Grey Havens attire for this to work and from the sound of things, at least in regard to their Shire costuming, that isn't going to happen.
Secondly, from what we've seen so far the bases are circular and I'm not sure how SS could pull this off while still making it look like a single circular base. Besides, what happens if [for some reason] someone doesn't purchase all four Hobbits?

Does not compute... System malfunction...

I want to see the hobbits sooner rather than later. And I want all four, no matter how they appear. But I fully believe SS will give us action poses. This line is going to be so much fun.

Oh I agree, I just don't see SS producing these characters with connecting bases....as for action poses, I'm not so sure about that, at least where Frodo is concerned.

I was thinking Sting drawn, ala Weathertop. Maybe?

That definitely works for me....I just keep going back to SS's initial remarks where these will [for the most part] be based on the 'essence' of the character as opposed to being scene specific....and to me, a sword-yielding Frodo just doesn't seem an appropriate way of capturing his essence.

Very true sir, well said and a good reminder. I like the essence we have seen in each release and preview thus far. I only hope the wait for the Hobbitses is not too long. Maybe they are planning to coincide their releases with the new films.

Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with what SS has done so far, not just in the likeness dept. but also in the way they have attempted to capture each characters essence. That said, SS has also steered clear of portraying their characters in the same manner Weta portrayed them, so it wouldn't shock me if a SS version of Frodo differs significantly from that which has been done before.

Same here. Though as long as SS nails the likenesses, I don't care how long we have to wait.

Yeah, they did say that but I could also seem them also showing the fighting spirit of the hobbits.

"You have a stout heart." :D

This is exactly how I want to see Sam represented. :lecture

Indeed! Would love to see Sam that way. Had the Sam and Bill piece which is AMAZING but would like to see Sam in statue form as he's grown more willing to fight a bit.

Yep, me too.:clap

(Eaglemoss figure)

Even at this size he looks great :clap...you can imagine how good he would look at 1/6 size.:yess:

But I don't think we will get him, as I think it will be a Frodo & Sam Maquette.

Shame, would have been fantastic IMHO.:(

Question : The Gollum Premium Format is, in a strange way, “two for the price of one,” and I was wondering if you might be considering offering other smaller characters, such as hobbits, with multiple characters on a single base. This would be a great way to tackle Merry and Pippin! (and maybe even Sam and Frodo?)

Answer : Gollum is rather unique, since the character itself is two-in-one. Merry and Pippin, and Sam and Frodo, require a fair bit more consideration in the execution of their costuming and dressing. IF a two-fer offering could be designed well, and executed well, sure, why not! And multiple characters on a single base? Indeed, outside of PF format, it’s almost as though you’re reading our minds! But two PF’s on one base would not significantly reduce the costs associated with producing the figures, so would make for a rather expensive set.

Bill, certainly SS has intimated that we will see multiple characters on one base, but they did not say those multiple characters are necessarily going to include Hobbits, or be comprised of Hobbits exclusively. Horse and rider maquettes would be multilpe characters....as would a maquette of Sam facing off against Shelob. :lecture

However, that is not stopping them from offering the SW droids as a pair in premium format, I think.

But concerning the maquettes, I fully expect pairs of Hobbits as we have been discussing for so long, but would also welcome individual statues of each to more easily capture the "essence" of each character in question.

Certainly a possibility, though based on SS's response, clearly nothing is written in stone. Personally, I'd take a 1/6 scale Sam vs Shelob maquette over a Sam and Frodo maquette any day of the week.

I agree that Sam vs Shelob would be cool as hell, but it would definitely throw a wrench in how I envisioned displaying the Fellowship. For now I would prefer two Hobbits to a base if that's the only way to ensure that we get them in this line. As far as I'm concerned, once they get the entire Fellowship completed, SS can do whatever they want: Sam vs Shelob, Frodo vs Treebeard, Pippin riding a Fell Beast etc...:lol

Yeah, I think alot of people would prefer solo [or perhaps two-fer] Hobbit maquettes first, if for no other reason than the continuity of the line, before SS branches out somewhat.

When I think of the essence of Merry and Pippin I envision them kicking back and enjoying their pipe-weed. I don't see SS making such a maquette though...

I don't pretend to know which direction SS will take where Merry and Pippin maquettes are concerned, but I can't think of a better way for SS to portray their essence than to highlight their friendship and portray them as the fun loving hobbits they are....esp. if the two are part of one maquette.
