I would image the Tonner stuff would mostly focused towards the gay market?!

I can assure you that given the choice of having Sam Worthington on my shelf looking like Hot Toys, or Sam Worthington looking like Tonner, Tonner would not be getting my vote.

Well, I think we can be certain that it's not aimed at the straight male market! :)

I think it's funny that you are sure that having a figure that looks like it could have come straight (pardon the pun) out of a gay erotica shoot makes you manly. I'll tell ya a secret...gay guys are men who like men. Not men who like men who look like women.

Edited to add: Here's a link to a thread in here that features a figure targeted towards the gay market. Turn off Google Safesearch and look for some more images to extend your education: https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2899301&postcount=1

My statement was not intended to offend, it's was a statement based on this figure reminding me of Tom from Finland figures and having many gay friends who like pretty or what i personally would deem as 'girly' things.
I'm hardly in a position for straight manly posturing given what this thread is about ie. Dolls...achem I mean action figures. ;)

Please don't presume to pigeon hole me as uneducated based on one comment.

That doesn't quite correspond to what you said earlier - if the Tom of Finland figure and the Tonner figures remind you of each other, I would be very surprised. I took you to be saying that Hot Toys was straight, and Tonner was gay because it's feminised and girly. Or maybe I've got my wires crossed somewhere.

Regardless, I didn't intend to suggest you were at all uneducated, but I do tire of knee-jerk reactions like "that looks girly so it must be gay". Without writing too much of an essay, stereotypes are useful up to a point but then they become harmful. I admit that I am described by much of the "gay" stereotype: I have seen Wicked more times than can be counted on one hand; I have more than one type of moisturiser in my cabinet; and the other day I had what can only be described as a Rod and Todd Flanders-like reaction to a moth (in my defence it was freaky big and those things with their squishy hairy bodies just gross me the _____* out). But then again I can also bench almost double my weight (on a good day); know how to butcher a cow; and have seen, squeezed, nuzzled and motor-boated more ****s than any of my straight friends (that last one really bugs them).

My point is that "girly" shouldn't equal gay, especially not when "accurate representation of partially dressed male" isn't immediately assumed to be aimed at the gay market.

I'd advice people not to make the mistake of saying somethings "gay" on this fourm ..i did before and someone bite my head off over it, but surely they know what we mean when we say "gay" and that we mean no harm ..i'd imagine very few actually mean to offend when saying it and that includes Eamon:)

I thought it was a reasonable statement based on my personal experience. I don't believe that suggesting something could be designed for a certain demographic should translate into any form of boggitry like you are suggesting.
I appreciate where you are coming from aussieinnyc but I feel you are barking up three wrong here. :)

The problem is it's always said to denigrate something. "That looks gay" is used as an insult, and unfortunately that does cause harm. It implies that gay = wrong. It's a bit similar to calling something, or someone, "spastic". I agree that political correctness goes too far sometimes, but I think there are times it's needed, and "that's gay" being synonymous with "that's crap, that's not masculine, that's dumb" is something that should go. I hate sounding like a militant homosexual that's had a fun-ectomy and I'm actually not offended - I'm more trying to provide you with a point of view that you might not be aware of. If you are aware of it and choose to still use "thats gay" as an insult, well then I might just have to give my lesbian friends your details and have them pay you a visit. Trust me, it won't end up the way you've seen in those movies you keep in a hidden folder ;-)

No worries, I won't belabour my point any further. It sounded in your initial post that you thought Tonner was substandard and feminine and thus directed at gay people. I wanted to point out that feminine = gay was a very narrow view. We've both made our points, I'll let people get back to discussing their toy.

My wife said my T2 T1000 in police uniform was the gayest thing she has seen in ages. I guess it... was.. standing next to skirted Perseus and nearly naked Leonidas. So there was a Village People thing going on. Can't look at it the same way anymore.

I want to put together :1-1: when I have done the medusa head. The past and the present of a great movie.

Has anybody tried using the Perseus body for Leonidas?

Don't think it'll work, because Perseus torso is too plain (like a normal TrueType body) compared to the details in the arms and the legs. Also, the gap between the torso and the arms is quite ugly IMO. The Perseus body will look phenomenal for clothed figures tho'.
