My first thoughts were HOLY CRAP. JVC's 'fake' 4K is more on my radar since the price is much more reasonable. Of course, it's also not true 4k.

There will be much debate over whether you can actually see the difference - of course, this is the same argument we've heard since the first progressive scan dvd player came out. Regardless, it will have a huge effect on home 3D, giving us enough resolution to actually make the technology work great, maybe even better than it is in theaters right now.

Breaks in technology are always poo pooed at first because people only think of it in terms of current use. Yea, 4k isn't going to mean a whole lot for a 47" screen. But it opens up doors for things we haven't been able to do before, and some we haven't even thought of yet

I'm gonna wait it out on 4K for a few years until it's refined and there's content. I usually don't go for the first generation because of all the bugs and stuff. My receiver which I use as a pre, is already 4k compatible so I'll just have to change the projector. Won't be too hard to beat the 3D in theaters as I think a good home setup already beats it (well for most theaters). I can't stand 3D at the theater but love it at home.

Question.

I just got a Sony HX855 (850 in the US) which has a glass front so i can't watch movies at night with the lights on without seeing my reflection. But it's too dark with the lights off which makes the clouding on the TV worse (going to the Sony store tomorrow to hopefully get it replaced. There's a lot of clouding). So i was gonna put up a lamp somewhere in the room with a dimmer-switch so i can watch movies in some light but not have any reflection and such. But where would be best to put it. Next to the TV?

I took a pic of my room so you can see where everything is. In the top left corner, the grey dot, there used to hang a lamp there. I was thinking about putting a spot lamp there?

Damn bro, that is tough. Normally no ambient light is perfect. I have zero light in my room.

Anything to the front of the screen will cause a reflection.

A dimmable light in a corner on the T.V. wall may help.

Me, I would go with a rope light along the base on the T.V. wall. Also dimmable. That will throw enough light and allow for you to decrease or increase.

Small LED or rope light behind the TV.
IKEA has some decent small LED lights you might be able to use.

After having my new Panasonic VT50 in the living room for almost two months, I'm happy to report that it was an excellent purchase. A fantastic 2d set, and a decent 3d as well. In fact, I like the 3d much better than I expected, and informed my wife that when we finally upgrade the projector in the HT, it will have to be 3D.

I also picked up one of the Energy Power Bar Elites, and I'm happy with it. A bar is never going to give you surround, but with the sub it does give a much richer feel to the sound over what you'd get from just the set, and it's not nearly as obtrusive. as even a 3.1 set up.

Good to hear! And 3D in the home is really fun compared to the theater for some reason.

Anyone in this thread try to create a theater room out of a real small space? I've got a space like 14'x18' that I'm wondering if I can do something with.

Mine's only 10'(in the front)x22'....although in the back it does have 14' wide

Cool. Any pics? NVM. just saw your video. Pretty awesome, though a little cramped. I won't need as many seats. Looking at doing just 2 rows of loveseats. But I'm hoping to have my walls lined with IKEA Bestas, so that will take a couple feet off each side so mine too will be cramped.

14' x 18' isn't small - you should have plenty of room for two rows. Assuming it's at least an 8' wall, you should be able to use a 110" screen, and that should let you put the first row about 10-12' back from it. Of course, the det's will take up a lot of room, and it depends on where the door is coming in at...

its been a while since I measured. Its a small space if you look at it.

Right now its an unfinished basement. Might be smaller than 14' wide. I also need to cram a small bathroom in there.

I'll probably go with a smaller screen around 70" and just sit closer, not sure if you guys consider that a "home theater" :lol

Home theater isn't about size - it's about audio and video quality.

Yea, people tend to forget how much space the walls suck up. You tend to lose another 1' in width for the walls, 6" each.

You can get a great 70" set up, and the audio can rock - that's all it takes for a great home theater!

It's actually not that cramped as it may appear on video. The equipment is now out of the room and into a closet. It's actually very cozy and perfect.

Wow my Richard Gray power conditioner wasn't working on one side anymore so I decided to check the fuse. The cover came off but the fuse stayed inside. I tried taking it out with pliers but it was just pushing in further. So I took off the top and this is what I found...
